How to Install .ipa File on XCode iOS Simulator - ios

I have downloaded an .ipa file from an iOS developer for our project.
I need to test the app on my simulator because I don't have a physical device, but I don't know how to.
how to install the .ipa file to XCode iOS Simulator? I have been read the difference between emulator and simulator, which the .ipa only able installed on real device and emulator while the .app only able installed on simulator. The emulator also mimic the real device's hardware and software while simulator only mimic the software and interface. If those differences above are true, does anyone know how to convert the .ipa to working .app file? I have been tried changed the .ipa to .zip by rename it then extract it and last, drag and drop the .app file (in the payload folder after extracted) to my simulator but failed, the message is "Please update the app". I also tried the command xcrun simctl install but failed. Currently, I am using the Mac with Big Sur and XCode 12. I can't download the project because the project size is very big and my internet too slow for download it, Thank you all

Since you have the ability to run the simulator, You have the ability to have Xcode installed.
Rather than have the developer send you the IPA file, you could get access to the source code for your project (usually this is on a Git service provider) download the source and build the app to the simulator directly.
In a well set up project it shouldn't be hard to clone the repository, maybe run some configuration, then open Xcode and build to the simulator

I have the same problem, and refer to that link before. it seems noway but to buy an iphone test device...

How to install IPA in ios simulator?

I build one .ipa after using Xcode archive then distribute as ad hoc
Normally I copy this to a real ios device but today it is failing, says "failed to install"
The problem is that using xcode -> window -> Devices and simulators
does not show me the running simulator.
I have one running ios simulator but i cannot see it there so don't know how to copy my ipa into it
It is my understanding that .ipa's are only meant for physical devices. For the simulator I think you need to use the .app file. You might have to unzip something first.
Hope it helps

How to build .ipa and install it on iphone form xcode?

I have installed MacOS 10.12 Using VMware and successfully implemented Ionic 2 app for IOS. I have also generated an .ipa file using the following method:
Clean your project.
Build your project.
Go to products menu -> select build for -> select Profiling.
In project navigator, find your .app product.
Right click on it and click show in finder.
There you will find folder named "Release-iphoneos", in
this folder you will find your .app extension file.
Create a
folder named "Payload", copy that .app file in this folder.
Archive your folder.
After archive, rename your folder to name of
your app and change its extension from ".zip" to ".ipa"
Your ipa is ready for sharing.
From the above technique I got my .ipa file. Then, to install this app on iPhone i am using www.diawi.com . Now the problem is, when i am installing app from my safari browser on iphone download issue is showing. My internet connection is all good. I can also see the installation process on my iphone but app is not installing.
Note: I don't have Apple developer program. I need to build and install this app for testing in different iPhones.
Please suggest any other way to install my app on iPhone or another technique to build and share the app. My configuration is as follows:
Mac OS - 10.12 Sierra(VM-ware machine), Xcode- 8.3.3.
I tried so many articles but not sure where am i getting wrong. please suggest.
For that you will need to be enrolled with the Apple developer program (99$ a year). There is no other way.
Or you need to install it manually by plugging the iPhone in the computer and running the code in XCode (keep in mind that the default certificate will let your app run for 7 days then it will get expired)
to make .ipa file Archive your project and export your binary as developent or deployment.
You can install your .ipa file manually.Connect your iPhone with your computer and drag .ipa file in your iPhone application folder.

How to get an iOS app build for appium testing?

I wanted to setup iOS testing on simulator on my MacBook-pro. Im using appium 1.6 and Xcode 8 and iOS 10.1 as simulator OS. I ran my appium server and set the desired capabilities and used an .ipa from the app store and it crashes on launch while doing an inspect on appium. Is it happening because i don't have a app signed for development? what are the requirements for the app to be tested for using? Do i need signed apps to be used for testing on simulator too ?
You can create a .app file useing the belowing instruction:
1- Go to:
xcode > File > New Project > (select ios at top bar) select Tabbed Application > click Next > give project name and select swift as language and complete process.
2- Open the project and run it. After running the app in the simulator, you will find the project .app file in the product folder (expand your project in xcode > product.
you can use this .app file for your appium test.
3- You can also get a lot of free .xcode project on the web. download this project, open the .xcodeproj or .xcworkspace file in xcode and run it. you will find the .app file in the product folder
if you want to run your ios app in the simulator, you need a .app file, not .ipa file. The .ipa file runs on the device. Try to generate a .app file for simulator.
Yes, you need apps to be signed with a developer provisiioning profile. You can use the iresign to do it. you should input your ipa file developer provisioning file(contact your dev) and click resign. It will output the resigned app
The same dev provisioning file, dev certificate should be installed in your mac from where you run your scripts.
Note: you cannot run .ipa on simulators. you need .app version of the app , for which you need to contact the developer too

Wirelessly install app from XCode on (jailbroken) iDevice

I build my app for iPhone (without code-signing, with help of Jailcoder utility). How to install it on my jailbroken device over Wi-Fi? I need only to install it, without running/debugging from XCode.
As an approach I tried to pack it as IPA and download in Installous, but installation failed with unexpected content error message.
Is there a working method?
I found basic instructions for transferring IPA's to jailbroken iPhones over WiFi here: http://www.ehow.com/how_12098417_send-ipa-ipod-touch.html
Cheers!
I solved it via Installous. Previously the build was not configured for my device and thats why there was an error.
Steps:
archive build in XCode (Product->Archive)
reveal the archive folder in finder, get app folder from it
place app folder into Payload folder and compress this all
change extension from .zip to .ipa
in Installous get device IP adress, than enter it in desktop browser
upload ipa file
You can do it by generating a build, transferring it to your device using sftp, and then installing it on the device by using installipa. Here is a tutorial i wrote on it.

rebuild ipa file using appcelerator

I'm using Titanium Appcelerator to build an iPad app. I have my iPad provisioned and everything, however when I try to run the app on "iOS Device" from the Appcelerator menu it opens up iTunes and tries to install / sync the app on the iPad. The problem with this is that the computer I"m using to develop is not the main computer for the iPad, so I don't want it to sync. I'm using the iphone configuration utility, and just going through the titanium workspace until I find the .app or .ipa. I am using TestFlight to beta test, and import the ipa into that and it sends it off to a few devices. The problem is, I updated the app in appcelerator, but the .ipa (or .app) file never updated. Is there a way to do a fresh build so it will regenerate the .ipa file? Also is there a way to run the app from the computer (while it's plugged in) so you can still use the log and info terminal using titanium?
Thanks!
In version 1.7.x of Titanium, The .ipa of your app will be in the build/iphone/build/Debug-iphoneos directory of your Titanium project - that is what you can (and are) uploading to TestFlight. To force a rebuild, just delete everything in the build/iphone directory (including subdirectories) and do a 'Run on Device' build it again. This will give you a fresh build and fresh ipa.
If you are using the new Titanium Studio and have paid to be a Indie developer, it should have the ability run your application on your device, but I haven't tested it.
Before Titanium Studio, I rolled my own tracer that I can turn on and off. Details are here.
