I have installed Gazebo 9 with ROS melodic on Ubuntu 18.04. I keep getting the following problem:
Start Gazebo
Add some objects to the world
File -> Save As...
The program freezes and the saving window does not show up
It is possible to Alt+F4 to return to the world editor but nothing saves.
Help me if anyone knows about that
I am working on Ubuntu 18.04 and using Gazebo 9 installed with ros-melodic.
I had the same problem.
One of the ways to solve problem is to run gazebo with sudo.
https://answers.gazebosim.org//question/23755/save-as-wont-load-when-clicked/
Looking for this issue I read in some where else that is a problem of image/windows configuration/postioning, it like the save windows is hided behind the gazebo screen. So, I try to minimize the gazebo window and maximize again, it works and the save window appears. The problem is that you must do this after each clcik (e.g. folder, type file name etc.) to “update the screen”.
Can you run Gazebo from command line and get more details about the error? You can press tab and see all commands.

I have a question regarding Cytoscape. I just downloaded the newest version (v3.9.0) for Windows, but I am not able to open the actual application. Before I used v3.6.1 which ran perfectly fine, but I want to make use of the KEGGscape app which requires Cytoscape v3.8.0 or higher.
I have deleted the previous installation of Cytoscape, as well as made sure the cache was cleared. In addition, I downloaded the correct version of Java (Java version 11) and checked the system requirements with the script available on the website, which summarised: "Succes! You are ready to run Cytoscape 3.9.0."
So I am not exactly sure what I am missing and why it is not starting and hope anyone can help.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. When you say it doesn't start, does it correctly install, and the application doesn't start when you double-click it, or does the installer never start? If it's the former -- Cytoscape installs, but doesn't start, you could try opening up a console window and run cytoscape.bat from the directory that you installed it. That should give us more information about what the problem is. There should also be a file called framework-cytoscape.log in the CytoscapeConfiguration\3\ directory in your home. That will give us more information also.

I have done some research on how to make a button in rqt and I came across this option from jsk. I have downloaded the jsk package from github. Now that I have the plugin installed how do I actually get the push button example to run in rqt? Could someone walk me threw the steps I need to do to get the downloaded example to appear in an rqt window. Thank you very much to anyone who can help I am using ubunto 16.04 and ros kinetic. I have an existing perspective file I would like to implement this on.
I am having problems saving the Python code in Anaconda. I write code, Go to File Save as the file is saved but when I open it is empty, no code. I read that IDLE does not save code, it erases it when I close Anaconda.
I have searched in books, youtube tutorials and nothing. I could not find this topic. I can find advanced topics, but this one no.
Thank you for your help!
Best,
Tiberiu
This somewhat depends on what OS you are on. I can speak from my experience. I would highly recommend using PyCharm as an IDE.
But more fundamentally than that, lets talk about saving files. On Mac OS X or Ubuntu 14.04 (or the like), lets say you want to create a python file. One way is to do the following in a terminal:
nano hello.py
This opens up a text editor whose instructions for use are on the bottom of the screen. On Windows you could do:
notepad hello.py
In both cases you then write your code. Lets say the content was:
#content of hello.py
print "Hello World!"
Then you need to save the file and execute it with Python.
Which brings us to the Python issue.
Once you have installed Anaconda, and assuming that there are no other Python installations on your computer. The Anaconda Python should be the active Python on system.
Suffice to say that there are other ways of saving files rather than using IDLE. Personally I have found PyCharm to be a much better IDE for writing Python code.
To address the IDLE issue more directly once you type in the terminal/command prompt idle to launch an IDLE session, likely the IDLE Shell will open up. Perhaps you are trying to save this, in which case you will only save the Shell session.
So go to File - New - Save. This should work without any problem (it does on my system). Good luck! Hope this helps.
Total newbie questions, here. But I installed raring with cli-extra options. Then installed emacs24. I installed texlive. Now with C-c C-c command I can compile .tex documents in emacs. But I don't get a view of it.
My question is, is this because I never installed an X interface? Or is because I am accessing emacs through SecureShell in the ChromeOS?
Thanks so much, please correct any misunderstandings I have. Anyone have suggestions where I can look to find out?
Without a desktop environment there isn't anything that will be able to display images (the pdf).
An example of this is when you have images like pngs in your .emacs.desktop and you open it in no window mode (-nw), emacs gives an error as linux terminals don't support images.
If you want this functionality I'd recommend either loading a desktop manager like xfce, or open the pdf in chrome os, and hopefully it will update automatically when the pdf is re-rendered, otherwise you should just be able to refresh to update it.
so I'm going through the onemonthrails online classes, however I've run into a problem.
Unlike when using a Mac, It's not possible to create a separate 'tab' to continue working whilst the rails server is running or in general. So I've tried just opening another GitBash window like the tutorial suggests, from the programs/apps menu in Windows 8 (whilst the other one is running) but no luck.
Apologies if this is a dumb questions, but am I missing something obvious?
Once you have a GitBash tile in the taskbar, click it while holding Shift to open additional instances.
You should be able to open another app window. Maybe just make sure you're in desktop mode.
Though. If you're going to work on windows for a while, you better start setting up your environment correctly. Honestly, you don't want to use cmd.exe.
Instead, use Console2 wrapping a Powershell prompt. Console2 will allow you to use tabs like Unix prompts. There's a guide to setting this up correctly here: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/Console2ABetterWindowsCommandPrompt.aspx
Also, as you'll now be using Powershell, customize your prompt! For this, I suggest you install Posh-git.
And! To install all this easily and be a windows awesome user, install Chocolatey and install these programs using it :)
