Can't create a database using PostgreSql with Rails - ruby-on-rails

I'm a junior web developer trying to develop my first Ruby on Rails project. I'm following this guide to deploy the app on render.com.
However, after installing rails and following this command to create a database (I'm on Ubuntu):
rails db:create
I come across this problem in command window:
We could not find your database: postgres. Which can be found in the database configuration file located at config/database.yml.
To resolve this issue:
- Did you create the database for this app, or delete it? You may need to create your database.
- Has the database name changed? Check your database.yml config has the correct database name.
To create your database, run:
bin/rails db:create
Couldn't create 'mysite_development' database. Please check your configuration.
rails aborted!
ActiveRecord::NoDatabaseError: We could not find your database: postgres. Which can be found in the database configuration file located at config/database.yml.

Caused by:

Is the server running locally and accepting connections on that socket?
It says we couldnt find your database. But I have it in config/database.yml:

What should I do? I'm going crazy over this.
I tried a different command:
bin/rails db:create
also didn't work.

The error message indicates the server is not running.
Did you:
Install the PostgreSQL packages?
Start the server? Try running:
sudo systemctl start postgresql

As default you are logged in as default user, That so this error happen. To resolve this error you have to logged in as a postgres user and create user with your username.
sudo su -postgres
then hit enter. then you will be logged in as a postgres user
creatuser -s -r username
then after you can switch back into default browser, to switch back hit ctrl+D
then you can create database
rails db:create

EDIT: Probably not the right answer for most people, since it seems to be a DB connection issue for OP. But this did catch me out. Hopefully someone else with the same circumstances as I can find this thread helpful in the future.
First off, welcome to the industry & best of luck on your junior journey!
I had this exact same problem just recently, and did a deep dive into the gems to debug the issue.
Root cause
I haven't looked too closely after solving the problem, but to me it seems Rails 7 might be treating database.yml somewhat differently from previous versions of Rails (?). Or maybe the database.yml we are both using is messed up straight from the source. To be honest, not sure.
Either way, the problem is this passage:

ActiveRecord is treating default as an environment all on its own, at the same level as development, test and production
Which means that, when you run rails db:create, there's a connection going out for development, test, production.... and then one more time for default
And since the database name is not set on default, ActiveRecord is intelligently using the default database for postgres... which happens to be called postgres
Solution
Simply remove the default config. I kind of like the &default / <<: *default pattern, so what I did was combine the default and development environments like so:

I have created a user with a password in the PostgreSQL console and given the same credentials in the database.yml file.
But just after running this command rails s I faced the below error.

I have just added one line host: localhost in the database.yml and it worked for me.

I Can't connect postgresql in local env after deploy via Render.com

Most important thing, I'm sorry, but I'm not native English speaker.
What I can't
After I deployed my app via "Render.com" (Luckily, it has been a success!), I thought keep developing in local env, but I can't connect my DB.
Error Description
I wanted to test with Rspec, but I got an error so I tried "rails db:reset" to see if it would work.
rails aborted!
ActiveRecord::ConnectionNotEstablished: could not translate host name "xxxxxxxxxxxx" to address: Name or service not known
What I want to do
I would like to eliminate this error so that I can continue to develop properly and locally.
Worry
I am concerned that it may have some effect on the deployed apps. If anyone knows, please advise.

As you can see in the config/database.yml file, the password for both development and production envoirnments are not defined, those users are also not created in the PostgreSQL however i can still push to Heroku and Heroku can somehow still provision a PostgreSQL production environment database which the application utilizes.
I am trying to learn ruby on rails development and this tutorial and
from 3:50 mark, the author does bundle install and immediately does db:create successfully implying he can connect to PostgreSQL in development environment without provisioning user and subsequently changing the values in config/database.yml for development env, while if i do the same results in error, which of couse can be solved by creating user in PostgreSQL and changing the credentials in the yml file, however every tutorial i have stumbled upon do not show creating of users:

Caused by:
PG::InsufficientPrivilege: ERROR: permission denied to create database
There are two main ways to access a local postgresql database. One is using a specific user/password combination in the database.yml file. The other is to set up local postgres to trust your user identity.
For the latter case you need to edit the pg_hba.conf file to have either a trust line (allow anyone to connect, just pass the username) or a peer or ident (depending on the connection - socket or tcp - allows only a postgres role that has the same name as the connecting user, in your case probably webmaster)
For example:

Fatal error when running starting rails server on rubymine

so I started creating a new rails application using rubymine. I have created the new rails app and have also created a model using the scaffold feature. However, whenever I try to start the rails server or run rake db:migrate, I get the following error "PG::ConnectionBad: FATAL: role "Marcos" does not exist". I have tested the connection to my postgres db. The username and password are set to "postgres". Here is my database.yml file:

I have the gem installed but I cant figure out what to do anymore. I know the message basically says that the role cannot be found. How do add the role? how do I check the current roles? Any help would be much appreciated thank you!

fe_sendauth: no password supplied when viewing http://localhost:3000/ after I launch rails s

I have just installed the latest Rails on this mac and I have just run:
rails new testApp2 -d=postgresql
So once my new app is built I launched the rails server with:
rails s
But when I try to access the website on http://localhost:3000/ I get the following error:
fe_sendauth: no password supplied
In the extracted source it has stopped on the following line:
#connection = PGconn.connect(#connection_parameters)
I tried to follow some of the other solutions but they are extremely complex and I feel like I may be missing a piece of software or something much more simple. Please could someone give me a solution I can understand? With reasons.

I could not get the postgres.app working because I kept getting an error that it would not run on this version of OSX (10.6.8) even though it stated it would work with this version. So I am running pgAdmin3 - which I think is similar.
change md5 (or whatever) to trust for your user, local connection in pg_hba.conf - this will allow you to connect without password...
In your database.yml you have testApp2 as your username. Normally (on a Mac at least) Postgres will create the user with the name of your account on your Mac. That is, if you log into your Mac with the username andy then the user for Postgres is andy with no password. It looks as if you have a user named testApp2 in the DB or else it would have given you the error:
FATAL: role "testApp2" does not exist
So you have a user called "testApp2", you can create a password for this user and add it to your database.yml file. You can use psql to do this from the command line. Or you can change the user in database.yml to what ever your account name is on the computer as that user is already set up to be trusted without a password.
