I am trying to parse
2013-01-23T22:46:29.564Z
into an NSDate with:
NSDate *date = [GeneralHelper getDateFromDateString:expiryDateASStr];
if(date != nil) {
printf("\n PARSED DATE %s", [date.description UTF8String]);
} else {
printf("\n failed to parse");
}
but it is failing, how can I get this to work? Thanks!
Use a NSDateFormatter
NSString * dateString = #"2013-01-23T22:46:29.564Z";
NSDateFormatter * dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:SS.SSS'Z'"];
NSDate * date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
Like #Gabriele said, using a NSDateFormatter is the way to go. The following will work for you, including the date format:
NSDateFormatter* df = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[df setLocale:[NSLocale currentLocale]];
[df setCalendar:[NSCalendar currentCalendar]];
[df setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone defaultTimeZone]];
[df setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:SS.SSS'Z'"];
NSLog(#"%#", [df dateFromString:expiryDateASStr]);
Do NOT use the capital Ys "YYYY" unless you want the year in "Week of Year" based calendars. Most use cases "yyyy" is the correct way to specify the year.

I tried to use the NSDateFormatter to format a date that selected from a UIDatepicker. But the formatted result giving a nil.
-(NSString *)formatDateWithString:(NSString *)date{
NSDateFormatter* dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
dateFormatter.dateFormat = #"yyyy-MMM-dd HH:mm:ss";
NSDate *formattedDate = [dateFormatter dateFromString:date];
return [dateFormatter stringFromDate:formattedDate];
}
date input is 2016-04-22 16:30:36 +0000(after selected from UIDatePicker). How may I fix this?
As mentioned in the comment you can get the NSDate directly from the UIDatePicker and pass that date directly in the formatter
NSDateFormatter * formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MMM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
NSString *dateString = [formatter stringFromDate:datePicker.date];//pass the date you get from UIDatePicker
If you want to convert the same way you have mentioned in the question you can try like this:
-(NSString *)formatDateWithString:(NSString *)date{
NSDateFormatter * formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss z"];
NSDate * convrtedDate = [formatter dateFromString:date];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MMM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
NSString *dateString = [formatter stringFromDate:convrtedDate];
return dateString;
}
I am trying to get date in the format Monday, March 09, 2015. But following code is not returning required date format. I think I am using wrong Formatter. Here is the code:
NSString *dateString = #"09-03-2015";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"dd MMMM yyyy"];
NSDate *date = [[NSDate alloc] init];
date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
NSLog(#"%#",[dateFormatter stringFromDate:date]);
try this...
//Getting date from string
NSString *dateString = #"09-03-2015";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"dd-MM-yyyy"];
NSDate *date = [[NSDate alloc] init];
date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
// converting into our required date format
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"EEEE, MMMM dd, yyyy"];
NSString *reqDateString = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date];
NSLog(#"date is %#", reqDateString);
LOG:2015-03-09 12:40:33.456 TestCode [1377:38775] date is Monday, March 09, 2015
Firstly you must convert your dateString to NSDatevalue
NSString *dateString = #"09-03-2015";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"dd-MM-yyyy"];
NSDate *date = [[NSDate alloc] init];
date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
NSLog(#"%#",[dateFormatter stringFromDate:date]);
after that you could use this format: #"EEEE,MMMM dd, yyyy" to convert that dateValue to dateString like Monday, March 09, 2015
Hope this help
Helpful link for you
Try to set dateFormat property to #"dd'-'MM'-'yyyy" . Always check the unicode the date symbol table. "MMMM" means that the date month should be a full month name.
Try this one..
NSString * yourJSONString = #"09-03-2015";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];;
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"dd-MM-yyyy"];
[dateFormatter setLocale:[NSLocale currentLocale]];
NSDate *dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:yourJSONString];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"EEEE,LLLL dd, yyyy"];
NSString *output = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:dateFromString];
NSLog(#"%#", output);
Try this:-
NSDate *date = [NSDate date];
NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
NSString * format = [NSDateFormatter dateFormatFromTemplate:#"EEEEMMMMdyyyy" options:0 locale:[NSLocale currentLocale]];
[formatter setDateFormat:format];
NSString *dateFormatted = [fullDateFormatterTime stringFromDate: date];
NSLog(#"Formatted date: %#", dateFormatted);
I am working with NSDate i created one function which give Today date with "dd/MM/yyyy" format but NSDate always show "nil" value. I googled lot and also see lots of stackoverflow answer but all answer return NSString value not NSDate value so please guide me to get NSDate with given format.
+(NSDate*)getCurrentDate{
NSDateFormatter *DateFormatter=[[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[DateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss"];
//Date print here
NSLog(#"Utility CurrentDate: %#",[DateFormatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]]);
NSString *dateString = [DateFormatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]];
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
NSDateFormatter *newDateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc]init];
[newDateFormatter setDateFormat:DATE_FORMAT];
//Date print here
NSLog(#"New Date: %#",[newDateFormatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]]);
NSDate *dateFromString = [newDateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
return dateFromString;
}
The issue is here
NSDate *dateFromString = [newDateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
Here your dateString is 2014-12-11 03:41:31, hence it is not getting formatted. You should change either newDateFormatter or DateFormatter to convert as per your requirement.
EDIT:
Replace [DateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss"]; with [DateFormatter setDateFormat: DATE_FORMAT];
But your return date will not be in the desired way, since you are returning an NSDate Object. You should return a formatted string.
You are completely misunderstanding what NSDate is and does. An NSDate is an absolute point in time. It has no format. It cannot have a format. It is absolutely impossible to have an NSDate in "dd/MM/yyyy" format or in any other format.
When you want to display a date to the user, you use NSDateFormatter to convert the NSDate into a string. In any format you like.
check here Convert date from string or you can use this methods to convert.
These all three functions you can use to format date values..
-(NSString*)getStringFromDate:(NSDate*)pDate withFormat:(NSString*)pDateFormat{
NSDateFormatter *dtFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dtFormatter setDateFormat:pDateFormat];
[dtFormatter setLocale:[NSLocale systemLocale]];
return [dtFormatter stringFromDate:pDate];}
-(NSDate*)getDateFromString:(NSString*)pStrDate withFormat:(NSString*)pDateFormat{
NSDateFormatter *dtFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dtFormatter setDateFormat:pDateFormat];
[dtFormatter setLocale:[NSLocale systemLocale]];
return [dtFormatter dateFromString:pStrDate];}
-(NSString*)dateStringFromString:(NSString *)dateToConver format:(NSString *)fromFormat toFormat:(NSString *)toFormat{
NSDate *date = [Helper getDateFromString:dateToConver withFormat:fromFormat];
return [Helper getStringFromDate:date withFormat:toFormat];}
Refer the below modified method in dd/MM/yyyy format:-
+(NSString*)getCurrentDate{
NSDateFormatter *format=[[NSDateFormatter alloc]init];
[format setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss ZZZ"];
NSString *currentDt=[format stringFromDate:[NSDate date]];
NSDate *dt=[format dateFromString:currentDt];
[format setDateFormat:#"dd/MM/yyy"];
return [format stringFromDate:dt];
}

NSDate from NSString gives null result

Closed 9 years ago.
My code is the following:
NSString *dateString = #"1339007317";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy"];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
NSString *year = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date];
NSLog(#"%#",year);//null
How to fix that? thanx.
It is because you are using unix timestamp and you can convert unix timestamp into year or any date format as :
//Posted Date Format
NSString *dateStr = #"1339007317";
NSDate *date = [NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSince1970:[dateStr doubleValue]];
NSLocale *locale = [[NSLocale alloc] initWithLocaleIdentifier:#"en-US"];
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter1 = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter1 setDateFormat:#"yyyy"]; //Here you can set any date format Ex:#"dd MMM, yyyy hh:mm a" or#"dd/MM/yyyyy" according to your requirement
[dateFormatter1 setLocale:locale];
[dateFormatter1 setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone systemTimeZone]];
dateStr = [dateFormatter1 stringFromDate: date];
Hope it helps you.
You need two date formats. The first should match the format of the string you wish to convert to an NSDate. The second format needs to represent the format you want. Use the 2nd to convert the NSDate to the new string.
Also, why do you create a date object then immediately replace it with a new one?
Change this:
NSDate *date = [[NSDate alloc] init];
date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
to:
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
Your code needs to be like this:
NSString *dateString = #"1339007317";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"???"]; // format that matches the dateString
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy"]; // the desired new format
NSString *year = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date];
NSLog(#"%#",year);
In my project i need to check some format coming from server, So i want to write a regular expression to check the format.
This is the format "03/31/2013 08:00:00" and other format is "03/31/2003 08:00 AM/PM"
How can i check this date formats. Can any one help me.
Regards
Kiran
^(?:\d{2}\/){2}\d{4} \d{2}:\d{2}(?::\d{2}| (?:AM|PM))?$
Note that it won't check for incorrect values.
If you want to get NSDate from this string, you should use NSDateFormetter instead:
NSString * date = #"03/31/2013 08:00:00"; // source string
NSDateFormatter * date_formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[date_formatter setDateFormat: #"MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss"]; // your date format
NSDate * result = [date_formatter dateFromString: date]; // converting
NSLog (#"%#", [result description]); // log your date result
[date_format release];
Not a real answer to your question about regex but, if you want to get the date from the dateString received from server you can try a trial and error method with the dateFormat of NSDateFormatter.
NSString *dateFormat1 = #"MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss";
NSString *dateFormat2 = #"MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss a";
NSString *dateString = #"03/31/2013 08:00:00 AM";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc]init];
NSLocale *enUSPOSIXLocale = [[NSLocale alloc] initWithLocaleIdentifier:#"en_US_POSIX"];
[dateFormatter setLocale:enUSPOSIXLocale];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:dateFormat1];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
if (!date) {
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:dateFormat2];
date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
}
NSLog(#"Date : %#",date);
