I'm new to using Docker (never used it before) and I'm running into these errors:
I installed the Docker for Windows and following the steps on this
tutorial, but Docker Desktop doesn't load up for me at all.
I tried to run the docker pull hello-world command but I'm getting the error: The system cannot find the file specified. In the default daemon configuration on Windows, the docker client must be run elevated to connect. This error may also indicate that the docker daemon is not running.
How do I fix this? Thanks

I am a beginner at Docker. I need to create two containers for mongo and mongo-express. But, I'm getting an error as error during connect: This error may indicate that the docker daemon is not running.
Then I tried below steps:
I run the cmd as administrator. Then I run the command "C:\Program Files\Docker\Docker\DockerCli.exe" -SwitchDaemon. It didn't work for me. then I tried with 'C:\Program Files\Docker\Docker\DockerCli.exe' -SwitchDaemon way. Then I enabled hypervisor also. Still, I am getting the same error. When I ran the docker version command in cmd I received the below-mentioned outputs:
Then after I tried with cd "C:\Program Files\Docker\Docker" and ./DockerCli.exe -SwitchDaemon separately.
docker info command gives below mentioned error:

errors pretty printing info
Did you install the Docker Desktop on your Windows PC? If not please install it and Run it. If you already installed it, please run it first!
Then you can see whether the docker engine is starting or not!
After the docker engine started check whether this error is still there. Most probably error will fix after doing that!
If the docker engine is not started, please uninstall docker and delete everything from Registry.
Press Win+R and %appdata%\Docker to go and delete all the files.
Then reinstall the docker, if better you can install the docker desktop. Because with the docker desktop, the docker provides a whole bundle with it! Then you will be able to install the docker for windows smoothly.
Because this error usually getting when the docker engine is not started. Also, this may happen missing Linux kernel on windows. Both issues will address with the correct installation of the Docker Desktop.
You can check whether you have a docker Linux subsystem running on your windows pc by running the following command on cmd,
wsl -l
If you get a result like this,
C:\Users\gayan>wsl -l
Windows Subsystem for Linux Distributions:
docker-desktop-data (Default)
docker-desktop
Then you are okay and ready to go.
If not, please try to uninstall and install the docker desktop
Make sure you delete the previous registry, To do that press Win+R and type Regedit Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Docker Inc and delete that folder.
If still you are getting the same error, try to troubleshoot the docker desktop. you can refer to the docker documentation.

You can powerShell as admin.
Run this code:
cd "C:\Program Files\Docker\Docker"
./DockerCli.exe -SwitchDaemon
Running Powershell with elevated access solved my issue.
Usually this error means the Docker daemon that is docker services is not up and running.
Make sure docker is running by issuing below command in power shell in elevated mode.
docker run hello-world
A response as hello from docker will be printed on console.
Else start the docker by double clicking the docker app from start menu.
Below is the snapshot of graphically up and running docker daemon.
On Windows, go to the folder %homepath%\.docker, open daemon.json and if debug is set to true then set it to false.
I had the same error as in the question and after I changed the above it worked again for me. After I got the error, I had been looking at the various docker settings and decided to set debug to false because I don't need any daemon debug info for what I'm doing. I don't know why it was set to true originally.
In my case, although I had the docker service running as admin and the service was shown as running, it was not.
Open the docker desktop app, click on the 'troubleshoot' icon. Check if the service is effectively running (bottom left). If it's not, try to 'clean/purge data', and then restart the service. It worked for me!
Verify it by running docker run hello-world
Fow Windows:
Launch command: "C:\Program Files\Docker\Docker\DockerCli.exe" -SwitchDaemon
This error is because of organisation network certificates which are installed in local machine. Beacuse some companies restricted network by installing certificates.
docker daemon service is not running on my machine and when I start the service, this error us resolved.
I had faced the same error, the following worked for me:
In the windows taskbar, the docker icon was red in color saying Out of Memory...
In the Docker Desktop App, goto
Settings -> Resources -> Disk Image Size -> decrease the space allocated -> Apply & Restart
This did happen to me while i was using docker today for the first time. I fixed by opening up the docker app in the PC and signing and selecting the necessary subscription plan.
Open docker with docker <homepath>. Simply upgrade docker and then run this command
docker-compose up -d
you will be able to solve the specified path error.
docker.errors.DockerException: Error while fetching server API version: (2, 'CreateFile', 'The system cannot find the file specified.')
[14620] Failed to execute script docker-compose
Doing the above solved the error.
Yo,
open docker app > settings > Docker engine > "debug": true,
debug was false initially, after changing it to "true" it worked.
Thanks.
I am currently despairing at the attempt of setting up a docker build step in Atlassian Bamboo.
For starters, I just want to create a build configuration that runs the hello-world image as a proof of confluence. So far, I have failed.
I have tried following the steps on https://confluence.atlassian.com/bamboo0609/using-bamboo/jobs-and-tasks/configuring-tasks/configuring-the-docker-task-in-bamboo , but to no avail.
My setup is this:
We have Bamboo installed on an Ubuntu server. I also installed Docker on that server and added the bamboo user to the docker usergroup and restarted the server to make sure the permission change takes effect. At this point, docker run hello-world works when I run it directly on the server. I can also confirm that this is the server that Bamboo runs on since Bamboo went offline whenever I restarted the server that I installed Docker on.
Then, I have added the docker capability to the server (the agent is the default agent, so it inherits this capability from the server). As the docker path, I have tried various things, none of which worked (aka, the following errors remained the same for each of these):
/snap/docker (the first folder that I found on a manual search)
/usr/bin/docker (the recommended path, though on inspecting the Ubuntu server I quickly found out that no docker folder exists under /usr/bin on the Ubuntu derver)
/var/snap/docker/common/var-lib-docker (the path that Docker returns as its Root Directory when I run docker info on the Ubuntu server)
/var/snap/docker (for good measure)
Now, for the runner, I have tried two different approaches.
First, I tried using a Docker runner with the following settings:
Command: Run a Docker container
Docker image: hello-world
This returns the following error message:
┊
Error occurred while running Task 'Hello World Docker Test(5)' of type com.atlassian.bamboo.plugins.bamboo-docker-plugin:task.docker.cli.com.atlassian.bamboo.task.TaskException: Failed to execute task
┊
Caused by: com.atlassian.bamboo.docker.DockerException: Error running Docker run command
┊
Caused by: com.atlassian.utils.process.ProcessException: Error executing /snap/docker run --volume /var/atlassian/application-data/bamboo/xml-data/build-dir/CAM-DOC-JOB1:/data --workdir /data --rm hello-world
┊
The second was just to run a shell runner for the command docker run hello-world, which returned the following error:
docker: not found
At this point, I feel like I'm out of ideas. Everything points towards Bamboo for some reason not finding Docker on the server, even though I can clearly confirm that it is there. I have tried various different approaches of telling Bamboo where to find Docker, but none of them have worked.
It's obvious that I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Or maybe the problem lies in an entirely different direction altogether? Anyway, I would be grateful for any insight shared on this matter.
Okay, I found out what caused this strange behaviour.
The problem was that I installed Docker using sudo snap install docker, and apparently installing docker via snap causes problems with Bamboo.
So I got it to work using these simple steps:
[Server] Uninstalled Snap Docker using sudo snap remove docker
[Server] Reinstalled Docker using sudo apt install docker.io
[Bamboo] Changed the path to Docker in the Server Capabilities to /usr/bin/docker
After that, the hello-world image build succeeded and printed the expected output to the log.

New to docker and I'm using Windows 7 SP1. It looks like docker is running fine in my machine as I have tried running hello-world by command docker run hello-world as instructed in the tutorial and got expected result. Now all I'm trying to do is create a docker image for a .net core console app. My app built and ran. but while building docker image by command docker build -t myapp . I get the below error
error during connect: Post http://%2F%2F.%2Fpipe%2Fdocker_engine/v1.30/build?buildargs=%7B%7D&cachefrom=%5B%5D&cgroupparent=&cpuperiod=0&c

duke&target=&ulimits=null: open //./pipe/docker_engine: The system cannot find the file specified. In the default daemon configuration on
Windows, the docker client must be run elevated to connect. This error may also indicate that the docker daemon is not running.
Below my Dockerfile
FROM microsoft/dotnet:1.1-runtime-nanoserver
WORKDIR /DotNetConsole
COPY /bin/Debug/netcoreapp1.1/publish/ .
ENTRYPOINT ["dotnet", "DotNetConsole.dll"]
I could get around this problem by starting the "Docker QuickStart Terminal" installed with the docker tools, and running the commands for building the docker images from there.
If I used GIT BASH instead of the Docker QuickStart Terminal to execute the commands, I would get this kind of error. So it seems that if the commands are not executed from the Docker terminal itself, these errors show up.
