I'm trying to implement a feature over on Android, basically, on the web, you can use googlegmail:///co?to=email to open a compose view on the native Gmail app.
googlegmail:/// doesn't seem to work on Android and I'm really unsure if this type of functionality is possible on Android. Even if it exists for some other app, it would be great to get a working example on Android! Any clarity would be appreciated.
On Android you need to use an Intent, which is what allows you to start other apps.

So, my team has been working on our Flutter app, trying to get a few of the deep links we created to open a website. And everything worked out fine...until we tried it on iOS devices. For iOS devices, the deep link behaves correctly only when typed out in the address bar, but when it's tapped on, be it in a TODO list, or through SMS messages, it takes you immediately to the installed app.
These behaviors, however, only occur for all URLs of the same host, for example:
https://foo.page.link/some-suffix
https://foo.page.link/baz/some-other-suffix
etc. you get the idea
Apparently, it's something to do with how iOS handle URL prefixes. This answer provides the best explanation and solutions I have found so far. However, these feel more like workarounds than solutions that would allow us to config our links like we did with Android. I'm asking here because the answer itself is almost two years old and there might already be simpler solutions out there.

My question is regarding using this functionality in React Native. Building an app in React Native is it possible to access this setAlternateIconName method and provide the user with alternate app icons? Does React Native provide a nice way to interact with this IOS method?
I am currently trying to build this out. This package seems designed to do what we both are looking for, but I haven't tried on anything that I have actually deployed yet.

I have created an cordova iOS app and wanted to add universal links support to it with a custom domain. Means I don't have any web server to configure my app association file . But still i need to support my app to handle a custom domain link like abc.com/path/* . abc.com doesn't exist but i need to handle this links in my ios app. Same is working fine in Android. any custom non existing domain links are working fine in android. but the same is not the case for ios. Can some one please help me in this how can i achieve this.

No, it will not work. You need to host the apple-app-site-association file on that domain in order to prove ownership of the domain.
Otherwise, iOS wouldn't be able to prevent your app from hijacking e.g. twitter.com.
Custom URL Scheme solved my problem. used cordova-plugin-customurlscheme plugin and configured my custom url schema.
I have a cordova app which uses the AppAvailability Plugin (https://www.npmjs.com/package/cordova-plugin-appavailability) and I have to find out if a specific app is installed. Its easy on Android, since I just know the packagename, but on IOS I have to know the URI Scheme or the DeepLink (eg. myapp://).
But I just seems to not be able to find out how to get it. Example is the asos.com.au website and their app. The Package name is 'com.asos.app', so that part is solved.
But if you go on the website (or in my usecase, if you are forwarding to their website) it opens the app if is available. And if it is available I want to have my app know that it wont redirect to the website (this is actually pretty important).
So, on IOS I have to know this URI Scheme.
Any Ideas?

I am working with my web developers that are stuck on a problem with a Web-app we are creating.
The webapp works great, you add the website to your home screen on the ipad, open it and use the website within the webapp interface outside of safari.
The issue is that we have one function that doesnt work, where when clicking a URL link within mobile safari, it calls an external app (Optiscan- a qr code reader), and then when scanning the code, then returns you to Mobile safari.
The question is - is there a way to call a URL that will open an external app, from within a webapp? Similar to how it would work from mobile safari?
If so - i am then wondering if an app can be written that calls the webapp to open. For example if i needed the QR code reader to then re-open the web app and pass it the QR code.

In iOS, native Apps can define Custom URL Schemes. If you know the scheme of an App, you can simply open it by clicking on a link like Launch Facebook App. This should launch the Facebook App for iOS if installed.
There was a crowd-sourced list of known URL schemes on akosma.com but they seem to have some problems and the list is not available as of writing this. If the URL scheme of the App you need to open is not public, try contacting the developer and ask for it. I'm sure if you ask kindly, he will help you ;-)
Edit: Almost forgot to say, opening Apps like this won't return to your Web-App magically. That's something the developer of said App would have to implement.
Edit 2: I found another website that has many custom URL schemes in it's database: http://handleopenurl.com. It does not have a URL scheme for Optiscan but for other QR Readers, maybe this will help you.
