I can login to openWRT router admin portal to configure everything. However, if I want to control the openWRT device programmatically, i.e. sending the command through a socket connection between the openWRT device and the server, any module to recommend?
add a user/password who can login to openWRT wifi network.

If you have just one router to manage, you can use ssh reverse tunnel: https://www.howtoforge.com/reverse-ssh-tunneling
You can establish an openvpn or ipsec tunnel as well.
If you want to control a network of devices, then you can look at different management protocols: TR-069 (freecwmp) and SNMP (net-snmp). However, this approach will require additional time to configure and use.
You can use Luci for the local connection.
If you want to create a program in Python or C/C++, I would suggest using libcurl library or module.
Instead of doing it on router, use radius application
(freeradius if looking for opensource), freeradius works on
mysql so you can define authentication details as well as
authorization and data accounting there. Please explain your project
so I can help you more.
If you use radius<->router setup, you you need to manage/monitor only
radius server, and radius server will take care of all the back-end
process. As well as if you go with radius you can go other then
openwrt router (I know fully openwrt supported model is more costly
and hard to find). you can use those also because you are following
industry standards.
And last point if you want to design by your own that is very good,
but I'll suggest first go with coova-chilli/nodogsplash (coovac-chilli
has more options). Understand its working, then design your own
model.

I love using Prometheus for monitoring and alerting. Until now, all my targets (nodes and containers) lived on the same network as the monitoring server.
But now I'm facing a scenario, where we will deploy our application stack (as a bunch of Docker containers) to several client machines in thier networks. Nearly all of the clients networks are behind a firewall or NAT. So scraping becomes quite difficult.
As we're still accountable for our stack, I'd like to have a central montioring server, altering and dashboards.
I was wondering what could be the best architecture if want to implement it with Prometheus, but I couldn't find any convincing approaches. My ideas so far:
Use a Pushgateway on our side and push all data out of the client networks. As the docs state, it's not intended that way: https://prometheus.io/docs/practices/pushing/
Use a federation setup (https://prometheus.io/docs/prometheus/latest/federation/): Place a Prometheus server in every client network behind a reverse proxy (to enable SSL and authentication) and aggregate relevant metricts there. Open/forward just a single port for federation scraping.
Other more experimental setups, such as SSH Tunneling (e.g. here https://miek.nl/2016/february/24/monitoring-with-ssh-and-prometheus/) or VPN!?

Nobody posted an answer so I will try to give my opinion on the second choice because that's what I think I would do in your situation.
The second setup seems the most flexible, you have access to the datas and only need to open one port on for the federating server, so it should still be secure.
One other bonus of this type of setup is that even if the firewall stop working for a reason or another, you will still have a prometheus scraping, you will have an alert because you won't be able to access the server(s) but when the connexion comes again you will have all the datas. You won't have a hole in the grafana dashboards because there was no datas, apart during the incident.
The issue with this setup is the fact that you need to maintain a number of server equivalent to the number of networks. A solution for this would be to have a packer image or maybe an ansible playbook to deploy.
Is it possible to access my Cisco router details like Name,Model,IP Address,Connection status etc from my iOS mobile.
I'm even ready to write small mobile app in iOS to get all router details.
Since I have just started learning in iOS, don't know if any library already exists for above task.
If my router does not work or gets hang.. I even want to try for restart of router using my mobile.
If example code exist, it will be very useful.
Like Cisco already has andriod and iOS app for same above function but dont want to use this app and want to write my own app with limited features only.

Accessing network gear is best done by using SNMP. Cisco has extremely rich management/monitoring capabilities via SNMP and all of their MIBs are publicly available here.
Almost all Cisco gear supports the SNMPv2-SMI MIB (the 1.3.6.1.2.1 OID) so querying things like sysName, sysLocation, sysContact, sysDescription, sysUpTime should be very easy. This MIB even supports tables for listing all the interfaces and IP addresses and has a whole lot of other things that might be of interest to you.
If you have SNMP write access on the device then you can even make config changes and perform management functions like rebooting or bringing an interface up/down.
There are a few SNMP libraries for ObjectiveC and I think Net-SNMP is the most popular (It's not .net even though the title suggests that).
If you are new to SNMP then I suggest starting simple by querying easy objects like 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.5 (sysName) and 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.6 (sysLocation) before trying to jump into tables like 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2 (ifTable)
Remember, you don't have to stick with the standard MIBs you can download all of the custom ones that are particular to your device which will give you incredible amounts of flexibility.
You could use a screen-scraping technique to telnet or ssh to the Cisco device and parse the "show version" output. This will give you some of the information you need. For others, like IP addresses, you can use "show ip interface brief", "show cdp neighbors" etc. as you need.
Keep security in mind: make sure that telnet/ssh credentials are adequately protected in your app's settings, and try to restrict your commands to those that do not need privileged access on the Cisco device.
Be aware that Cisco devices have a small pool of available VTYs, and every telnet/ssh access from your app will use up one VTY. So if you have for example 30 guys wanting to use the access the device simultaneously from their apps, some of those instances are not going to get access to the device.
If this is a concern, SNMP is a better and more scalable option as suggested by previous answer. Make sure that you (a) have a read-only community string configured on the device, and (b) use only the ro community string from the app.
I would like to setup a network connection (RTP or UDP) between two computers at different locations, each of which is behind a NAT modem/firewall. I do not want any modification of the firewalls.
My working assumption is that I need a bot somewhere that both computers can reach (eg a shell account on an internet server). Each computer connects out to the bot and the bot allows the two computers to update and query status and to exchange data.
This is ok as far as it goes, but it means that all data travels via the bot. Is there a way I can connect the two computers without the bot, or failing that, allow the bot to drop out of the data exchange once a connection has been setup? My feeling is that there is no way to do this, but my TCP/IP is a bit rusty...
If you assume nothing on the NAT/Firewall your are correct.
Hole-Punching for example will not work with overloaded NAT (PAT) as far as I know, because the source port is randomized by the NAT device, and it maps/match both the destination public address and the picked up source port elected.
UPnP may work, but again you need to assume it exist and enabled on the NAT device.
As I see it, you got only two options if you want to be generic:
1. Configure the NAT.
2. Use a proxy (the bot you mentioned).
Skype for example uses the second, but does it in a distributed manner by using every Skype client as a potential proxy (probably only if it detects it is not behind a NAT or not limited by it).
I need to connect to a VPN Server , I can`t use windows Connections , My Application should work independently !
I tested some Components using RAS Api , they works ! but by using windows connections .
how can i do that without any dependency to windows connections ?
The problem with this question
"VPN" stands for "Virtual Private Network". It's a way to make a private network available to your computer, possibly in a secure way, so your computer can use standard IP protocols as if it were physically connected to the private network.
The operating system needs to know about that network, so of course all VPN implementations use "windows connections". From a different perspective: When you're connected to a VPN you can open a TCP connection to an IP on the private network as if it were on your local network. Since it's the operating system's job to set up your TCP connection and route your TCP/IP packets, of course it needs to know about the VPN! If it doesn't, it'll simply forward all your requests for the given IP to it's default router and fail with a "no route to destination" message (or a "time out", if your router is not kind enough to tell your system it has no idea what the private IP is).
Can it be done?
From a theoretical point of view, of course, you can bypass Windows completely, but then you'll have to "roll your own" everything. You can't use the Windows IP services, you'll have to implement your own TCP. I'm sure there are about a million other little things that need re-implementing.
For a starting point I'd look at the Open VPN: it's Open Source and available for Windows. It uses the UDP protocol as the bases for the VPN implementation, unlike the Windows VPN (that one uses GRE - General Routing Encapsulation, protocol 47). Open VPN itself, of course, uses a "windows connection" to do it's job, because it aims to provide a useful service, but you can use the source code as the bases for your own implementation.
I personally wouldn't even think about doing this, I'm just showing you the way and proving it's possible.
What should be done
I assume you want some kind of secure communication channel to your own service. Look into simple secure connections, tunneling protocols and proxies.
If this needs to be done for one service on one server, I'd look into a simple SSL implementation. Even better, look into using HTTPS.
If you need to access many different services on possibly different servers on the given private network I'd look into proxies.
I'm looking for a tool under windows or mac that allows me to monitor (possibly in a simple way) the traffic going in and out of a computer of my network.
Long story short the residence where I live allows themselves to monitor the internet connection (and doesn't allow us to switch to another provider).
This annoys me on a personal level (I don't like the possibility of people checkin what I do without my knowledge as a general rule regardless of what I do) but also on a professional level (I sometimes work form home).
I'm using/trying out vpn providers (JAP, VyperVPN...) to avoid all this. it works fine with the http connections (if I run iptraces I end up in germany or US or UK ...) but I'm not sure for other applications such as online games, instant messaging softwares that use different ports.
So my question is how can I make sure that my internet traffic is using my vpn connection or not ?
Wireshark would do that for you on Windows and linux (Not sure about Mac). It uses WinPCap library and wraps in a nice UI for you to monitor the packets that you are interested. It allows you to listen to specific or all interfaces , so you can make sure your packets are going via the right interface
if you don't want them monitoring your internet usage, a vpn is a good solution, a vpn will encrypt all of your net traffic between your computer and the vpn gateway -- essentially you'd be surfing the web via a proxy and your landlords wouldnt be able to determine what you are doing.
assuming you are using a real vpn, and not just a browser based proxy solution, then the vpn should encrypt and tunnel all of your network traffic, this includes anything coming out of any port on your computer, not just http traffic.
when you install a vpn on your computer, the vpn creates a fake network device, and all of the vpn traffic gets tunneled to the vpn gateway. you can verify this by looking at your computer's routing tables. there are some vpns which allow for split traffic (split tunneling), e.g. traffic to certain domains gets tunneled through the vpn and others goes in the clear, but this is the rarity, most vpns will tunnel all of your traffic, which seems to be what you are looking for.
just make sure that your vpn uses an encryption protocol, there are some that don't -- this would defeat the whole purpose of your vpn.
