Not able to access values from dictionary - ios

I have a dictionary like so..
{
"Due_Date" = "2020-06-09T15:00:13";
departmentID = 180075;
keyPointID = "";
id = 4;
jobID = 180093;
jobName = myLab;
plantID = 1232;
shiftID = 2;
"smat_Leader1ID" = 43232;
workshopID = 423423;
workstationID = 1892074;
}
I'm not able to get any values except those values whose key and value is string (Like Due_Date). I have fetched it like so...
var Due_Date = self.dictionary["Due_Date"]! as? String //This gives an answer
Similarely, if I try to fetch these values, I don't get the values
var Department_ID = self.dictionary["departmentID"]! as? Int ?? 0 //This gives 0
var smatLeader1ID = self.dictionary["smat_Leader1ID"]! as? Int ?? 0 //This gives 0
(I don't get the other values also. Just that I mentioned just 2 above)

Since you're force casting and not getting a crash you seem to be getting the value but you're trying to cast the value as Int which is failing here. Seems the value is not an Int type could be String try out this to fix it.
Replace this:
var Department_ID = self.dictionary["departmentID"]! as? Int ?? 0
With this:
var Department_ID = Int(self.dictionary["departmentID"] as? String ?? "0")

create a dictonary with for loop in swift

I just want to create a dictionary with the help of for loop
sample code :
var counter: Int = 1;
var pageCountDict = [String:Any]();
for filterCount in counter..<6
{
if let count = "page_\(filterCount)_vtime" as? String
{
pageCountDict = [count: timeInterval_Int];
}
}
print(pageCountDict);
This print command give me only last value of forloop
I just want all the value of this variable pageCountDict in a dictonary
The way to assign to a dictionary is first use the subscript and assign the value to it:
pageCountDict[YourKey] = YourValue
Also, you can see many examples and explanations in Apple documentation regarding dictionaries.
With each loop, you are replacing the dictionary with one that contains only one element. What you want to do is this :
pageCountDict[count] = timeInterval_Int
Also, you shouldn't need the as? String part. This should be sufficient :
for filterCount in counter..<6
{
pageCountDict[count] = "page_\(filterCount)_vtime"
}
var pageCountDict = [String:Any]()
You can add values to this dictionary by merging previous contents and new data as follows...
let counter: Int = 1
var pageCountDict = [String:Any]()
for filterCount in counter..<6
{
let value = 9
let count = "page_\(filterCount)_vtime" //'if' is not needed as it is always true
pageCountDict.merge([count: timeInterval_Int], uniquingKeysWith:{ (key, value) -> Any in
//assign value for similar key
timeInterval_Int
})
}
print(pageCountDict)`

iterating an array to extract a value from firebase database in swift

might sound like a basic question--but I'm not seeing where I am going wrong..
I end up with either of these two scenarios:
I keep getting the error "Could not cast value of type __NSCFNumber to NSSTring". if I use extractedSku = skuList[i]!.value["sku"] as! String
If I remove as! String it saves it, but it isn't saved as a string. How do I get this to be saved as a string?
I have appended data from firebase into an array
skuArray = [AnyObject?]()
in viewDidLoad, I am iterating skuArray to extract the 'sku' and store into a variable.
var skuArray = [AnyObject?]()
var productDetailArray = [AnyObject?]()
data stored in Sku Array is:
[Optional(Snap (aRandomKey) {
active = 1;
sku = 888888;
})]
viewDidLoad:
let skuList = self.skuArray
for var i = 0; i < skuList.count ; ++i{
let extractedSku = skuList[i]!.value["sku"] as! String
// go into database and extract "products" details by sku
self.databaseRef.child("products/\(extractedSku)").observeEventType(.ChildAdded, withBlock: { (snapshot:FIRDataSnapshot) in
self.productDetailArray.append(snapshot)
})
Since the underlying type is NSNumber, use the stringValue property to get a String:
if let extractedSku = (skuList[i]?.value["sku"] as? NSNumber)?.stringValue {
// use extractedSku which is of type String
}

Unable to get PFUser field

I want to get the xp of the current user and display it in a label. The xp field of the user is equal to 252 but it is displaying 0. I can get other fields like email, username and password but can't get the value for the xp field. Code:
xpRequiredLabel.text = "\(PFUser.currentUser()!["XP"])/300 XP"
What am I doing wrong ?
This expression PFUser.currentUser()!["XP"] returns AnyObject?. You need to unwrap this optional and cast it to string. Try this:
let userXP = PFUser.currentUser()!["XP"] as! String
xpRequiredLabel.text = "\(userXP)/300 XP"
Or this (less error-prone):
if let userXP = PFUser.currentUser()?["XP"] as? String {
xpRequiredLabel.text = "\(userXP)/300 XP"
}
Update
It turns out that you have to fetch the object from the server before accessing new properties. So, your code should look like:
let user = PFUser.currentUser()!
user.fetch()
let userXP = ["XP"] as! Int // If you have "Number" as your column datatype
xpRequiredLabel.text = "\(userXP)/300 XP"
Note that fetch() will block the UI. You can also make this code async:
if let user = User.currentUser() {
user.fetchInBackgroundWithBlock({ (result, error) -> Void in
if let u = result as? PFUser {
if let userXP = u["XP"] as? Int {
self.xpRequiredLabel.text = "\(userXP)/300 XP"
}
}
})
}
those are Int values
252 / 300 = 0 when ints invovled
you can do something like
xpRequiredLabel.text = "Float((PFUser.currentUser()!["XP"]))/300.0 XP"

Sort value in dictionary that resides within an array

I have an Array: var messageArray = [AnyObject]() and in that Array there is a single tuple that contains Dictionaries with 10 key/value paires (9 of them not important for the sort): var messageDetailDict = [String: AnyObject]()
Getting and setting those values all work correctly, however now I want to sort the Array by 1 of the values (not keys) of the Dictionary.
Example -> The Array has a tuple containing several Dictionaries:
The key in the Dictionary (which is the first element in the Array) is: 'ReceivedAt' which has a value of 21-03-2015
The key in the Dictionary (which is the second element in the Array) is: 'ReceivedAt' which has a value of 20-03-2015
The key in the Dictionary (which is the third element in the Array) is: 'ReceivedAt' which has a value of 15-03-2015
Now the Array should be sorted so that the values of 'ReceivedAt' will be sorted from earliest date, to the last date.
Hope this makes sense, but it's a bit difficult to explain. Thanks!
EDIT >>>>>
This is the println(messageArray) output:
[(
{
ConversationId = "94cc96b5-d063-41a0-ae03-6d1a868836fb";
Data = "Hello World";
Id = "eeb5ac08-209f-4ef0-894a-72e77f01b80b";
NeedsPush = 0;
ReceivedAt = "/Date(1439920899537)/";
SendAt = "/Date(1436620515000)/";
Status = 0;
},
{
ConversationId = "94cc96b5-d063-41a0-ae03-6d1a868836fb";
Data = "Hello World";
Id = "86b8766d-e4b2-4ef6-9112-ba9193048d9d";
NeedsPush = 0;
ReceivedAt = "/Date(1439921562909)/";
SendAt = "/Date(1436620515000)/";
Status = 0;
}
)]
And the received date is converted to a string with the following method (I do think however this is not important, as it is a time interval, and therefore OK to sort):
func getTimeStampFromAPIValue(dateTimeReceived: String) -> String {
let newStartIndex = advance(dateTimeReceived.startIndex, 6)
let newEndIndex = advance(dateTimeReceived.endIndex, -2)
let substring = dateTimeReceived.substringWithRange(newStartIndex..<newEndIndex) // ell
let receivedAtValueInInteger = (substring as NSString).doubleValue
let receivedAtValueInDate = NSDate(timeIntervalSince1970:receivedAtValueInInteger/1000)
//format date
var dateFormatter = NSDateFormatter()
dateFormatter.dateFormat = "dd-MM-yy hh:mm"
var dateString = dateFormatter.stringFromDate(receivedAtValueInDate)
return dateString
}
Since the values of ReceivedAt are timestamps as strings you could apply the following algorithm:
var sortedArray = messageArray.sorted { (dict1, dict2) in
// Get the ReceivedAt value as strings
if let date1String = dict1["ReceivedAt"] as? String,
let date2String = dict2["ReceivedAt"] as? String {
// Compare the date strings to find the earlier of the two
return date1String.compare(date2String) == .OrderedAscending
}
// Couldn't parse the date, make an assumption about the order
return true
}
Try this, change OrderedAscending with OrderedDescending if need in inverse order
messageArray.sortInPlace {
($0["ReceivedAt"] as! NSDate).compare($1["ReceivedAt"] as! NSDate) == .OrderedAscending
}

NSDictionary annidate in swift

I don't know what to do. swift is changed every beta.
As #Kirsteins said is his answer, you have to do a lot of unwrapping, and it's recommended to use a JSON library.
If you still want to stick with hand made extraction, then I suggest you to made it programmatically, such as adding an extension to NSDictionary as follows:
extension NSDictionary {
func objectForTreeKeys<T>(keys:[String]) -> T? {
var dict: NSDictionary? = self
var retValue: T?
for key in keys {
var value: AnyObject? = dict?.objectForKey(key)
if let unwrapped = value as? NSDictionary {
dict = unwrapped
} else if let unwrapped = value as? T {
retValue = unwrapped
break
} else {
retValue = nil
break
}
}
return retValue
}
}
You pass an array of keys to the function, and it traverses all nested dictionaries until:
a value of type T is encountered
a value having type different than NSDictionary and T is found
a nil value is found
In the first case, it returns the value of T type - in the other cases it returns nil.
You can use it as follows:
let ret: String? = jsonResult.objectForTreeKeys(["features", "properties", "alert"])
As you can see, it's a generic method, and the return type is inferred from the type of the variable the result is assigned to - so it's necessary to explicitly define its type, which must be optional (String? in this specific case).
