My Jquery files are only loading when page is refreshed. But when I remove (import "#hotwired/turbo-rails") from application.js It works normally. But removing "#hotwired/turbo-rails" causing other issues. Anyone please help.
Like Mike said it's hard to know your exact issue without more detail, but it sounds like an issue I was just having with my link_to and redirects not triggering my javascript events (so my DataTables and certain componants of the random html5 template I'm using were not working).
I was reading through this link and it mentioned making turbo-drive "opt-in" globally across the app by adding this code to the bottom of your app/javascript/controllers/application.js
import { Turbo } from "#hotwired/turbo-rails"
Turbo.session.drive = false
Search for "Disabling Turbo by default" in the link to get to the section I'm referring to.
I'm sure there is a better solution that involves keeping turbo-drive enabled and writing better JS or putting it in a better location, but at least now the JS in my app/javascript/application.js file as well as the JS files in the app/assests/javascripts directory are working the way I expect.

Have been bashing my head against the wall for a good day and a half now. Did everyone abandon old fashioned page structures to go to jQuery Mobile?
I have a webpage, tracks legislation. Main navbar goes as such:
/bills/list, /legislators/list, /committees/list
Where each link is rewritten into
index.php?category=$1&detail=$2
so /bills/list translates to
index.php?category=bills&detail=list
But when I load a page from the navbar, using an a href tag, the pages load all nice and easy using the AJAX loader, but the newly loaded pages 1. don't run scripts, and 2. don't display any formatting. This is a problem.
All the suggestions I have seen say to .bind something or .refresh or .trigger without any context of where that goes, and everything I have tried in that vein has frustrated me to no end.
Please help! And by the way, if I just data-ajax=false everything it works perfectly. But I want the quick loading that ajax gives! I just don't understand how it works and there are really no good pointers on the web I could find.

From what I gather, you shouldn't call new pages via a href, but then why the hell does jqm use href's for its nav menu? Is that supposed to call a function or something?

That happens because JQM ignores all the headers in all other pages besides the first page that loads. So if you want to do any changes to the page use page events, place them In first page.

Hope it clears some things for you. My recommendation for you is to do two simple pages and test simple URL functionality.
I am struggling to get some performance in my MVC application.I am loading a partial page (popup) which is taking hardly 500ms. But each time the popup loads it also downloads 2 jQuery files as well.
is it possible to use the jQuery from cache or from parent page?
I have attached the image in red which shows 2 additional request to server.
In order to improve the performance you can try with the following approaches:
see if your application server supports GZip and configure the application/server to return the responses always archived in Gzip
Use minified version of JQuery
there are also Packing libraries where you can pack all the imported resources, such as CSS files and JS files, and the browser will do only 1 request per resource type. For instance, in Java we have a library called packtag.
In general, I recommend you using Google Chrome browser and its performance analyzer. It will give you good hints.
In the Bundle config use this code
BundleTable.EnableOptimizations = true;
and also indclude both files in single bundle.
Does the popup use an iframe or does it's content just get added to the DOM of the current page?
If it gets added to the current page you could try just adding the script references to the parent page instead. It might not always be the best idea if the parent page has no need for those two files, but if the parent page also uses the jQuery validation then the popup will be able to use the parent's reference to the script file.
For an iframe I'd suggest looking at Gzip and minification to make the scripts load faster.
Long story short:
We've had errors being logged concerning a JQuery/JQueryUI based system for some time. At it's core we're doing a pretty basic click link -> JQuery AJAX GET -> Open JQueryUI modal pattern.
The error we were getting appeared simple - "Object doesn't support property or method 'dialog'" - leading us to believe there was an error with JQueryUI. After expending a lot of time ruling out browser incompatibilities, bad code on JQuery's end, bad code on our end, angry code gods... we caught a lucky break. A 100% repro on one of the machines in the office.
Turns out the thing was riddled with adware - specifically [an older version of] easyinline - http://www.easyinline.com. When the user clicked any link a cascade of javascript files would be loaded, including reloading JQuery from Google's CDN.
For most links this isn't really a problem - they take you off the page anyway and everything reloads. But for our modals it meant that every modal link would stamp over our JQuery at the point the request was sent, resulting in the response trying to make use of the 'new' $ which would now be missing JQueryUI and any other plugins.
Initially we thought about making another global var ($$ or something) for 'our' JQuery and explicitly using that in our code instead of just $. The issue with that is that we were using a few other 3rd party tools which rely on $ and the adware-loaded $ is a different (older) version. So it's important that we preserve $ correctly.
Any ideas? I'm aware of JQuery's noConflict() method but after a cursory glance don't think it fits the bill.
Ultimately we've decided to re-establish our JQuery integrity when we receive any ajax responses (i.e. just before the open modal code is executed). All our ajax stuff is wrapped in our own handler so this was fairly easy to inject across the board.
Basically;
We have the original JQuery 'saved' - we've got it in-scope thanks to our handler but it could be easily put into a separate global (like $$) just after it is loaded. In our ajax response handler we've got a fairly straightforward check;
if (window.$ !== $$) {
window.$ = window.jquery = window.jQuery = $$;
}
This will reset the global jquery back to what it should be.
well this is just a work around and not a full fledged solution.
you can try multiple things here
1. if you have control over what the adware loads then just put in something like this if(!$) where they try to load the jquery
2. try loading your plugin at the end of the page
3.even if end of the page is not working. Try injecting the link(a script tag using document.write) to the plugins CDN in the Jquery document ready event. this would ensure that the plugins code would be loaded at the end when all the jquery is already loaded (not a preferred thing).

I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can get the simple version working but the other one is sending the data, receiving it and then not displaying the results.
I thought it was a css issue, but I've tried various methods to correct it and I haven't had any luck.
No javascript errors as well.

I am working on a test application based on ASP.NET MVC. I am new to CSS stuff so I am learning that as well.
I have created a master page called "new.master" and created a new css "new.css". I am calling the view from controller as:
return View ("About", "new");
What I am doing is that I am frequently updating the css and master page. So I run the application in debug mode frequently. After sometime I stop seeing the effect of changes in css. When I "view source" in chrome and check the css, it shows an old version.
When I change the name of both master page and css, I start to receive updated views but that works for sometime and then again I stop getting the CSS updates. Have you faced this problem? How can I fix it? (Its terribly annoying!)
Your browser is caching the css. If you force a refresh with F5 that should display any changes.
I think this may be a browser cache issue. In in IE and FF I usually do Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Refresh button. Also you can manually clear the cache. For IE you can use the IE Dev Toolbar and for Firefox there is Firebug with both you can clear the cache easily. Not sure about chrome, sorry.

I found another case in which this can happen.
We started our application with just plain links to the CSS files, then switched to using bundling. We updated the old <link href="#Url.Content("~/somePath/someStyle.css")" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> to #Styles.Render("~/Styles/bundles/someStyle").
We also use a few stylesheets which are only needed for some pages, and they have their own bundle. Now, for one of them, we forgot to change the link tag to the #Styles.Render statement.
The result was that this CSS got updated now and then (so we thought everything is OK; the style wasn't missing), but we could not influence when the update happens. When I started making changes to the file, I realized that nothing I do (emptying the cache, rebuilding the project, restarting Cassini) will trigger an update. The browser always got a 304 Not modified.
So, if you have these symptoms, check your links.
Please use Ctrl+F5 to refresh your browser.
F5 may give you the same page even if the content is changed, because it may load the page from cache. But Ctrl - F5 forces a cache refresh, and will guarantee that if the content is changed, you will get the new content.

go to chroom developer panel by right click inspect -> then go to Network tap -> tick the Disable cache checkbox (note: this should always be checked) -> Refresh the page by pressing F5.

It's very possible that css is being cached in your browser, so simply clearch browser cache, it should help
This happened to me when I had a master view that would load partial views depending on which partial view the user wanted to see, but the answer from this page helped, https://forums.asp.net/t/1763494.aspx?applying+CSS+layouts+to+a+partial+view
CSS must be referenced in the of the Html document. As a
consequence you cannot include them in a partial view...because in
such case the css is included in the Html body. Please plce the style
sheet in head of the page that hosts the partial view.
I would have css links in my partial views and any modifications to the css files would never happen, even if I pressed Ctrl-F5 in the browser. I also tried clearing cache contents in the developer tools. I noticed by viewing the source stylesheets that the css files linked by the partial views were not changing, so the fix for me was to move the css links from the partial view to the main view where these partial views were to be held.
I had something similar happening to me.
Then suddenly noticed the bundle was added to the page:
#Styles.Render("/bundles/classifiedDetailCss")
instead of:
#Styles.Render("~/bundles/classifiedDetailCss")
Note the missing ~ character in the first example.
(The first example only worked after building the project, otherwise it would return a cached version even in debug mode.)
This can help solve this issues in both dev and production.
