How to deliver our application as a single package - docker

I did a POC regarding delivering our application as a Docker image, where we were able to install the backend application on our local machine using Docker Desktop and Minikube. 
Now we want to know if we can deliver our application as a single package where the package will contain all the necessary files and scripts to install and configure front end,  backend, and database.
It will also have the scripts to install all the pre-requisites e.g. JAVA, ANGULAR CLI, POSTGRESQL etc.
 
Please give us insights, if this is possible?
If not, then up-to what extent we can go with this approach?

How to host a web app locally on my computer

I have created a web app and I want to have it hosted locally on my computer so I can go to the browser and type https://localhost:<port number> and it will load up. However I am not sure how to do this or if it is even possible. My issue is I am not entirely sure what I need to google to get the answers and advice.
A little about what I have created and want to achieve:
This web app is written in Angular with a Spring Boot back end that it calls with all the functionality (it is a little overkill but the aim was to learn Java and Spring Boot, I could have technically done it all in the front end)
The data for this web app is stored in a MongoDB that is on my laptop
I currently run npm run dev when I have been developing it which is concurrently \"java -jar jars/java-fuel-consumption-api.jar\" \"npm start\" \"ng serve --proxy-config proxy.conf.json --open\"
I am not interested in having it hosted for others to use, it is just a simple personal project that I have written to help me learn JS and Spring Boot more
I have a MacBook Air so I am not sure if there is anything already installed from Apple that can help
I have got some experience of Docker and wouldn't say no to trying to learn a bit more
I want it to be running in the background so I can just access it any time without doing an npm run ... command but have the ability to stop it when required (for updates and fixes)
Not bothered about the URL - I assume that as it is being hosted on my computer it will just be localhost
I want to avoid AWS/Azure with the reason is that I don't want to pay! It works by doing npm run dev but I just want to have it in a more professional manner
Sorry for the vauge question but I am in need of some advice of where to start - I know the end goal but like with most things like this I have little experience in how it needs to be acheived! Help to be pointed in the right direction is most appreciated.
You can use XAMPP, it's a, simple to install, Apache Server with DB: https://www.apachefriends.org/download.html
This will allow you to host anything locally.
Another option would be AWS, they offer some test/trial servers as well.

Docker query on containerizing

Our requirement is to create a container for legacy apps over docker.
We don't have the operating system support/application server support available, nor do we have knowledge to build them from scratch.
But we have a physical instance of the legacy app running in our farm.
We could get an ISO image from our server team if required, our question is if we get this ISO image can we export this as a docker image?
if yes, please let me know if there is any specific procedure or steps associated with it.
if no, please tell me why? and the possible workarounds for the same.

I don't think there is an easy way (like push-the-export-button) to do this. Explanation follows...
You are describing a procedure taking place in the Virtual Machine world. You take a snapshot of a server, move the .iso file somewhere else and create a new VM that will run on a Hypervisor.
Containers are not VMs. They "contain" all the bytes that a service needs to run but not a whole operating system. They are supposed to run as processes on the host.
Workarounds:
You will have to get your hands dirty. This means that you will have to find out what the legacy app uses (for example Apache + PHP + MySql + app code) and build it from scratch with Docker.
Some thoughts:
containers are supposed to be lightweight. For example one might use one container for the database, another one for the Apache etc... Your case looks like you are moving towards a fat container that has everything inside.
Depending on what the legacy technology is, you might hit a wall... For example, if we are talking about something working with old php, mysql you might find ready-to-use images on hub.docker.com. But if the legacy app is a financial system written in cobol, I don't know what your starting point might be...
You will need to reverse engineer the application dependencies from the artifacts that you have in access to. This means recovering the language specific dependencies (whether python, java, php, node, etc). And any operating system level packages/dependencies that are required.
Essentially you are rebuilding the contents of that ISO image inside your docker file using OS package installation tools like apt, language level tools like pip, PECL, PEAR, composer, or maven, and finally the files that make up the app code.
So, for example: a PHP application might be dependent on having build-essential and php-mysql installed in the OS. Then the app may be dependent on packages like twig and monolog loaded through composer. If you are using SASS you may need to install ruby as well.
Your job is to track all these down and create a docker file that reproduces the iso image. If you are using a common stack like a J2EE app in tomcat, or a php app fronted by apache or ngnix, there will be base docker images that will get you most of the way to where you need to go.
It does look like there are some tools that can do this for you automatically: Dependency Walker equivalent for Linux?. I can't vouch for any of them. But you can also use command line tools. For example this will give you a list of all the user installed packages on a fedora system:
sudo dnf history userinstalled
When an app is using a dependency manager like composer or pip, there is usually a file that lists all the language specific dependencies.
At the end of the process you'll have a portable legacy app that can be easily deployed anywhere with a minimal footprint.
As one of the comments rightly points out, creating a VM from the ISO image is another way forward that will be much easier to accomplish. The application dependencies won't be explicit, but maybe that's ok for your use case.

How to bundle Electron application and windows service together?

I am very new with electron application. I need some help with election installation.
I have an Electron desktop application and a windows service.
I can start and stop my pre installed services by using sudo-prompt package.
I am creating windows installer by using electron-winstaller package.
But I want to bundle my windows service along with my electron application. My requirement is when I install my electron package then it should install my service also, when I uninstall my package then that service should be uninstalled.
Please help me out. Any clue, Any suggestions will be appreciated.
If you think this should be achieved with something else then please do suggest me.
Electron's windows installer packager strikes me a specific case tool that would likely hit limitations in scenarios like this. I would use a general case tool instead such as the Free and Open Source Windows Installer XML Toolset aka WiX. I would also use with that another FOSS application called Industrial Strength Windows Installer XML aka IsWiX.
WiX allows you to describe and build MSI databases using an XML/XSD domain specific language. It supports MSBuild for easy integration with your CI/CD pipeline. IsWiX* is a set of project templates and graphical designers that provide an opinionated project structuring (scaffolding) and greatly speeds up the learning curve and implementation. For example, this installer you describe could be done without writing a single line of XML.

The desktop-application and windows-service tutorials should** show you everything you need to know to author this installer. Basically follow the desktop-application all the way through and then skip to the final portion of the windows-service tutorial where you define the windows service.

If it's really just a console app that runs as a service you will need to include a program such as srvany.exe. This will require one line of hand crafted XML to extended the service definition in the registry with the proper command line value to be passed to your exe. Apache Service Mix Deployment Approaches

Folks,
We have got an enterprise application which uses Apache Service Mix for deployment. The application consists of various services and each is created as separate Maven project (bundle).During development, we are actually building each service separately and in-order to deploy it,its being put in the deploy folder. Also, we have to uninstall the bundle from the container(say; karaf) and then install it again from the console to bring the new changes in effect. This is fine during the development phase.
Now we want to deploy the code to an UAT environment (Amazon EC2) for the client to do the testing. We are now confused about how to deploy the bundles to the remote environment. Do we have a standard approach for CI using Jenkins(or some other tool) to automate the build and deploy process , so that someone who has no knowledge about the bundles(SMX) can deploy the code. We are using Github for source code management.
We have searched a lot in this regard and couldn't find any resources which provide some leads/hints on this.
Any help/tips is highly appreciated. If you need more info, I can give more details.

We do have exactly similar setup and we use the Jenkins to build and let the Sysadmin to copy the bundles to one server and then he enables the rsync to rest of the servers.
Remember, always deploy the dependent bundle first and then remaining ..
Since we have this dependency ,we can't go automating this process.

Is it possible to run a private Hex (Erlang) dependency manager (and if so how)?

I'm working in an Erlang environment. I'm looking to establish a dependency manager so that our build server can publish binaries for reuse instead of using source code dependencies. The Hexpm GitHub project implies that it is possible to run it outside of the hex.pm website, but I don't see any instructions for doing so. Specifically, I would like my build server to be able to publish packages either directly (via the filesystem) or via rebar3, and for subsequent rebar3 builds to be able to use those published packages
Is it possible to run Hex on my own server?
If so, where would I find some documentation on how to set it up (or provide the instructions directly)?
If you look at https://github.com/hexpm/hex_web there are instructions in the README.md for both installing and running it. It's a phoenix application, so it should all be relatively familiar ground if you've looked at the phoenix framework before.
As for getting rebar3 to work with your installation, there is documentation here as to the config values to use for setting the URLs to use for hex packages: http://www.rebar3.org/docs/hex-package-management.
