How Jenkins can copy new file from given folder - jenkins

I'm new to Jenkins. I have given remote path to folder with already builded setups inside - filenames can vary. I need to monitor that folder for new file and copy it to my workspace (and then deploy and execute some auto tests against them).
Question is how to recognize that I have a new file (this will be my trigger to start whole process) and how to store that new file filename in variable - to copy it later?
Is that even possible in Jenkins? Maybe it is a plugin for that already?
Jenkins is working on windows machine.
Thanks in advance.

One possible solution would be to use the filesystem scm plugin and set up source polling to trigger your job.

Of course that doesn't solve the issue of what the new file is. If you are using powershell a good solution is here: Powershell Get-ChildItem most recent file in directory

Obtain the artifact directory path as a relative path for the Release process

We are working on the configuration process for the Continuous Integration for some projects, we are using TFS and now we have a problem with some releases definitions. We want to use the Web Deploy package created in the Build process for the Deployment.
So far the build definition that we have is following:
enter image description here
The path for the creation of the package is the default, so we are able to find it inside the artifact directory. But the problem is when we nee extract the files in the target folder for the website in the server.
The Release definition that we are using is:
enter image description here
In this part in the Download artifact phase the agent doing the release has access to the published files in the build process, so here we know where the .zip package is, and we can have the path using $(System.ArtifactsDirectory), but if we use Deploy IIS App task, as you can see we are connecting to the servers where we are doing the release and $(System.ArtifactsDirectory) give us the local address for the artifacts where the agents are configured, and the variable give the path like C:\agent_work\r1\a, where C is local for the agent, and the .zip file doesn't exist in that address. And we can't build a new path like \Myserver\$(System.ArtifactsDirectory).... , because $(System.ArtifactsDirectory) is an absolute path and as a result the whole path it is : \Myserver\C:\Myfolder....
We need other solution, we have considered in the build process create the package in a different folder, and in this case we always know where is the package, we aren't depending on the agent folders, and in this way we can use as Web Deploy Package path: \Myserver\packagefolder\file.zip, but we would like to use a different solution.
Is there any way to have the artifact folder with a relative path or something like this????
You could use Windows Machine File Copy task to copy the package file from agent to the servers where you are doing the release.
Use this task to copy application files and other artifacts such as
PowerShell scripts and PowerShell-DSC modules that are required to
install the application on Windows Machines. It uses RoboCopy, the
command-line utility built for fast copying of data.
You could use a temporary folder handling the package file on the agent. Such as Build.StagingDirectory. Build variables
Add a packagelocation such as /p:PackageLocation="$(Build.StagingDirectory)\\ in your MSbuild Arguments. Then copy the files from StagingDirectory to your local folder in remote server by using Windows Machine File Copy task.

Can JENKINS create build by excluding particular files?

I am actually trying to ignore a particular file to be included in the build. Actually it is a thumb.db file which is automatically created whenever images are encountered in a folder. My solution contains the image folder. So basically, whenever the build is triggered from JENKINS, it will create the thumb.db file.
Is there any way, I can ignore the Thumb.db file from getting created via JENKINS?
I can switch off the thumb.db file from creation by switching it off from my windows, but I have to do it every time a build is created from JENKINS. So I want to ignore the thumb.db file from creation.
Below is the Job creation flow in my JENKINS from my current project:
SCM
I have used the Team Foundation Server Plugin and have mentioned my SERVER URL and PROJECT PATH
POST BUILD steps simply create the build to the staging location(folder Location)
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
AFAIK, on windows you can turn it off or on for the whole system and not for particular folders.
So you have to choose. On or off.
If you still want to keep it on, you'l have to handle this in your Jenkins build scripts. Remove any thumbs.db files after build is done.
If your output is an archive, make sure to exclude thumbs.db from it. All archives support an exclude flag.
I hope this helps.

How to pass job-specific files to Jenkins as part of job configuration?

I have a jenkins job that pulls source code from GitHub public repo. I need to pass some files such as instance-specific configuration files containing secrets to the job and merge with source code prior to running build because these files are obviously inappropriate to be put in public SCM. The Jenkins instance is a multi-tenanted shared service.
The config files don't change often so I don't want to implement using file parameter which forces user manually input the file on every run. Another reason file parameter doesn't work is some builds are triggered automatically by SCM.
I don't want to use Config File Provider Plugin either, because the plugin requires jenkins admin access but I want users with job-level privileges manage the files themselves.
Ideally the uploaded files are saved alongside with job config.xml instead of in workspace, because I would like to delete workspace after each build. I can write scripts to copy the files from job config folder to workspace.
Are there any solutions available? Thanks.
If the "special" files are being placed in a folder with say some access privileges to it, couldn't you either run a Pre-SCM-Buildstep to move the files with shell commands, or introduce a regular build step (i.e. after the SCM stuff and before the other build steps) that would also use shell commands to move files?

Build delphi project in jenkins

Im trying to setup jenkins in my company and Ive got some problems.
Im using this commands to build the project:
SET MSBuild="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\MSBuild.exe"
SET BUILDS=C:\Program Files (x86)\Jenkins\jobs\xxx\builds\
SET OUTPUT_PATH="%BUILDS%%BUILD_NUMBER%"
SET RSVARS="C:\Program Files (x86)\Embarcadero\RAD Studio\10.0\bin\rsvars.bat"
CALL %RSVARS%
SET PATH=%PATH%;D:\komponenty\DXE3\ADSI
%MSBuild% xxx.dproj /t:Build /p:Config=Debug;Platform=Win32;DCC_ExeOutput=%OUTPUT_PATH% /maxcpucount:4
It works fine when i type this in cmd but. I gave administrive privileges to jenkins service. When I try to build project with jenkins i receive error like this:
F1026: File not found: 'ADSI.dcu
this is a component for Delphi and i have this component on second partition. Jenkins has access for many components on this partition but not for this one.
The difference between the two will be your current directory.
Jenkins will start you off in a specific working folder for the job (possibly C:\Users\<User-ID>\.jenkins\jobs\<Job-Name>\workspace).
Add the following to your Jenkins commands to see where you're doing the build from:
echo Current Folder: %cd%
A simple "solution" would be to just add a command in Jenkins to change directory to the same folder you're in when you test from the command-line.
However, I suggest you rather do the following:
Ensure Jenkins gets the latest source from your source repository into its working folder. (There are various plugins depending on what particular tool you use.)
Ensure you cd (change directory) to the correct folder within the workspace folder.

Copy generated folder from one job to another in Hudson/Jenkins

I have two jobs in my Hudson configuration. Let's call them A and B.
Job A was created specifically to generate a folder application_home. This folder is a ready-to-be-used-in-installations-application-home-folder.
Job B is the "pack-all-together-for-installation-job". It needs to copy the application_home generated by job A to generate the installer. My problem is that after some investigation, I was not able to do this in a simple way.
I could use shell script, but then I would need to know job A path plus where its workspace is to get application_ home folder.
Is there a simpler way to do this?
EDIT
I know Copy Artifact Plugin. The problem is that it only copies artifacts. I need to copy the folder application_ home as it is, because it's already in the structure to be used in the installer. If there's a way to use this plugin to copy only the folder, I haven't found it.
EDIT 2. Answer:
Ok, you can do it using Copy Artifact Plugin. You need to
Set its configuration to "copy from WORKSPACE of latest completed build".
Set Artifacts to copy option the folder like this: target/application_home/**
Set Target directory to where you want to somethine like: installation_bundle_folder/application_home.
and it's done :)
You could try the Copy Artifact Plugin.
Then you could add a build step to "pack-all-together-for-installation-job" that would copy application_home to the packaging directory. There is an option to only include the latest stable build of Project A.
Another alternative is to have a post-build step for a successful Project A build that scripts the copy of the application_home over to where Project B will use it. You can use the WORKSPACE environment variable to get the absolute location. (See here for a list of environmental variables).
