Under the link http://docs.buildbot.net/latest/manual/cfg-buildsteps.html#shellcommand,
in the shell command it states that
On Windows, commands are run via cmd.exe /c which works well. However, if you're running a batch file, the error level does not get propagated correctly unless you add 'call' before your batch file's name: cmd=['call', 'myfile.bat', ...].
It says that the commands are executed cmd.exe.
I assume the cmd.exe is located in the c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe, am i right or it calls from some other location like in the windows startup .
The cmd.exe is the one found in the system path variable PATH for the Jenkins process. On my machine it is in C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe.
I want to install Jenkins on a VM using Chef (and Apache Brooklyn). The blueprint being used is,
name: chef-jenkins
location:
jclouds:aws-ec2:
region: xyz
services:
- type: chef:jenkins
cookbook_urls:
jenkins: .../jenkins.tgz
runit: ... /runit.tgz
apt: .../apt.tgz
yum: .../yum20150407-59421-1bw7bou.tar.gz
launch_run_list: [ "jenkins::start" ]
service_name: jenkinsd
The service_name parameter is incorrect.
Running this throws an error "Failure running task ssh: run chef for launch (jSUGhBph): SSH task ended with exit code 1 when 0 was required, in Task[ssh: run chef for launch:jSUGhBph]: run chef for launch".
What else am I missing? Is it possible to run a simple chef recipe (e.g. https://gist.github.com/nstielau/978920) directly?
The error message you saw indicates that one of the shell commands that Brooklyn tried to run on the cloud server failed - in particular to "run chef for launch" command. To find out why this failed, use the Activity tab:
The tree view on the left contains the whole application. Expand this.
This will reveal the entities that make up the application. This blueprint has only one, called jenkins (chef) - click on this.
Click on the Activity tab. This will show you the list of tasks. One of them will have the status Failed - click on this.
Tasks can have subtasks, so you may see another task list, with one in status Failed - keep following this trail until you come to the last failed task
If this is an SSH task, you will have links to download stdout and stderr - you can inspect these to find out exactly why the shell command failed.
You can also find a section on troubleshooting in the Apache Brooklyn user guide which may help diagnose other problems.
I've taken your blueprint and made a few modifications; this is now working on my Ubuntu 14.04 image:
name: chef-jenkins
location: vagrant-trusty
services:
- type: chef:jenkins
cookbook_urls:
jenkins: data:application/octet-stream;charset=UTF-8;base64,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

launch_run_list: [ "jenkins::default" ]
service_name: jenkins
launch_attributes:
java:
jdk_version: 7
This blueprint is ready-to-run (except for changing the location to match your requirements). Here are some of the changes I have made:
Full URLs for the three cookbooks
The jenkins data URL contains a bare-bones cookbook containing the recipe you referred to in a gist, tarred-and-gzipped
For the jenkins cookbook, I had to specify depends "apt" and depends "java" in metadata.rb otherwise I got strange Chef errors
Fixed launch_run_list to refer to the correct recipe name
Fixed service_name to refer to the correct service name
Added launch_attributes to configure the Java cookbook to install Java 7 (the default of Java 6 is not supported by Jenkins)
I am able to run my script successfully from jenkins when jenking is opened using war file.
If set the jenkinks as winservice my script is failing in middle.
I am trying to run a start.bat file from jenkinks, this bat file calls a java class. again this java class uses bat file to run a plink command.
Execution stops at this stepsif jenkinks is running as winservice and also I can't view the output as it is running in background.
Is there any way to make jenkinks behave normal while running as winservice
Thanks
Try this:
1. Go to services (hit windows key, type "services", select "Services" from the list of matches).
2. Find the Jenkins service and open it's properties
3. Switch to Log On tab
4. Change the service to run as you, instead of local system user.
5. Restart service.
Alternative is to fix local system user account (probably environment variables) so it works as local system user.
I am creating a user defined service on Windows Xp using sc.exe
To create I started with
sc.exe create "My Service" binPath= "D:\Service.bat"
Got a message CreateService SUCCESS.
Then I entered services.msc in the RUN and found the service which I created was there
Right clicked My Service then properties and when I started
I get an error as
ERROR 1053: The service did not respond to the start in a timely fashion
How do I fix this error.
Thanks
I think you need to enter cmd as command;
sc.exe create "My Service" binPath= "cmd /c D:\Service.bat"
And make sure the batch file does not stop too quick. At the first line of the batchfile let it write to a logfile, so you can see it is being executed. (and use a location where the service user may write to).
echo starting at %date% %time% > d:\service.log
As an alternative you can also use srvany.exe, see KB137890, but that is more hassle.
I have a couple old services that I want to completely uninstall. How can I do this?
Use the SC command, like this (you need to be on a command prompt to execute the commands in this post):
SC STOP shortservicename
SC DELETE shortservicename
Note: You need to run the command prompt as an administrator, not just logged in as the administrator, but also with administrative rights. If you get errors above about not having the necessary access rights to stop and/or delete the service, run the command prompt as an administrator. You can do this by searching for the command prompt on your start menu and then right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator". Note to PowerShell users: sc is aliased to set-content. So sc delete service will actually create a file called delete with the content service. To do this in Powershell, use sc.exe delete service instead
If you need to find the short service name of a service, use the following command to generate a text file containing a list of services and their statuses:
SC QUERY state= all >"C:\Service List.txt"
For a more concise list, execute this command:
SC QUERY state= all | FIND "_NAME"
The short service name will be listed just above the display name, like this:
SERVICE_NAME: MyService
DISPLAY_NAME: My Special Service
And thus to delete that service:
SC STOP MyService
SC DELETE MyService
Click Start | Run and type regedit in the Open: line. Click OK.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
Scroll down the left pane, locate the service name, right click it and select Delete.
Reboot the system.
As described above I executed:
sc delete ServiceName
However this didn't work as I was executing it from PowerShell.
When using PowerShell you must specify the full path to sc.exe because PowerShell has a default alias for sc assigning it to Set-Content. Since it's a valid command it doesn't actually show an error message.
To resolve this I executed it as follows:
C:\Windows\System32\sc.exe delete ServiceName
Use services.msc or (Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services) to find the service in question. Double-click to see the service name and the path to the executable.
Check the exe version information for a clue as to the owner of the service, and use Add/Remove programs to do a clean uninstall if possible.
Failing that, from the command prompt:
sc stop servicexyz
sc delete servicexyz
No restart should be required.
SC DELETE "service name"
Run the command on cmd as Administrator otherwise you will get this error :-
openservice failed 5 access is denied
If you have Windows Vista or above please run this from a command prompt as Administrator:
sc delete [your service name as shown in service.msc e.g moneytransfer]
For example: sc delete moneytransfer
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\BBRTL\moneytransfer\
Find moneytransfer registry keys and delete them:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet002\Services\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet002\Services\EventLog\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Assemblies\ [remove .exe references]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders
These steps have been tested on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008.
We can do it in two different ways
Remove Windows Service via Registry
Its very easy to remove a service from registry if you know the right path. Here is how I did that:
Run Regedit or Regedt32
Go to the registry entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services"
Look for the service that you want delete and delete it. You can look at the keys to know what files the service was using and delete them as well (if necessary).
Delete Windows Service via Command Window
Alternatively, you can also use command prompt and delete a service using following command:
sc delete
You can also create service by using following command
sc create "MorganTechService" binpath= "C:\Program Files\MorganTechSPace\myservice.exe"
Note: You may have to reboot the system to get the list updated in service manager.
If they are .NET created services you can use the installutil.exe with the /u switch
its in the .net framework folder like
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727
This did the job for me on Windows 10:
start the cmd.exe as admin
run SC DELETE "com.docker.service"
reinstall docker
Here is a vbs script that was passed down to me:
Set servicelist = GetObject("winmgmts:").InstancesOf ("Win32_Service")
for each service in servicelist
sname = lcase(service.name)
If sname = "NameOfMyService" Then
msgbox(sname)
service.delete ' the internal name of your service
end if
next
sc delete name
Before removing the service you should review the dependencies.
You can check it:
Open services.msc and find the service name, switch to the "Dependencies" tab.

You can use my small service list editor utility Service Manager
You can choose any service > Modify > Delete. Method works immediately, no reboot required.

For me my service that I created had to be uninstalled in Control Panel > Programs and Features
