I have been given a task to upload a file and store it in a different location. And I need to return a seed file which should be used to retrieve the file again.
I'm done with all sorts of things but I can't get "what is a seed file and how can generate it and how can I retrieve the file later with that"
can someone help me with this?

Not sure of your context, but seed is usually a file (or a template) that contains some default values to begin with.

I am looking for some help on how to create a trailer record in a flat file using SSIS, I have create a SSIS package that creates a custom header and loads other record from the database into the flat file, it is a fixed width flat file. Now at the end of the file I want to create a Trailer Record along with some static text and Record count. I tried looking on to google but could not get any good example. Use a Script Task. Take the file path of the fixed width flat file that you have obtained as a input variable. Once withing the script task use the .Net coding to append the data that you need. I'm trying to use the simplestorage from my extension, but I can't retrieve values between browser sessions. Here's the thing: From my main code, I created a value this way:

This is ok, I coud see the object through the log. But then I closed the browser, commented the "foo definition" (line 2) and the console log was "undefined".
I know cfx run by default uses a fresh profile each time it runs, so simple storage won't persist from one run to the next. But I'm using
cfx -b firefox run --profiledir=$HOME/.mozilla/firefox/nightly.ext-dev
So I'm sure I'm using the same profile everytime.
What could be happening? What am I missing? Any idea is welcome! Thanks in advance!
Thanks to the answer of Notidart, I could discover that the problem was the file is saved when you close Firefox in the right way. When you just kill it through console, it's not persisting data.

The exact location of the file made is in a your profile folder, in a folder named jetpack then your addon id, then a folder called simple-storage, then in a file in that folder called store.json. Example path:
ProfD/jetpack/addon-id/simple-storage/store.json
It then writes data to that file. Every time your profile folder is recreated (due to the nature of temp profile, due to jpm / cfx), your data is erased.
You should just use OS.File to create your own file to save data. OS.File is better way then nsIFile which is what simple-storage does. Save it outside that ProfD folder, so but make sure to remove it on uninstall of your addon otherwise you pollute your users computers
Just in case someone else finds this question while using jpm, note that --profiledir is removed from jpm, so to make jpm run using the same profile directory (and thereby the same simple-storage data), you have to run it with the --profile option pointing at the profile path - not the profile name.
jpm run --profile path/to/profile
For future readers, an alternative to #Noitidart's recommendation of using OS.File, is to use the Low-Level API io/file
You can create a file using fileIO.open(path). If the file doesn't exist, it will be created. You can read and write by including the second argument fileIO.open(path, mode).
The mode can be:
r - Read-only mode
w - Write-only Mode
b - Binary mode
It defaults to r. You can use this to read and write to a file (obviously the file cannot be in the ProfD folder or it will get removed each time jpm / cfx is run)
I have a series of folders that all have files I need linked to the database (via there file path). One option I could do is manually insert all the file paths into my database, however, this can be painful as the number of folders will keep increasing and manual uploading will take too much time.
Is there a way to write a ruby helper function that will search these folders and automatically add the path to the files into a column in my database?
All the file paths have a recognizable pattern, for example:
Tel/a_1/poi1/names.csv
Tel/a_2/poi1/names.csv
Tel/a_3/poi1/names.csv
I need a function that will occupy a field in my database with the path of each of these names.csv files. Very new to ruby and rails, so any help is greatly appreciated. Also, please let me know if anything is unclear.
Something like this should give u all the filenames in the folder, for you to manipulate:

* update attribute of your model with the path of the file
end

I have a static string array of Cities, States, Categories, etc that is accessed by my application in various places. Where should I put this? In a yml file someplace or a rb file in the lib directory?

Basically, put constants in /config/initializers in a .rb file.

So this is not really constant data since "once a couple of months" the info will change. In that case you should put the info in the database and cache it. The caching will prevent round trips to the database and you can expire the cache when you need to update the info.
I advise you to put this in config/locales/*.yml files. It's good because you can specify different city names for different languages. See internationalization guide for more information.
I have an XML file containing data and I can easily parse it to insert the data into my rails database. The only problem is - in which directory should the file go into ("public" seems wrong, since the initial data in the database should not be public), and how do I refer to that file in the seeds.rb file (i.e. what prefix will guarantee that that file will be found).
This is a somewhat silly question but I haven't touched rails for a time now and they keep changing the directory structure...
I'd simply put the file in a folder like /db/data_source because seeds.rb lives in /db so it keeps overall logic.
You can reference any file using:
"#{Rails.root}/path/to/file"
