I am running Visual Studio for Mac Preview v17.4 with MAUI workload, but when I try to run the hello world app on my iOS 15 device I get an error to downgrade to a lower version but I can't do so in the project build settings because the only available version is 16.
Any ideas how to add iOS 15 build targets to VS for Mac MAUI?
There's a bug right now where the simulator dropdown is reading from the Info.plist file. Add an entry into your Info.plist file for the following property https://developer.apple.com/documentation/bundleresources/information_property_list/minimumosversion that matches the Minimum OS Version you've selected for your iOS target. You might have to restart vsmac or unload/reload your project. After doing this your lower version simulators should show up.
I beleive you have Xcode 14 . So download Xcode 13.4.1 version and select this Xcode in the path to see the simulators coming back. For now .netmaui is not completely supporting xcode 14. They are working to target Xcode 14. For now jus downgrade Xcode version below 14.

I updated my XCode to XCode 13 for make test my Xamarin.iOS app on ios 15 devices. I updated visual studio for mac app to version 8.10.9
After this updating, I opened my app in visual studio for mac but when I try to choose devices, I can't see devices. There is only a message that: "Lower the 'Deployment Target' to see older simulators or check your Apple SDK path"
I tried to change deployment target and I checked Apple SDK path from Preferences/SDK Locations/Apple/Apple SDK. I tried to set path both "/Applications/Xcode.app" and "/Applications/Xcode.app/". But none of them didn't worked for me. What sould I do?
Thanks in advance.
Just experienced the same issue after auto update to Xcode 14. Downgrading to Xcode 13.4.1 fixed the issue.
More information about Xamarin.iOS support with Xcode 14 here
There isn't a Xcode 13 compatible version of Visual Studio for Mac/Xamarin.iOS released yet. It should be here soon, but if you need it to work now, go over to the Apple Developer portal and download the latest Xcode 12 version and (re)install that.
More information can be found here.
I experienced the same error in Oct 2022 with XCode 13.3.1 installed on an M1 Air with Monterey macOS 12.3.1.
Visual Studio Community 2022 for Mac, Version 17.3.5 (build 0)
This is a project several years old that I've not worked on for over a year. The deployment target in the info.plist is 9.3.
I have no problems building a new Xamarin Forms project and running on the simulator.
The SDK Locations panel says:
XCode 13.3.1 found at the system location (xcode-select)
/Applications/Xcode.app
After satisfying myself that a basic new project worked, I applied the simple classic technique of deleting the obj and bin folders for the core and iOS projects. That fixed it and I was able to build and run on the simulator.
I getting the following error when I run the app into device.
This iPhone 7 (Model 1660, 1778, 1779, 1780) is running iOS 12.3.1 (16F203), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode.
my Xcode is 10.1
Your current version of Xcode does not support the iOS 12.3.1 version of the SDK.
There are a couple of options available:
Update Xcode to the latest version
Download a add the required device support files to your current version.
You can download the support files here or from the Apple Developer website. There is also instructions on where to place the files once downloaded
There may be problems with running your app on latest XCode version, but you can add supported devices to your current XCode's folder.
download version of required iOS from https://github.com/filsv/iPhoneOSDeviceSupport
Put it to Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport inside of XCode folder
Restart XCode
I have the same problem , and here is the solution worked for me
You should make a folder named 12.3 (... what is written in your error message) in Program/Xcode-beta/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platforms/DeviceSupport/ and copy the files from 12.2 in there.
Close xcode completely and reopen it.
Now you can run your apps on iOS 12.3.
Temporary solution for this change folder named 12.3.1.its working for me once we get 12.3.1 package content we will move corresponding place
You should update your XCode to support all listed devices.
For anyone who encounters this problem on Device with iOS 14 and Xcode 11.5 Version
_Download iOS 14.0 Zip from this link:
https://github.com/filsv/iPhoneOSDeviceSupport
_and past the folder to:
Xcode/Show Package Content/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
_Quit and Restart both XCode and iPhone
_In XCode go to:
Window/Device and Simulator and Click on + Button
Select your device
Click Next and Click Done, and then build and run your XCode
Note: You can also clear your cache before the build and run your XCode
Hope this helps who faces this problem, cheers.
Apparently, with the latest IOS update, my version of Xcode could not build due to the following error.
Could not locate device support files. This iPhone 7 Plus (Model 1661, 1784, 1785, 1786) is running iOS 11.3 (15E216), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode.
Tried to install Xcode 9.3 via this link https://developer.apple.com/download/more/. But as it turns out, my Mac OS version sees the update as an incompatible version. Running on Sierra 10.12.6
Another option is to download the 11.3 device support at:
iOS 11.3 (15E217)
And don't forget to remove "(15E217)" from folder name, so it became "11.3". Restart Xcode afterwards.
Where to paste it according to comment of EdwardM
For those that don't know where to paste the contents of the zipped file. Find your Applications icon in the dock, right-click, "Open Applications". The folder will open in Finder. Right-click Xcode > Show Package Contents. Then go to Developer > Platforms > iPhoneOS.platform > DeviceSupport
I have the same problem, OS Sierra trying to run iPhone SE with 10.3 using Xcode 9.2 and I don't have the resources to update to High Sierra and Xcode 9.3.
Solution:
Find your friends who have Xcode 9.3
Ask them to right click on Xcode, Show Package Contents then navigate to Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/11.3 (15E217)
Copy the 11.3 (15E217) folder to your old Xcode (9.2) with the same file hierarchy
Now you have Xcode 9.2 with iOS 11.3.
I just give you a device support file for iOS 11.4 (15F79).
which just on XCode version 9.4 (9F1027a)
Updated on 5 Oct 2018:
Xcode 10.0 (10A255) - iOS 12.0 (16A366) [Updated 21 Sep: #Nik
Burns confirmed that works]
Xcode 10.1 beta 2 (10O35n) - iOS 12.1 (16B5068g) [Please give me feedback if that works]
I have macOS 10.12.6
You can download Xcode 9.3 from https://developer.apple.com/download/
and extract the "11.3 (15E217)" folder from it
The fix really works.
please add both of "11.3 (15E216)" and "11.3 (15E217)"
keep all of them inside /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform
I recently stumbled upon the same problem, where I basically updated my iPhone X to the newest OS version, and (for reasons I will not go into) had to run the app on Xcode 9.2.
This thread was helpful, but there's one small caveat that even though I downloaded the newest support files from the provided Github project, and put them in the appropriate folder, I was still getting this error:
Say for example you’ve downloaded 11.4 (15F79) but after restarting and running again you get an error mentioning something like 11.4.1 (15G77).
The solution, as I wrote here, was to just rename the folder (so, rename 11.4 (15F79) to 11.4.1 (15G77)), restart Xcode and voila, it works!
Hope this helps someone 👍
I have macOS 10.13.4
I downloaded Xcode 9.3
Here you have the "11.3 (15E217)" it's work fine.
Quicker/Smaller Fix
This is probably due to outdated Xcode, if you don't want a big Xcode update due to limited storage/time then you can manually download the required support files instead of the whole update.
Download the files (depend on iOS veersion) from here
And then paste the downloaded files in below directory /Applications/Xcode/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
I have a MacBook with El Capitan installed on it. I cannot upgrade to sierra! Because of that, I cannot install XCode 8.3.
Now I need to test an App with iOS 10.3 but I cannot build it with XCode 8.2.1 for iOS 10.3. I have an pyhsical device with iOS 10.3 but XCode wont let me run it on that device.
What to do now?
Doing so is still possible with this simple workaround:
Download the latest Xcode
Right click on the downloaded Xcode.app, select Show Package Contents. Navigate to Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport subfolder
Move the 10.3 folder to the identical location in your local Xcode 8.2.1 installation
Don't get disappointed. There is one way.
If you have access any of the mac that is running the latest xcode and up to date simulators, then navigate to this directory copy the simulators you need and past it on the same directory in your OSX.
You can then be able to run the app on the latest simulator and the updated physical device!
/Applications/Xcode8.3.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform
Unfortunately, you're out of luck. As this answer specifies, iOS 10.3 requires Xcode 8.3 or greater, which in turn requires macOS Sierra.
I have 2 XCodes installed on my Mac say Xcode 6.1 and Xcode 5.1. I use Xcode 6.1 iOS for development. For some bugs raised in iOS 7 I am in the need of iOS 7 simulator. Do I download Xcode 7 simulator When I have my iOS 7.1 simulator with my Xcode 5.1, or Would Xcode 6.1 will work When I copy my simulator from 5.1 to 6.1 ?
If that is possible tell me how?
Tnx in advance
For iOS version greater then 13
/Applications/OldXcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs
Copy the simulator sdk you want, and paste it on the same path as above in another XCode version and rename sdk according to version.
Like For example i have version 13.3 i have to copy it to new xcode with version 13.4
Following will be the final path /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator13.3.sdk
Also copy the runtime iOS.simruntime from
/Applications/OldXcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles
or
/Applications/OldXcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes
and paste it to the following path
/Users/waqasahmed/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles
or
/Users/waqasahmed/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes
and rename it according to the version like for version 13.3 it will be iOS 13.3.simruntime
Open path:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs
copy the simulator sdk you want, and paste it on the same path as above in another XCode version.
You need to install the necessary simulators in each version of Xcode separately. Can use Xcode>Preference> Downloads option.
It is not possible to use the iOS 6 simulator runtime in new Xcode 7. The iOS 6 simulator runtime is not compatible with the new CoreSimulator architecture.
