I'm trying to add a QUERY by copying the individual formatting of each cell from one worksheet to another. Someway? thank you!
unfortunately, this is not possible to do with QUERY or any other formula. using a script is the only option you have.
transferring multiple individual colors from in-one-cell to another cell is not possible at this current version of the Google Sheets (nor at any previous versions):

I want to calculate averages in a column but only on selected rows, depending on specific values in another column. I see that I should probably use AVERAGEIF or AVERAGEIFS, but somehow it does not work, not even if I copy and paste the example from Google's help. I did experience the same in multiple browsers and with both versions of the function. What can be the problem?
Do you need to adjust the formula for your locale?
=AVERAGEIFS(A1:A10;B1:B10;">20")
I am creating a home budget for myself in Google Sheets, working in Chrome on Windows 10. In the end, the budget will be composed of separate sheets for each month, containing tables for each Friday (payday) within that month. All such tables will follow a certain format and will pull arrays of budget data from an auxiliary sheet.
However, trial-and-error (mostly error) is abundant, and one quails at the thought of having to paste corrections across 52 tables. Is there any way to have each table emulate a formula set down in a template? For example, ideally, my template would contain something like:
=INDEX(IF(condition(relativeCell),namedRange1,namedRange2)
and the final product would pull that formula (with relative reference) to each table. If I discover a mistake or need to make a change, I can simply change the template, and all of the live tables would update their formulas.
Can this be done in Google Sheets?
Failing that, I already have a function that returns a cell's formula as string text. Can this be used to get the desired effect?
there is a formula called INDIRECT which does exactly that:

I don't know if what I wrote in the title is specific enough to what I'm looking for, anyway, I'll try and explain as much as possible here.
I have two sheets, one is the layout, the other is the database.
The layout is a layout of computers in an office, and in the database I have various information about those computers (e.g. manufacturer, processor, etc).
What I'm looking for is a way to change the colors of the cells in the layout sheet based on the data in the 'db' sheet.
This is the first sheet, where numbers are the ID's of the computers.
On the second sheet, I have more information about each number.
This is from the second sheet, the 'db' sheet.
What I'm trying to do here is change the colors of the cells in the first sheet based on information on the second sheet and based on the dropdown selected.
For example, in the pictures above, I have chosen 'computer' which needs to change the color of the cells based on the manufacturer given in the second sheet.
I would've posted a formula that I'm currently working on, but the problem is I'm very new to conditional formatting and currently am completely stumped on this problem.
Thanks in advance.
This might not be exactly what you're looking for but it's on the right path. I'm not sure if "Dell" and "HP" are supposed to be dynamic results of the data validation or? Either way...
=AND(VLOOKUP(C2:C,INDIRECT("Sheet2!A2:B"),1)=C2:C,VLOOKUP(C2:C,INDIRECT("Sheet2!A2:B"),2)="Dell",$D$3="computer")
and
=AND(VLOOKUP(C2:C,INDIRECT("Sheet2!A2:B"),1)=C2:C,VLOOKUP(C2:C,INDIRECT("Sheet2!A2:B"),2)="HP",$D$3="computer")
Be sure to reference C:K in the Conditional Formatting Rules. That way you can avoid having to repeat the process for each column.
The spreadsheet has many pages and more pages will be added in the future and I don't know the names of these future added. I can't just do:
=countif(Tab1!A:Z,Value1)+countif(Tab2!A:Z,Value1)+countif(Tab3!A:Z,Value1)...
because I don't know the names of these tabs to be added.
Is there a way to count the occurrences on new sheets without explicitly adding them in such a formula?
It seems that this can not be achieved using a formula. It must be written as a script. You can see an example at this question: COUNTIF Statements: Range Across All Sheets + Cell Reference as Criterion
I'm not sure if what you're trying to do is possible. But, I can help you with the getting the spreadsheet pages/sheets name part.
By using this sheets projection:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/worksheets/{spreadsheetId}/public/basic
you'll be able to get the list of all spreadsheet pages in xml format.
Is it possible to nest simple programs within a Google Sheets, similar to how you would with Visual Basic for Applications in Excel? Or alternatively a simple = syntax using regex, if there is a way to do that in Google Sheets?
I want to take a list of multiple names (name1, name2, name3) in a single cell from across multiple identical sheets and transpose them to another sheet within the same spreadsheet, check for duplicates and ignore capitals, etc. Is there a way to do this?
You are asking for an easy answer to a composite problem. To solve this, I would split the job into separate chunks:
Split the input cell content into
different cells. As it is unclear
how this format is, I cannot advice
on any specific method. Check out
ImportRange function or similar.
Transpose them. use =TRANSPOSE(area)
Remova duplicates, use =UNIQUE(area)
Check the Google Spreadsheet function list for details.
Nest them: =UNIQUE(TRANSPOSE(A1:C15)).
LOWER cannot be used in this nest as it works with only text input, not array input. Although you can use it for the first input cell.
