So I want to install packages locally using npm from docker but how do I specify the image?
I tried doing following:
docker run --rm -v $(pwd):/app npm install
If I understand you correctly, you can use the node image. The node image usually runs in the root directory, so you need to change into the /app directory first. Something like this
docker run --rm -v $(pwd):/app node /bin/bash -c "cd /app && npm install"
Related
Docker version 20.10.21
docker run command with -v option works as expected when the destination path is other than /app. But when the destination path is /app it doesn't work as expected.
command works as expected:
docker run -d -v ${pwd}:/app2 react-app
command not works as expected:
docker run -d -v ${pwd}:/app react-app
as seen in the snapshot there is not port for the second container
here is Dockerfile content
FROM node:14.16.0-alpine3.13
RUN addgroup app && adduser -S -G app app
USER app
WORKDIR /app
RUN mkdir data
COPY package*.json .
RUN npm install
COPY . .
ENV API_URL=http://api.myapp.com/
EXPOSE 3000
CMD [ "npm", "start" ]
You are running npm install in /app in the Dockerfile, but then at runtime you are mounting pwd over the files you installed in /app during the build process. Don't install your dependencies in /app during the build if you want to mount to /app at runtime.
Please try using $(pwd) instead of ${pwd}. Also if you are running it under Windows then you probably need to use some shell which implements pwd command correctly. E.g. Git Bash.
docker run -d -v $(pwd):/app react-app
Also once you start the container please check docker container inspect <container ID>, specifically Mounts section.
Or you can filter the output:
docker container inspect <container ID> -f '{{ .Mounts }}'
Also if you see that container exits immediately, please check its logs with
docker logs <container ID>
I solved it by excluding the node_modules from the mounting as:
docker run -d -v ${pwd}:/app -v /app/node_modules react-app
I created a Docker like:
FROM rikorose/gcc-cmake
RUN git clone https://github.com/hect1995/UBIMET_Challenge.git
WORKDIR /UBIMET_Challenge
RUN mkdir build
WORKDIR build
#RUN apt-get update && apt-get -y install cmake=3.13.1-1ubuntu3 protobuf-compiler
RUN cmake ..
RUN make
Afterwards I do:
docker build --tag trial .
docker run -t -i trial /bin/bash
Then I run an executable that saves a .png file inside the container.
How can I visualize the image?
You can execute something inside the container.
To see all containers you can run docker ps --all.
To execute something inside container you can run docker exec <container id> command.
Otherwise you can copy files from container to host, with docker cp <container id>:/file-path ~/target/file-path
Please mount a localhost volume(directory) with container volume(directory) in where you are saving your images.
now all of your images saved in container directory will be available in host or localhost mount directory. From there you can visualize or download to another machine.
Please follow this
docker run --rm -d -v host_volume_or-directory:container_volume_direcotory trial
docker exec -it container_name /bin/bash
I have a very simple Docker image that should contain both NodeJS and OpenJDK (to build Cordova apps).
So far so good, all works well, the versions are correct and the command line knows all the binaries.
But when I use a multi-stage build, the last image from Alpine is unable to find the APK command (the package manager), and I need it.
My current Dockerfile is
FROM node:current-slim AS node
COPY --from=openjdk:latest . .
FROM alpine:latest
COPY --from=node . .
ENV JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/openjdk-14
WORKDIR /usr/src/app
RUN npm i -g #angular/cli cordova
CMD ["bash"]
When I try to run
apk add unzip
The error bash: apk: command not found pops up.
Running
docker run -it --rm alpine:latest
Allows me to use APK.
It seems the binaries are overriden and I cannot use them anymore.
Is there a way of doing this ? (I'm quite new to Docker)
My requirements are for the following commands to work without any error when running docker run -it --rm --name myContainer myImage :
npm -v
node -v
java -version
apk --help
I have a shell script which creates and executes docker containers using docker run command. I want to keep this script in a docker image and want to run this shell script. I know that we cannot run docker inside a container. Is it possible to create a docker file to achieve this?
Dockerfile:
FROM ubuntu:latest
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y vim-gnome curl
RUN curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xyz/abx/test/testing/testing_docker.sh -o testing_docker.sh
RUN chmod +x testing_docker.sh
CMD ["./testing_docker.sh"]
testing_docker.sh:
docker run -it docker info (sample command)
In the Dockerfile builder, ENTRYPOINT and CMD run in one time by using /bin/sh -c in back.
Are there any simple solution to run two command inside without extra script
In my case, I want to setup docker in docker in jenkins slave node, so I pass the docker.sock into container, and I want to change the permission to be executed by normal user, so it shall be done before sshd command.
The normal is like jenkins, which will be login into container via ssh command.
$ docker run -d -v /var/run/docker.sock:/docker.sock larrycai/jenkins-slave
In larrycai/jenkins-slave Dockerfile, I hope to run
CMD chmod o+rw /docker.sock && /usr/sbin/sshd -D
Currently jenkins is given sudo permission, see larrycai/jenkins-slave
I run docker in docker in jenkins slave:
First: my slave know run docker.
Second: I prepare one docker image who knows run docker in docker. See one fragment of dockerfile
RUN echo 'deb [trusted=yes] http://myrepo:3142/get.docker.io/ubuntu docker main' > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list
RUN apt-get update -qq
RUN apt-get install -qqy iptables ca-certificates lxc apt-transport-https lxc-docker
ADD src/wrapdocker /usr/local/bin/wrapdocker
RUN chmod +x /usr/local/bin/wrapdocker
VOLUME /var/lib/docker
Third: The jenkins job running in this slave contain one .sh file with a set of command to run over app code like:
export RAILS_ENV=test
# Bundle install
bundle install
# spec_no_rails
bundle exec rspec spec_no_rails -I spec_no_rails
bundle exec rake db:migrate:reset
bundle exec rake db:test:prepare
etc...
Fourth: one run shell step job with something like this
docker run --privileged -v /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro -v `pwd`:/code myimagewhorundockerindocker /bin/bash -xec 'cd /code && ./myfile.sh'
--privileged necessary for run docker in docker
-v /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro for synchronize host clock vs container clock
-v pwd:/code for share jenkins workspace (app-code) previously cloned from VCS with /code inside container
note: If you have service dependencies you can use fig with similar strategy.
