Change Xcode 11 Template files - ios

how can i change the Xcode Template files, when i want to create a new File? I searched online but the path to changes these wasn't correct with Xcode 11
I tried these:
~/Library/Developer/Xcode/Templates
~/Library/Developer/Xcode/Templates/File Templates/Source
~/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Xcode/File Templates/
But couldn't find the template files.

Xcode path is for me:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Library/Xcode/Templates/File Templates
Target path indeed matches (but Templates folder does not exist), so I did:
cp -fr /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Library/Xcode/Templates ~/Library/Developer/Xcode
Now, where are the C++ templates? Hidden in:
/Users/michael/Library/Developer/Xcode/Templates/File Templates/MultiPlatform/Source/C++ File.xctemplate
What has <cstdio> to do in C++ project template files?? Someone at Apple's side has been sleeping here for some decades.
Anyways, it works but I have duplicated entries now. I tried removing the original folder but it does not work:
sudo rm -rf /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/Library/Xcode/Templates
But anyways. Just picking the right files works. You can also rename the "C++ File.xctemplate" name... whatever is before "File" seems to work as a label in Xcode.
Alternatively, you can just change the templates directly in /Applications/Xcode.app but then suffer from having them overwritten after update.

Apple's file templates are inside the Xcode app bundle.
Xcode/Contents/Developer/Library/Xcode/Templates/File Templates
You should not modify the file templates in the Xcode app bundle because you will lose them when you update Xcode. Copy the file templates you want to change to the user file template location.
~/Library/Developer/Xcode/Templates/File Templates
You may have to manually create some of the folders in this path. You may also want to create an additional folder to store your templates to make finding them easier when creating a new file.
After copying the file templates to the user file template location, you can make changes to the files.

Whats the best way to add a dataset of 50 Folders to an iOS App?

In my case I have 50 Folders where each of it has subfolders and images. I could drag them into the apps main bundle but there are many duplicate filenames and it would be more practical to access them in the structured way.
Your wording "it would be more practical to access them in the structured way" seems to suggest that you think the Resources folder cannot contain a folder tree of files, it can. However if you let Xcode itself copy your resource files into the bundle it will flatten the tree without any option to preserve it (for reasons unknown). To address this you can copy the files into the bundle using a build script.
In outline, you need to fill in the gaps with some reading:
First add your files and folders into your project. Use one group per folder, in Xcode 9 creating a group creates a corresponding folder in the project directory but in prior versions you must create the group and then associate it with a folder – check the documentation of whatever Xcode version you are using.
Mark all the folders and files added in this way as not part of your build target. This prevents Xcode copying the files automatically into the bundle, and flattening your folder tree in the process.
Now in the target settings go to the "Build Phases" tab and add a new build script phase. Add a shell script which uses something like ditto to copy the folder tree into the bundle. Various environment variables are set which reference the project and the bundle, check your Xcode documentation or just run a dummy script and dump them out (it is an option, or use printenv). You can use these environment variables to determine the source and destination for your copy.
In your app itself you can locate the root folder of your tree using standard bundle methods. From there you can use whatever method you choose to traverse it/reference items with in it, in exactly the same way you would if the folder tree was not inside the bundle.

Getting error after changing project folder name in XCode

When I created my project, I called it "Project1". Then, later I've changed it to "Project2" from the Xcode. I changed all "Project1" to "Project2", but now, when I compile my project, it looks for files in Project2/Project1/myFile.swift and I get the next error:
<unknown>:0: error: no such file or directory: '/Users/myusername/Copy/Projects/Project2/Project1/myFile.swift'
I need to make that it will look at
/Users/myusername/Copy/Projects/Project2/myFile.swift
without Project1 in the path.
How can I solve this problem? Also, I changed from Xcode Identity and Type section Location of my project.
Today I had the same problem when I renamed the folder containing the Xcode project and some parent folders of it.
In my case there where a .swift file shown with it's name in red in the list of files of Xcode (Navigator area). I think that this means that Xcode was not capable to find that file.
I selected that file (actually it's not a real file but a representation of it).
Then, in the File Inspector (Utility area), I clicked on the Folder icon and chose the file on Finder.
This worked for me.
Renaming projects in xcode in one of the most annoying things in iOS development. I assume you want to rename your app. I faced this problem once and figured out a simple, clean way to do it.
Go back to the point where everything worked.
Open project in xcode and click on the project icon in the project structure( first file)
Go to the info tab
Search for Bundle Name. Most probably it will automatically be set to $(PRODUCT_NAME) which is a shell variable that will set your app name the same as the project name.
Set it to whatever you want your app name to be
Done
Note : If you use custom URL Schemes this might produce an error when redirecting.
ALWAYS use git or some other SVN in your projects. This will come in handy in this kind of situations
Change you folder name in you finder "Project1" to "Project2"
Remove "myFile.swift" file from project (copy on Desktop)
Restart Xcode. Copy "myFile.swift" in project select "Copy file to folder" hope this will help.

Xcode .gitignore files within directories

I am looking to .gitignore my plist file found within a subdirectory within my project. When I ignore individual files at the root level where .gitignore is located I have no problems with the exclusion, but when I try to exclude files within the a subdirectory I can't seem set up the proper way to exclude this and my file still appears. I think what is throwing me off the most is the way that my Xcode projects appear in my finder compared to my Xcode program. In Xcode, my .plist appears within a Supporting Files folder. Once would assume that this would mean my gitignore request would be /app-name/Supporting Files/Info.plist, but in the finder, there is no Supporting Files folder, just Info.plist.
Any advice as to what I should do?
Should my .gitignore look like:
facebook-login-template/Info.plist
or
/facebook-login-template/Supporting Files/Info.plist
or should it be something else?
I think you are looking for this:
*Info.plist
If you only want to avoid the one inside "facebook-login-template", it should work with
facebook-login-template/Info.plist
but remember you have to reset the file on git if you've already tracked it.

Adding frameworks to project in Xcode 5 and having *relative* paths added

All of a sudden today I get an unexpected problem with Xcode (5).
This is how I normally add an external framework:
Drag-n-drop the file (xxx.framework etc) (or the folder which contains the file) into the project manager.
In "Choose options for adding files" I check "Copy items into destination (if needed)" only if needed (if the files are already in the project's folder I don't do this)
In "Folders" I select Create groups for any added folders
And I add it to my app target.
Normally this would also add the relative path(s) to the framework in Build Settings/Framework Search Paths and Library Search Paths.
However today the path that shows up there is direct (aka absolute). This breaks stuff down the line because the paths should be relative. How come Xcode does this all of a sudden? I suspect it might have to do with this one project only (it comes from a 3rd part dev) and something about their project setup could be causing this.
I faced the same issue. There is a simple fix. Go to framework search paths. Remove everything from there. Add ./ and make it recursive. That's it.
I am having the same problem on XCode 5, so far the best solution is to modify the path of your framework search.
Go to your project
Build settings->Framework search path
Add the relative path to your framework.
If it was correctly copied now you can modify the path, to something like this:
./MyProject/Libraries/ACoolLibrary
Supposing a file structure like this:
-MyProject.xcodeproj
-MyProject
--Libraries
-----ACoolLibrary
-------- TheCoolLibrary.framework

Project ...xcodeproj cannot be opened because it is missing its project.pbxproj file

I was trying to merge branches and it resulted in the error "Unable to open project… cannot be opened because the project file cannot be parsed". I then tried to take the advice of other stackoverflow responses (namely to edit the file to remove the corruption), but was unable to edit the file. It appears that this is actually a directory, so maybe the structure of this changed with version 4.4 of xcode and since the response to Unable to open project... cannot be opened because the project file cannot be parsed was written.
I then tried to restore myProject.xcodeproj from my time machine backup. This does not work because it says that I don't have permission to access myProject.xcodeproj. I tried to change the permission of that directory, but that did not help.
I closed and reopened xcode. Now the error is:
Project ...xcodeproj cannot be opened because it is missing its project.pbxproj file.
How can I fix this problem in xcode version 4.4? Can it be restored from the previous snapshot or archive or version in xcode. Can it be restored with time machine. I would like to avoid rebuilding the entire project.
The simplest thing to do is probably to
Checkout myProject.xcodeproj from source control. This will contain the changes that were causing you to be in conflict last time.
Redo the project changes that you made since the last time you committed to source control
commit/push to source control.
In the future, when you get a conflict in the project file, take a look at myProject.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj. Often it's just new files in the project that have been added at the same place. In this case you just need to delete the conflict metadata and resolve the conflicted state.
In the end, what I had to do was
'cp -R ...TimeMachineBackup/myProject.xcodeproj ...myProjectArea/myProject.xcodeproj'
Then I had to do the following in myProjectArea:
git reset --merge
This allowed me to open the project and switch branches back to my main branch.

Another way this can happen is if you've been using sudo for some reason with pods or the editor - if the file exists under yourApp.xcodeprojectroj directory but xcode is complaining it can't find it - Go to your project root and do:
sudo chown -R yourusername:staff ./*
For others looking at this issue, the cause in my case turned out to be, that the "conflict text" from a git merge had crept into the actual file:

opening the project.pbxproj in a text editor made the fix easy.
I found my own solution to this issue.
The cause of the bug is that the .xcodeproj file is missing its containing pbxproj file, right? This is usually present when you right click your .xcodeproj file and click 'Show Package Contents'. However, in your own case, it's been deleted, through some mistake or other of git versioning.
As you can't really generate a .pbxproj file, the solution I found was to go to the original project folder location, which I had used to create the repository. To be honest, you could probably simply create a new project also, as long as it has the same bundle identifier and such! As this project's xcodeproj file will correctly contain a .pbxproj file, replacing the files in the XCode environment with your own project's files will allow the .pbxproj file to update based on these files.
Therefore, after opening this original project folder (/new project folder), in the XCode environment, I then removed all the files within the project, and replaced them with the corresponding files from my project which I was unable to open the xcodeproj file of. I had to fix a few resulting bugs here and there, stuff involving build phases and such not lining up, given you've just copied in a bunch of new files. But after fixing a few small errors, the same project in this new location was eventually able to run no problem!
Finally, I took this successfully running version of the project, and copied in all the files, .xcodeproj file, project folder, test files and all, into the original repository location, deleting the files from the repository before hand to avoid confusing overwriting of files (you can cut and paste the old repository files to a new location if you want to be safe, and don't fancy deleting them!). Then open the project in XCode from the repository location, build and run it on your simulator/device to make sure everything lines up (and fix any small bugs you may need to), and voila! Your project is now able to be committed, pushed, and ran!
This isn't the cleanest solution, and you may have to do similar things across various branches if they've all been corrupted. However, if you don't have access to a Mac time machine, and the other solutions aren't working for you, this is possibly the most straight forward way of having a working .pbxproj file again!
Oh, and I removed the .pbxproj from my gitignore. I'm not sure if it's actually find to have it in your gitignore or not, but I'd recommend doing your own research on that subject, I'm not certain myself!

I was able to get this working without commandline stuff like this:
Go to Time Machine drive in Finder.
Navigate to desired backup.
Drag it to where I want it. This will complain about not having permission to access the .pbxproj
Right-click the xcodeproj you just dragged out, select "Show Contents".
Right-click the xcodeproj in the Time Machine backup folder, select "Show Contents".
Drag the .pbxproj you see inside to the destnation you just created with the drag in #3.
Now it should work.
It seems you can generate the file again with:
swift package generate-xcodeproj
although you could see this message:
warning: Xcode can open and build Swift Packages directly. 'generate-xcodeproj' is no longer needed and will be deprecated soon.
generated: ./BokenEngine.xcodeproj
with xcodebuild > 13.4.1:
xcodebuild -version
Xcode 13.4.1
Build version 13F100
If anyone wants to find the missing project.pbxproj file then try opening the .xcodeproj with some code editor and you will find the file there. And note that i had backup of my application in my other pc so i found that file there so you mist have backup of your project somewhere in order for this to work.
In my case the issue was that there were actually 2 folders with .xcodeproj suffix
The actual one was located in MyApp/MyApp.xcodeproj
Somehow another one with the same name MyApp.xcodeproj got added to root folder, with the following contents:
project.xcworkspace/contents.xcworkspacedata
project.xcworkspace/xcshareddata/IDEWorkspaceChecks.plist
So deleting this corrupt(?) xcodeproj solved the issue.
