I have a problem with getting env properties dynamically in Jenkins Scripted Pipeline. I have a String key in the pipeline. Let's call it key.
The key is obtained by concatenating two strings:
def key = env.BRANCH_NAME + ".HOST";
And then I wanna get another env property by that key:
def remoteHost = env[key];
But it doesn't work for me.
Original problem.
I have three branches in my repository: dev, testing and staging. Also I have three global properties: dev.HOST, testing.HOST, staging.HOST. I want to write something like this:
timestamps {
node() {
String remoteHost;
stage('Defining a remote host') {
def key = env.BRANCH_NAME + ".HOST";
remoteHost = env[key];
echo "remote host:" + remoteHost;
}
}
But as I said env[key] not working there. And I get the next stack trace:

How could I get property right? Or how could I solve this problem?
Jenkins version: 2.249.2
Although this would work on plain Groovy, using the following syntax env[key] is not working here because pipeline is running inside a sandbox, where this type of access is not allowed.
You have two options there:
1 - Using Groovy gstrings and change env[key]to env."${key}" completely avoiding the sandbox error.
2 - If you still prefer this way of access, whitelisting the method on Jenkins management section called 'In-process Script Approval'. After doing that and running pipeline again, you should not see the stacktrace anymore.
Related
Upfront, yes I have searched a lot and seen a lot, including on StackOverflow, but nothing has helped so far. I was attempting to define a declarative pipeline in a shared library, but cannot get past the basic definition.
So I wrote the simple vars/pipi.groovy inside my (existing) shared library
def call(config) {
pipeline {
stages {
stage('Prepare') {
steps { echo "preparing ${config.item}" }
}
stage('Build') {
steps { echo "building ${config.item}" }
}
}
}
}
I then created a new pipeline job, containing just the following script
#Library('my-jenkins-library#embeddedpipeline') _
pipi [:]
I understand that this might be because of some scripted vs declarative pipeline, but I cannot see why it should not work. I have no node declaration or anything, and the pipeline configuration seems to be valid enough. I encountered the error first, because I had other elements in there, and for some reason it accepts having a parameters block, but not say an agent, but keeping the example short still does not work for me.
BTW, the library is references from the enclosing folder,
Any suggestions are appreciated

this works for me:
In the jenkinsfile:
#Library('jenkinssharedlibrary#feature/your-branch-name') _
templateFromJenkinsLibrary([
parameter1:"${params.parameterDefinedInJenkinsJob}",
parameter2:'arbitraryValue',
agent: 'testagentlabel'

then in the jenkins library vars/templateFromJenkinsLibrary.groovy:
import com.ownlibraryDefinedInSrc.someFunction
def call(Map<String, String> passedConfigurationMap) {
pipeline {
agent {
label passedConfigurationMap.agent
}
environment {
PROJECT_VERSION = "${passedConfigurationMap.projectVersion}"
}
tools {
//use this to control the build configurations like maven and jdk used under SCV
jdk passedConfigurationMap.javaVersionToUse
}
stages {
stage('Validate Parameters') {
steps {
script {
echo "Validate"
}
}
}
}
ps: no IDE at hand so I hope I have syntax errors.
Objective:
we have a file in our application folder named as JenkinsFile. From that File, we are trying to call a groovy script file which contains the pipeline script of Jenkins build and deploy. The groovy script file is in seperate GITLAB repository.
Jenkins file code:
#!groovy
#Library("usingALibrary") _
def COMMON_REPO = 'GITLAB_URL'
def REDIRECTED_SCRIPT = 'buildJenkinsPipelineScript.groovy'
def CREDENTIALS_ID = 'credentials'
def jenkinsFile
jenkinsFile = fileLoader.fromGit(REDIRECTED_SCRIPT, COMMON_REPO, 'master', CREDENTIALS_ID, 'maven')
try{
jenkinsFile.start()
}
catch(NullPointerException e)
{
echo "Script threw a NullPointerException but it will be omitted."
}
Problem:
The error that we get while building in jenkins is:
First time build. Skipping changelog.

Can anyone please suggest the solution of this error.
You are missing File Loader Plugin
The plugin adds a global fileLoader DSL variable, which provides methods for loading Pipeline objects from remote sources.
I try to migrate my classic jenkins jobs to pipeline. Actually I have groovy script which read input json. I would like to know how to run groovy script in stage ? I try this but not working :
pipeline {
agent any
stages {
stage('SetEnv') {
steps {
environment {
JSON_BASE_PATH="/json_repo/test"
}
echo 'SetEnv..'
script {
// Get latest JSON FILE FROM /tmp/*.json
def file = new File(JSON_BASE_PATH).listFiles()?.sort { it.lastModified() }?.find{it=~/.json$/}
println ("\nJson file is " + file )
}
}
}
}
You will need to call groovy from a windows batch or shell block with the script file as argument.
You may create a temporary script using the writeFile pipeline method.
Do you mean , run external groovy file in jenkins pipeline or execute groovy sentences in jenkins pipeline?
Both could be fine. Actually I am getting this error message even if "new java.io.File java.lang.String
" signature has been approved :
Scripts not permitted to use method java.io.File listFiles. Administrators can decide whether to approve or reject this signature.

I'm trying to write a small job DSL, but I'm struggling with getting java.lang.StackOverflowError errors when accessing a class property.
Therefore not even a complex script is necessary. See the following script
class Komponente {
String name
Komponente(name) {
this.name = name
}
String getName() {
return this.name
}
String toString() {
return 'Klasse: Komponente (name: [' + this.name +'])'
}
}
Komponente komponente = new Komponente('Testkomponente')
println 'Erstellte Komponente: ' + komponente.getName()
When running it on the Groovy web console it works fine, but when running it in my Jenkins I get:

How can I access a class property in a Groovy script running on Jenkins, without getting StackOverflowError exception?
My system:
Jenkins-version is 2.73.3
JobDSL Plugin 1.68
Stapler Groovy module org.kohsuke.stapler:stapler-groovy:1.250
Apache Groovy org.codehaus.groovy:groovy-all:2.4.11
I already did some searching for this error message, but all Jenkins-Issues I found were fixed and closed at least in 2.7.1 so should be included in my jenkins version.
Remove getName() method from your class. When you specify class field like String name you get methods String getName() and void setName(String name) out of the box.
Keep in mind that Jenkins Groovy script execution environment is a little bit different than the plain Groovy (e.g. in Groovy console) - Jenkins uses groovy-cps execution environment.
In your case following class org.kohsuke.groovy.sandbox.impl.Checker caused errors - according to your stack trace calling Komponente.getName() triggered Komponente.getProperty() method through the following execution chain:
at Komponente.getProperty(script)
at org.codehaus.groovy.runtime.InvokerHelper.getProperty(InvokerHelper.java:174)

And Komponente.getProperty() triggered Komponente.getName() and you run into infinite loop that caused StackOverflowError.
Similar problem happened when I copied your class to my test pipeline script, here is the stack trace I got:

Finished: FAILURE
It's not that straightforward as yours, but it is caused by the same thing. When I removed String getName() method it worked as expected. It should work for you as well. Hope it helps.
For now with this script hundred of builds was done. After Jenkins update the groovy script is not running anymore. It is not getting even to the first stage. The error which I can see is misleading for me, as the 'Script' is the name of folder in my case. To be sure if everything is fine I regenerated the dir command with the jenkins built-in syntax pipeline generator and I got:
dir('Scripts\\CD\\stage_1') {
// some block
}
For the path Scripts\CD\stage_1
The error is saying following

For my code
#!groovy
node {
String step
currentBuild.result = "SUCCESS"
checkout scm
sh "git rev-parse --short HEAD > .git/commit-id"
commit_id = readFile('.git/commit-id')
try {
stage 'Wait for running build'
dir('Scripts\\CD\\stage_1') {
sh "./waitForRunningBuild"
}
Except updating from 2.6 to 2.66 I also updated all plugins to the latest ones and disabled CLI remote-smth (but it is rather for remote access over the ssh, not to run local commands I guess).
I have no clue, what does this error may mean as the Script name is the folder name, and there is no other Script name used inside.
It occurred that multibranch plugin has troubles with the link inside Jenkinsfile. When I over write the Jenkins file content with the groovy script it started to go further.
The same issue for ci instead od Scripts was reported here - https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-42830
