How to specify the catalina container in the cmd mvn cargo:stop :
Because whene i use it, the plugin look for the container in the default folder of Tomcat :
AppData\Local\Temp\cargo\installs\apache-tomcat-8.0.20.zip

From your description I think you need to set container home and possibly also configuration home.
Container home should reference to installation directory of your Tomcat installation. It is set by element <home> in <container> element.
If you use existing configuration then you should also set configuration home. It is set by element <home> in <configuration> element.

The default Container is in the project's target,
otherwise, if we want to use our container , we set <home> properties;
in my case I do this :
<home>${project.basedir}/target/tomcat8x</home>

I'm trying to run ./gradlew build command, which has artifactory_contextUrl property used in build.gradle file.
gradlew.properties is located in C:\Users\XXX.gradle folder, when I build the project in windows Intellij it takes the gradle.properties file in user folder and so gets the contexturl and everything is fine but,
when I try to build the project in docker toolbox it couldnt find it.
Toolbox starts with some location in C folder.
I tried with placing gradle.properties at the same level as build.gradle it works fine in toolbox. Eventually I dont want to keep the gradle.properties at buils.gradle level
What should I do? Does any one has any suggestions?
Well, I guess the docker toolbox (whatever it is, I don't know it) does run with another user account and thus does not find your gradle.properties file in your user directory.
The file is actually called gradle.properties, isn't it? In your question you use gradlew.properties and gradle.properties and only the latter is valid.
To solve your problem you can either make sure the gradle.properties is also in the users home directory that is used in the docker toolbox. To find out which directory this is, you can run Gradle with -d and search for Gradle user home, there it tells you which directory is the one where the gradle.properties is expected.
Alternatively you can use -P artifactory_contextUrl=asdf to set the property from the commandline, or use the system property org.gradle.project.artifactory_contextUrl or environment variable ORG_GRADLE_PROJECT_artifactory_contextUrl to set the project property.
Is there any "adequate" way to change system properties in Jenkins? What is the easiest/fastest way change them? For instance, I need to turn off the useless (in my case) pinging thread.
If you really want a quick and simple way to change a system property, you can use the script console
System.setProperty("hudson.remoting.Launcher.pingIntervalSec", 0)
But that won't survive a restart. To make it permanent, add the setting to the java args. For me (CentOS, Jenkins 2.7.1) that's a line about halfway down /etc/sysconfig/jenkins (for other distributions I believe it's /etc/default/jenkins) where you should add your option to the existing list like this:
JENKINS_JAVA_OPTIONS="-Djava.awt.headless=true -Dhudson.remoting.Launcher.pingIntervalSec=0"
You'll have to restart Jenkins after you make that change (thanks Mark Tickner)
If you run Jenkins on windows as a service without tomcat, you can edit jenkins.xml. Add the property in <service><arguments> before the -jar.
Than restart the service.

To disable slave pinging, you can set hudson.remoting.Launcher.pingIntervalSec to 0.
System properties can be set in the same way as with any other Java program, e.g.:
java -Dhudson.remoting.Launcher.pingIntervalSec=0 -jar jenkins.war
If you use Tomcat on Windows you can edit the File C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.67\conf\catalina.properties and simply add the Line
hudson.DNSMultiCast.disabled=true
at the End of the File. Then safe the File and restart Tomcat.
I have the similar problem: I need to disable DNSMultiCast (set hudson.DNSMultiCast.disabled = false) and I can't understand how to do it
for example, https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Features+controlled+by+system+properties - there is such advice "...pass all of these arguments before the -jar argument..." but I run jenkins under tomcat so I am not sure I can change startup parameters.
I tried to change /etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost/jenkins.xml to

Can someone explain how to change jenkins system properties when tomcat is used.
Maybe it's a bad hack but I set it in the pipeline job that needs the setting.
Like this:

It seems to work - as far as I can tell...
I followed each steps mentioned above but it fails.
So I did change the system time zone using timedatectl set-timezone Europe/London command and then I have restarted jenkins service service jenkins restart it worked.
I was using Rehdat 7.5
Jenkins version 2.168.
Jenkins Installed via yum install jenkins

The jenkins service does not start when ever i run jenkins service start . It says
Starting Jenkins bash: /usr/bin/java: No such file or directory
[FAILED]
I have java installed at /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0_51. The JAVA_HOME variable is also set. Also tried adding this java to /etc/init.d/jenkins file. I need to use the sun jdk, not open jdk.
Tried some of the alternatives from stackoverflow as well but did not work out.
Any suggestions will be of great help.

Thanks Paul. The script inside /etc/sysconfig/jenkins needs to be edited. Else it uses the default java.
JENKINS_JAVA_CMD="path of java installation"
Along with the above script, one can make changes to /etc/init.d/jenkins file if needed to add the path of java installation in your system.
I'd guess that there's a script that has /usr/bin/java hardcoded. When you find the culprit, remove the /usr/bin so that it uses the default. Or you can change it to use the JAVA_HOME path, something like this:
JAVA_EXECUTABLE=$JAVA_HOME/bin/java
$JAVA_EXECUTABLE $JAVA_OPTS etc.. etc..
I am trying to compile some java code on Windows 7 pc, I have installed java JDK and I am trying to use the javac command in cmd but I get output saying that
'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
What do I have to do to enable compiler in cmd or is it possible to do in Windows?
1)Go to properties by right click on icon Computer , then navigate to Advanced System Settings.
2)Click Environment Variables.
3)Click on New , set Variable name as path and Variable path as the path of java jdk installation directory which could be something like this -
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin;
where C:** is the drive where JDK is installed and **Program Files\java is the directory where it resides.
look out for semi-colon(;) at the last.
4)Click ok
5)Restart cmd and run javac , it should work now.

you have to set a new system variable for your JAVA_HOME in windows.

Add the path to bin folder of JDK in your PATH variable. For instructions to set PATH variable follow this tutorial.

I want to change the location of the .grails directory. I have read about using working directories, but this is not what I want. For some reason my .grails directory gets put in the "Administrator" user folder instead of in my user folder. How do I correct this?
The grailsWorkDir property controls the location. You can change the value in the BuildConfig.groovy file.

On Windows 7, the values in the registry for "Shell Folders" AND "User Shell Folders" in the registry path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" affect the user.home and in turn the location of the ".grails" folder.
