Grabbing Element in Twos from a List in Thymeleaf - thymeleaf

i have a list that contains entity classes with two variables (id and categoryname). My entity looks like this:
String categoryName;
int categoryID;
//getters and setters
My controller class returns a List of all categories using
service.findAll();
Normally an iteration over this kind of list is one element at a time. My question is I want to be able to get two elements at a tome from the list to enable me populate the UI, which has two columns. Or in more simpler terms, how can I iterate over two elements at once in a List?
<div class="flex items-center justify-between space-x-3">
<div>
<input type="checkbox" name="category" th:value="${category.id}"> <label th:text="${category.categoryName}">
</div>
<div>
<input type="checkbox" name="category" th:value="${category.id}"> <label th:text="${category.categoryName}">
</div>
</div>

This should probably work:
<th:block th:each="i: ${#numbers.sequence(0, list.size()-1, 2)}">
//Edit: I added -1 to list.size()
<div class="flex items-center justify-between space-x-3">
<div>
<input type="checkbox" name="category" th:value="${list[i].id}">
<label th:text="${list[i].categoryName}">
</div>
<div>
<input type="checkbox" name="category" th:value="${list[i+1].id}">
<label th:text="${list[i+1].categoryName}">
</div>
</div>
</th:block>
You will have to do something if the size of the list is not a multiple of 2, unless you know for sure this will always be the case.
PS: I wonder if maybe it is better to use a normal iteration and use CSS to choose how many columns you show depending on screen width for example.

How to insert markup into fragment using Thymeleaf

I want to declare some layout to use as template for all form fields.
So given roughly this fragment
<div th:fragment="control(input)" class="form-group">
<label class="col-sm-3 control-label">Edition description</label>
<div class="col-sm-9">
<input th:replace="${input}">
</div>
</div>
And this fragment "invocation"
<div th:replace=":: control(~{:: input})">
<!--Want to reference this one, not all inputs-->
<input th:field="*{editionDescription}" type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="перераб., дополн.">
</div>
It would produce the following result:
<div class="form-group">
<label class="col-sm-3 control-label">Edition description</label>
<div class="col-sm-9">
<input th:field="*{editionDescription}" type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="перераб., дополн.">
</div>
</div>
The problem is that :: input input selector is applied to all <input> tags in currently processed template. How do I reference only enclosed one?
Additionally, can you give an advice on how to approach this in general. I want to mimic Grails Fields plugin as much as possible. Do you think I'd better declare my own dialect?
You should be defining classes (or identifiers) to your input elements (the ones you want to replace) and then you can use the appropriate selector syntax just to select the desired input. You can find selector syntax details in here
Sample code might look like this:
<div th:fragment="control(input)" class="form-group">
<label class="col-sm-3 control-label">Edition description</label>
<div class="col-sm-9">
<input th:replace="${input}">
</div>
</div>
Then your selector should be like:
<div th:replace=":: control(~{:: input.description})">
<!--Want to reference this one, not all inputs-->
<input th:field="*{editionDescription}" type="text" class="form-control description" placeholder="перераб., дополн.">
</div>
Please note the use of :: input.description as a selector with class identifier

Jquery Mobile automatically adds &nbsp

i've got this code using Jquery Mobile :
<div role="main" class="ui-content">
<form action="/" method="post">
<fieldset data-role="controlgroup">
<input type="checkbox" name="checkbox-1a" id="checkbox-1a" checked="">
<label for="checkbox-1a">Cheetos</label>
<input type="checkbox" name="checkbox-2a" id="checkbox-2a">
<label for="checkbox-2a">Doritos</label>
<input type="checkbox" name="checkbox-3a" id="checkbox-3a">
<label for="checkbox-3a">Fritos</label>
<input type="checkbox" name="checkbox-4a" id="checkbox-4a">
<label for="checkbox-4a">Sun Chips</label>
</fieldset>
</form>
</div>
The problem is that when i load the page the codes looks like this :
<div class="ui-controlgroup-controls ">
<div class="ui-checkbox">
I've skipped the whole code, the problem is in the
that should not be there.
Any idea about how to fix it?
This problem comes when copying and pasting the source code from their website.
In fact in this way you copy also invisible blank spaces which are converted as by the browser and make the last block go down.
To solve the issue simply remove all the spaces between the tags and all will be displayed correctly.
There are many ways you can remove the automatic default padding.
First
<div style="padding: 0;">...</div>
Second: Define an id for the div tag and set padding to 0 in css
<div id="myID">
#myID{ padding:0; }

Is there a way to place a prepended a select menu beside a standard text input?

I am getting started with JQueryMobile and love it. I am wondering if there is a way to place a prepended a select menu beside a standard text input.
For example, if the text input were to be for a name, then the prepended select would contain Mr, Mrs, etc.
Edit 1:
I've looked at the control group docs and for a case like buttons it works e.g.
<div data-role="controlgroup" data-type="horizontal">
Icon only
Icon only
</div>
However if I use an input like
<div data-role="controlgroup" data-type="horizontal">
Icon only
<input type = "text" name = "some_input" id = "some_input">
</div>
It gives a weird result with the input overlapping the button.
Edit 2:
I've looked at grids but cannot see a way to have a div span 2 grids. e.g.
<div class="ui-grid-b">
<div class="ui-block-a">Block A</div>
<div class="ui-block-b ui-block-c">Block C</div>
</div>
I've tried the above, but it doesn't work as desired, for example
<div class="ui-grid-c">
<div class="ui-block-a">
<label for = "full_name">
Name
<select id = "honorific" data-mini="true" data-inline="true">
<option value = "mr">Mr</option>
<option value = "mrs">Mrs</option>
<option value = "miss">Miss</option>
</select>
</label>
</div>
<div class="ui-block-b ui-block-c ui-block-d">
<input type="tel" data-clear-btn="true" id = "full_name" name = "full_name">
</div>
</div>
simply yeilds the select box below the full name label, and the input only spans what appears to be one cell/block - rather than the 3 cells/blocks of the grid.
From what I've seen control group works best with buttons, check boxes, etc. Not with the combination you're expecting to do. So here are two solutions for you.
Without using grids
You'll just have to make the two elements as an inline-block, like this :
.ui-select, .ui-input-text {
display:inline-block
}
Demo with No grids, No control group.
Using grids
The way you're using grids is wrong. You'll have to use two-column grid, which will have these two two classes alone: ui-block-a & ui-block-b, like this :
<div class="ui-grid-b">
<div class="ui-block-a">Block A</div>
<div class="ui-block-b">Block B</div>
</div>
This will scale your markup accordingly. Here's how the HTML looks like :
<div class="ui-grid-a">
<div class="ui-block-a" style="width:100px">
<select name="select-choice-min" id="select-choice-min" data-mini="true">
<option>Mr.</option>
<option>Mrs.</option>
<option>Ms.</option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="ui-block-b">
<input type="text" name="name" id="name" value="" placeholder="Enter Name" />
</div>
</div>

How to handle Twitter Bootstrap fields with Thymeleaf Spring and less code

I need some advice how is a recommended way to handle Twitter Bootstrap fields with Thymeleaf. I know that recommendations are not so easy, so I wrote my thoughts about it and hope you can comment it. At the end there a some concrete questions.
First I tried a fragment which shows what is needed to generate
<div th:fragment="textfield">
<div class="control-group"
th:classappend="${#fields.hasErrors('__${fId}__')}? 'error'">
<label class="control-label" th:for="${fId}"
th:text="#{model.__*{class.simpleName}__.__${fId}__}+':'">
FirstName
</label>
<div class="controls">
<input type="text" th:class="${inputclass}" th:field="*{__${fId}__}" th:disabled="${disabled}"/>
<span class="help-inline" th:if="${#fields.hasErrors('__${fId}__')}"
th:errors="*{__${fId}__}"></span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
which can be used with
<div class="control-group replace" th:include="templates::textfield" th:with="fId='userId'" th:remove="tag">
<label class="control-label replace">Benutzer-Id</label>
<div class="controls replace">
<input type="text" value=""/>
</div>
</div>
or in short
<div class="control-group replace" th:include="templates::textfield" th:with="fId='userId'" th:remove="tag"/>
It's not very flexible about the input, so you need for a checkbox an own fragment.
Next I choose the layout-approach:
<div layout:fragment="bsfield">
<div class="control-group" th:classappend="${#fields.hasErrors('__${fId}__')}? 'error'">
<label class="control-label" th:for="${fId}"
th:text="#{model.__*{class.simpleName}__.__${fId}__}+':'">
FirstName </label>
<div class="controls">
<span layout:fragment="bsinput" th:remove="tag">
<input type="text" class="replace" th:field="*{__${fId}__}" th:disabled="${disabled}"/>
</span>
<span class="help-inline" th:if="${#fields.hasErrors('__${fId}__')}"
th:errors="*{__${fId}__}"></span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Which is very flexible because I can define my input directly.
I can use it shortly with
<div layout:include="templates::bsfield" th:with="fId='firstName'" th:remove="tag">
<div layout:fragment="bsinput">
<input type="text" th:field="*{__${fId}__}" th:disabled="${disabled}"/>
</div>
</div>
or more prototype style
<div class="control-group" layout:include="templates::bsfield" th:with="fId='lastName'" th:remove="tag">
<label class="control-label" th:remove="all">Last Name</label>
<div class="controls" th:remove="tag">
<div layout:fragment="bsinput">
<input type="text" th:field="*{__${fId}__}" th:disabled="${disabled}"/>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Both variants has still a lot of boilerplate. So I think about the following solution inspired by Playframework helper.
<input type="text" th:bsfield="firstName" th:disabled="${disabled}"/>
and writing a Processor which creates
<div class="control-group"
th:classappend="${#fields.hasErrors('${fId}')}? 'error'">
<label class="control-label" th:for="${fId}"
th:text="#{model.__*{class.simpleName}__.${fId}}+':'">
FirstName </label>
<div class="controls">
<input type="text" th:class="${inputclass}" th:field="*{${fId}}" th:disabled="${disabled}"/>
<span class="help-inline" th:if="${#fields.hasErrors('${fId}')}"
th:errors="*{${fId}}"></span>
</div>
</div>
and replace ${fId} with the value of bsfield in this example "firstname". After that Thymeleaf should recompute it (setRecomputeProcessorsImmediately (true);) For the prototype I think it's necessary to write a JS-Solution.
I'm unsure if this is really clever or a misuse of Processors. Furthermore I'm unsure how much time a beginner need to write such a processor. Are 4 hours realistic or more a few days?
Would appreciate if someone can give me a hint.
In the meantime I did it. As a beginner you must calculate 4-8 hours, without JUnit tests (it looks difficult to test processors) and DTD and editor-support. The most problems I had was that it's difficult to reuse an existing node after changing attributes. Here it's better to clone it.
Next time I think I can do it in 1 or 2 hours.
The experience is very good, you have clean and short code. With the JS-File you don't lose the prototyping experience.

How can I add a text box beside the label for checkbox using jquery mobile?

How can I add a text box beside the label for checkbox using jquery mobile? It should be in one line (checkbox --> label (for checkbox) --> textbox)
If you want to add a label in the same line as its referencing element, like for example:
My legend [ ] Checkbox label
you may want to try using field containers, with data-role="fieldcontain".
For example:
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<fieldset data-role="controlgroup">
<legend>Agree to the terms:</legend>
<input type="checkbox" name="checkbox-2" id="checkbox-2" class="custom" />
<label for="checkbox-2">I agree</label>
</fieldset>
</div>
The code above will give you:
Agree to the terms: [] I agree
Check the online doc for more information: http://jquerymobile.com/demos/1.1.1/docs/forms/checkboxes/
Now, if you want to several elements on one line (= several elements in different columns), I mean more than just a label and its element, you may wanna check the jQuery Mobile's Layout grids: http://jquerymobile.com/demos/1.1.1/docs/content/content-grids.html
Considering your example case, I think you may want to try to use a combination of the 2 methods above. So, you may try something like this:
<div class="ui-grid-a">
<!-- FIRST COLUMN -->
<div class="ui-block-a">
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<fieldset data-role="controlgroup">
<legend>Agree to the terms:</legend>
<input type="checkbox" name="checkbox-2" id="checkbox-2" class="custom" />
<label for="checkbox-2">I agree</label>
</fieldset>
</div>
</div>
<!-- SECOND COLUMN -->
<div class="ui-block-b">
<input type="text"/>
</div>
</div>
Hope this helps.
