More compressed version of ppm or bmp? - image-processing
I am adding a layer over my video stream with custom drawn graphics, but when I save the drawn layer for my current frame I have a pretty big file (~10MB). When analyzing the data, it's mostly 0's (representing the actual pixels of the video and not the drawn layer). I understand that PPM and BMP files will inherently be pretty sizable files, but is there a way to handle the repetitiveness of 0's? Is there a different file format I should be checking out?
Here's a "blocky", computer graphics type of overlay with 1182x862 pixels.
Here are the sizes it come out as in the other formats you might like to try:

Be aware that they all have some tradeoffs. Whilst PNG is smallest, it is likely to take longer to write. GIF acquits itself pretty well, but will do poorly if you have too many colours. PCX is a bit archaic, but usable. PPM is large and directly proportional in size to your overlay size.
Note that if your overlays really are very blocky, you could consider reducing them to 1/4 their height and width and make them 16x smaller in volume if you can handle a couple of pixels inaccuracy when scaling back up.
You could also consider generating the overlay in a vector format which should be many, many times smaller in size.

That comes up as 14,202 bytes of PNG or 1,348 bytes of SVG - so the vector graphics are a massive 10x smaller!

If you want to experiment yourself with your actual data, try ImageMagick in the Terminal. You can convert from PPM to PNG like this:
magick input.ppm output.png
or from PPM to quarter-height and quarter-width GIF like this:
magick input.ppm -scale 25% result.gif
Note that ImageMagick will not convert to SVG - as it is a raster graphics program, and rasterises everything before it even starts. It will convert from SVG to raster though.

You cannot show .svg images in iOS OS below 13. From Apple's Xcode 12 release notes: Asset Catalogs New Features Added support for Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) image assets. These preserve their vector representation with deployment targets of macOS 10.15 or later, iOS 13 or later, and iPadOS 13 or later. (18389814) However you can use libraries eg: https://github.com/mchoe/SwiftSVG. But this doesn't not gurantee loading all types of svg images.
Image slicing with SVG images not working on Xcode12
Xcode 12 just introduced SVG image support and I've been using them without major problems, however when I tried image slicing the chat bubbles so they stretch correctly depending on the number of characters in the text message, it doesn't seem to work, can't find anything on stackoverflow or apple forum yet so just wondering if anyone knows if it is a known issue or Xcode 12 bug? SVGs with linear gradient not handled by Cordova - iOS
We are implementing icons in our Ionic / Cordova app that uses SVG icons and whenever exported from Adobe XD, and implemented in the iOS version of the app, the gradient part of the icon shows correctly on Web (Chromium based browsers like Edge / Chrome) and Android but not on iOS. This is how the icon looks normally in Chrome/Edge/Android and in XD: And this what the icon looks like once in Cordova - iOS: As you can see, the dot on the icon that has normally a gradient appears black. We cannot figure out why. Most of the icons we use have this gradient in some form or another. And we have other examples of these icons unable to use the gradient in Cordova - iOS version.
So rendering SVG likely has less to do with Cordova, but with specific browser ability to handle SVG. In your case it seems like you apply "gradient" using url(...) reference within css. Safari introduced a requirement for the url in this case to feature "absolute" path. Try the same icon but change the way you refer url from: fill:url(#a) to: fill:url(https://yourwebsite.com/yourpage/#a) Basically you need something like this for Safari: fill: url( {{ location.href }}#filterOrGradientId ) It is a pain to work around this issue. So one suggestion could be also to try referring the gradient using fill attribute on the svg circle element. Why is SVG path occasionally drawn incorrectly in this piechart?
I'm trying to create SVG piecharts in a Rails app. I've written a method that works most of the time, but occasionally produces an odd result. This chart is being built correctly, except for 1 segment! The SVG code that produces that segment is <path d='M0,0 L99.99949084376563,0.3191096796332688 A100,100 0 **0,0** 99.99893303088741,0.46194445996738664 Z' fill='#136F7F' /> And I think the cause of the problem may be the values I've wrapped with ** (The stars are not present in the actual code!). Am I setting the correct large-arc-flag and sweep-flag values, and are these what is causing the occasional segment to fail?
There are 4 possible solution for arcs connecting two points. In the image below the blue arcs are drawn counter clockwise, the green arcs clockwise (sweep flag) the small blue arch is drawn counter clockwise around the center of the green circle the large blue arch is drawn counter clockwise around the center of the bleu circle. the small green arch is drawn clockwise around the center of the blue circle the large green arch is drawn cclockwise around the center of the green circle the darker arcs are small arcs, the lighter arcs are large arcs (large-arc flag) to tell the render which arc you want, you use a combination of large-arc and sweep flag. So you actually have two circular segments overlaid on top of one another. If we draw them separately and with a bit of opacity, you can see what is actually happening. <svg width="400px" height="400px"> <path d="M 59 110 A 167.87197502859138 167.87197502859138 0 0 0 200 301" fill="red" opacity="0.4"/> <path d="M 59 110 A 159.4783762771618 159.4783762771618 0 0 0 200 301" fill="green" opacity="0.4"/> </svg> The reason you are seeing only the difference between the two (the thin half-moon shape) is because you are using the even-odd fill rule. When you use the even-odd fill rule, overlapping subpaths generally create a hole. The thin line you are seeing between the two endpoints is due to artifacts caused by slight differences in anti-aliasing between the two segment edges that are exactly on top of each other. Anti-aliasing is the use of shades of colour to make the edges of lines appear smoother. This is probably happening to some extent on all browsers. It's just more noticeable in Safari for some reason. Fortunately in your case there is an easy fix. Instead of using two subpaths, just combine them into a single path. Have one arc going from rectangle A to B, and then an arc going back to the start point.
