I m a iOS Developer. I m new in this field. I m working on an App which is for an enterprise company.
I m little bit confuse that, how we give update notification to user if we upload new version of app on our website not on AppStore because i m using Distribution of Enterprise Application through a website. i upload link there and employees download apps from that link.
Now i want to make new version of that app then what will i do that my previous version users receive notification to update old app to new app.
Plz guide me
There are 3 principal ways:
Email - it's an enteprise application, you should now the emails of your employees
(not everybody uses email on their iPades, sometimes they can forget about emails)
Push notification (they can be disabled and suffer from the same problems as emails - it's only an alert that can be dismissed and forgotten)
In-App checking - the application should check by itself if it has the latest version installed and ask the user frequently to update or even block the usage of the app if not updated (if the use case makes sense). This works best with a push notification and also with email for major updates (to inform users about new features).
you can notify all your app user by using Push Notification.
Obviously you can use the push notifications only if you have implemented them in your previous version of the app which is already there in the devices. If not implemented then you can't use push notifications for this purpose.
If not, then my suggestion is that you can manually inform them through mail and implement the push notifications in this version. So that you can use the same for new version to notify them.
Suppose we send email of updation to all employees to update the app but what is the process or line of code to that when employee download the app from link then previous app updated into new app

My App is already published on App store but my client gets a conflict with the publisher party. Now an updated application is in pending state for which my worried client suggested me if we can upload this application from new developers account as many of customers aren't comfort to using the app with bugs.
Now, I want to published it from my account. what should I do ?
Any suggestions ?
p.s That party has no more contact with us now and they are not even removing our app from thier developers account.
Here few things you can do :
That application is of your client & they have all the rights of the concept & idea & name of the application. So in that case you can send an appeal to the apple support team
If they will feel it appropriate then apple review team will immediately take an action & that application will be removed from that account
Now the question is how you can publish the same app from another account. So for that :
First thing is app name is already in use now so it won't allow you to take a same name even if app removed from sale.
So best thing you can do is you can modify slightly app name & than reuse it for submitting app again
Important Note :
For resubmitting the app you should have a latest source first. If you already have it than there will be no issues for you in resubmitting app on new iTunes account.
But don't forget to send appeal to the support team for the app is already live on the store by mis using your client details & wait till apple team takes actions against that app
Hope it will helps.
I have one app online into my itunesconnect account and recently I have created a new app of the same service.
I started a new one because it was less time spending started a new app from scratch. Now I want to notify to the users of my older app that there is a new app that is the upgraded of the older one.
There is any way to send a popup through itunes connect because I'm the owner of both?
thanks for any kind of suggestion
Push notification should be your answer or you can implement an alert for old app that can be triggered later via an endpoint or push notification as well.
As far as I understand it, every time I release an update to my iPhone app, Apple somehow notifies all users of my app update.
Is there a way to selectively target certain users, as dictated by my server for example, to receive update notifications? So only users with the property 'X' would get a notification when a new version of the app was available.
Apple doesn't notify anyone about your app update other than through the App Store app. There is nothing you can do to prevent this. All users will be able to access your update.
However, if you wanted, you could add a feature in your app that check your server to see if there is an update, and for some desired users you could show an alert letting the user know there is an update.
No, there is no such way. You can't manipulate the behavior of the App Store app.
I have 2 application on appstore
Free app with in app purchase.
Paid app.
Now, I want to keep only one app on appstore from above options 1.Free app with in app purchase and remove the paid app. But here I want to give the app with full functionality to those user who used the paid app (Purchased the paid app).
Here my question is how can I merge these 2 app into single app which will be free and contains in app purchase by keeping the paid app user as it is ?
If anyone have any idea regarding this then please share.
Thanks in advance.
I solved my problem by using the icloud. First I provided the update to both the application by doing following changes.
I used "key value store" icloud option and stored some setting on icloud just need to make sure here "iCloud Key-Value Store" value in .entitlements file (which was automatically created by XCode) in both the application is same for both the application. The setting stored here is accessible to both application and depending on the setting I identified the user and gave access to specific functionality.
Under iOS7, you can use Receipt Validation. Receipt Validation offers you to see information about purchasing the app and in app purchases. If it returns date before you made the app free, that means that the user paid for the app.
This will work only under iOS7.
See Receipt Validation Programming Guide
I too am facing this issue with a couple of my apps. I'm still looking for a good solution, but I came up a less-than-ideal solution in the meantime. You can issue an update to your paid app that will connect to a database (on your web server) and insert a row with information about the purchase (AppleID, maybe some kind of digital receipt). Then in the free version with IAPs, the same database connection can be used to see if the owner of the free app already purchased the other app. Based off of that, you can unlock the IAPs. The only problem is that this is dependent on all previous customers updating to the latest version.
As mentioned, Receipt Validation would probably be more efficient, however this isn't backwards compatible. Good luck!
I'm assuming you're looking to merge the purchase history on Apple's servers; you can't merge the purchase data for two bundle IDs, you'll have to devise some way of having users persist their data on a server that you control. Update your app with a login and tie that login with the purchases as user has made.
The workflow would be something like this:
1) User logs in on paid app
2) User restores purchase history
3) Paid app saves restored purchase history to your server
4) User logs in on free app
5) Free app downloads all purchase data for the logged in user
Yes,
This rule clearly states that any advertising or marketing activity by Push Notification could cost your a ban in App Store.
So how about Groupon and other special offer focused apps? Each day I receive notifications from Groupon with clear marketing content, and when I open it I'm redirected into the view with big "Buy" button (Btw. do you know any other live apps using push in similar way? I mean not exact Groupon-clone apps).
Ofcourse user need to have a choice if he wants to receive such notifications or not, and from who (like in Groupon you can choose subscribed cities), privacy policy need to clearly state what kind of notifications user will receive. Maybe the frequency of notifications does matter (1 per day for Groupon)?
Ok lets get back to the point of my question:
Whats the receipe for such app which explicitly bends the 5.6 rule to stays up and running in App Store?
Have you ever trying to submit similar application?
App reviews rules are not strict, since Groupon is just that, an advertisement platform, an app is expected to send these kind of push notification.
But if, for example, the Facebook app would be using push notification to tell there users to download some other app the rulle 5.6 will come in to play.
But just that some other app got approved does in no way mean that you app will, even if it has the same functionality. So the answer you are seeking for will not do you any good, since even if someone got there app approved will not mean you will get it approved.
