SharePoint 2007 Web Application is not found - sharepoint-2007

I created a Web Application called testwebapp and then a site collection (testsite). When I try siteCollection = new SPSite("http://localhost"); in Visual Studio 2008 it throws an error Web Application is not found. Of course, the localhost works in IE and I don't know why testwebapp doesn't work. Any ideas? TIA!
David

We saw a weird behavior like this once. Try putting a trailing slash on the end of the url when instantiating the site.
siteCollection = new SPSite("http://localhost/");
The problem we saw was that there were 2 web applications essentially sitting at the same url. One was completely hidden and it would be hit when we left the trailing slash off. Maybe you have some weirdness going on like that if you've deleted the root web application and added it back in?

Try giving the proper url instead of using localhost. So if your machine name is mymachine use:
siteCollection = new SPSite("http://mymachine/");
This should work.

How to debug an ASPNET Core application in a subfolder

I have a ASPNET Core application that works fine on my machine with URL https://localhost:5001/, but not on the client's server, where the application's URL is https://example.com/subfolder/.
The problem seems to be an error in a redirect on one of the pages, where a user is sent to /something rather than /subfolder/something. I'm using relative URL's only. In the rest of the application, redirects work fine.
I was wondering if it is possible to debug the application in Visual Studio and have it run in a subfolder, preferably using Kestrel, but IIS Express might be an option too.
Update after comments While adding specifics about the problem, I found out that I was looking at it from the wrong angle. The actual problem seems to be that the application is started as https://example.com/subfolder (no trailing slash). Redirecting to ./something (or just something) will result in https://example.com/something.
(My real question therefore would be: If https://example.com/subfolder is opened, how can I redirect to https://example.com/subfolder/? I'll first try to fix this myself, maybe it should be configured in the webserver. In the meantime, I'd still like to know if subfolders can be used in debugging)
In development, it seems you can't debug your program in subfolder.
I don't recommand you to spend a lot of time to serach how to do that, and I also suggest you use IIS. Because in IIS, it supports Virtual Application, and I think it is you want.
Steps:
create a main website, and create a virtual application.
choose the project folder as Physical Path, mainsite and virtualapplication.
open vs2019 as administrator, maybe you need open it twice, and one for main site and another for virtual application.
then you can attach to a running process on your local machine.
you can start your two webapp in one port, and you can debug them.

URL Routes In IIS7 MVC 5 (Single Paged Application)

After publishing a MVC5 web application of mine to my IIS server (Individual User Accounts), it would seem that the URL is accessed incorrectly.
During debug, it would be e.g http://localhost:1234/api/Account/UserInfo?=XXXXX
The debug works just fine. The only issue kicks in after I've published it via my IIS7 server.
After publishing and using Google Chrome's console, it would appear that the page is requesting for a resource at mydomainname.com/api/Account/UserInfo?=XXXX instead of mydomainname.com/WEBAPPLICATIONNAME/api/Account/UserInfo?=XXXX.
My best guess is to modify the URLs in /Scripts/app/app.datamodel.js but it would just cause more parsing problems.
I've searched around and can't seem to find any related problems. I hope someone here will be able to lend a hand.
Look like you are using relative path like "/api/Account/UserInfo". Instead i'll recommend you to use #Url.Content("/api/Account/UserInfo"). This will solve your problem
Explanation
In local system when we run application in WebDev server it never have sub folder (like WEBAPPLICATIONNAME) therefore you relative path work correctly. but when you host your application in IIS under Default website in another new website /Virtual folder (like 'WEBAPPLICATIONNAME') then "/api/Account/UserInfo" fall back to Default Website because for '/' in starting. #Url.Content or #Url.Action make sure to add virtual directory name, hence changing your path to "/WEBAPPLICATIONNAME/api/Account/UserInfo" in IIS.

MVC.NET 404 outside of Domain

I am trying to get a demo site for a client setup. This is the 1st application my company is doing in MVC.NET, so I get to experience all the new things to find out (and all the headaches it'll cause).
Anyway, the site works fine locally (localhost) and on the server inside our domain. External users not on the domain however, only get 404 errors. I've tried several different settings/ config options I've found on this site, but nothing is working. I don't know if it's a web.config issue or an IIS issue, or even simply a permissions issue (though it has all the same permissions as the other sites we run with Web Forms).
IIS: v7 in intergrated mode.
Windows Server Web
Well, because you received a 404, the server is being reached okay which is a good sign. (Dealing with firewall issues at a company is always a lot of fun.)
A common problem for something like this is the use of virtual directories to host the website. For example, if the address to your site is http://example.com/MySite/, in MVC that would translate to: /MySite/View/Index.aspx. HOWEVER...if you are using virtual folders, /MySite/ may instead point to another spot on the server (e.g. C:\WebSites\MySite). If you are indeed using virtual paths, make sure you have your files stored at the correct path.
There is a troubleshooting tutorial here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/248033
thanks for the answers everyone. Turns out it was something with our DNS routing setup with the sub-domains. It was getting rerouted to a place that didn't exist. Our IT guy finally got around to fixing it (ugh!)

Going live with a MVC site

I just moved my site to my server which is windows 2003 sp2, sql 2005.
I have a mvc site running on my server (althought i have it turned off) it works fine but my new site does not work correctly
For some reason the routing fails to work on my server. I can hit the homepage fine using the domain but clicking on any link(or typing it in) results in simply a page not found issue!
"The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable."
MVC doesn't play so well with IIS6 out of the box. Have you configured a handler for either .mvc or a wildcard handler?
You need to make your MVC assemblies bin deployable: http://www.britishdeveloper.co.uk/2010/05/mvc2-deploy-could-not-load-file-or.html

getting mvc on shared host to work

Any idea on how to get my asp.net mvc website to work on a webhost that's running asp.net 3.5 but maybe not IIS 7? (I think they might be on IIS 6)
I am on Crystal Tech and my home page shows up just fine but all other requests give me a 404 page not found error.
Note: I already follow these instructions but it's still not working
http://haacked.com/archive/2008/11/03/bin-deploy-aspnetmvc.aspx
Have you tried this?

I had the same problem - I tried to fix it, but decided that spending the time screwing around with running on a backlevel server wasn't worth it. In the end it was just easier for me to move to a host that ran Windows Server 2008 and IIS7.
If you do have IIS7, then you may have an option to switch IIS7 between integrated and pipeline mode. Try switching to the other mode in your control panel. That's what worked for me.
I fixed it by adding an .aspx at the end of all my routes in the route table("/{Controller}/{Action}/{id}.aspx").
You can add any extension that asp.net handles(like .mspx, .ashx, ...)
The only way to fix it without adding any extension is to ask your host to do so, or change your host to another with IIS7
