Flutter 'Error running pod install' 'Pods-Runner' target has transitive dependencies - ios

When trying to run my flutter project I get:
Error running pod install
(I saw another very similar post but I'm not sure if I'm having the same issue.)
I'm writing Dart code with Flutter on macOS Mojave version 10.14.6.
I've tried:
flutter clean
flutter doctor
flutter upgrade
`flutter precache
flutter run
I've tried every flutter command in every possible combination of said commands, but still get the same error.
flutter doctor:

You can see the error in the message

`Runner` because no platform was specified. Please specify a platform for
this target in your Podfile.
So, go to the file ios/Podfile inside your project, find there the line
# platform :ios, '9.0'
and uncomment it.
After that delete ios/Podfile.lock file and run project again (or pod update)

cd ios/
rm Podfile.lock
pod install
pod repo update

run this code on the terminal
sudo arch -x86_64 gem install ffi
Next, go to the ios folder in your project, and open Podfile.
find there the line
#platform :ios, '9.0'
remove the # and change the 9.0 to 10.0, and the final code should be like the below
platform :ios, '10.0'

Error running pod install
Whats odd is I was running builds for a few weeks no problem. I had to update some plugins inside the pubspec.yaml file then it all broke when building ios
I immediately googled my answered and found this stack overflow question here: Flutter Automatically assigning platform `iOS` with version `9.0` on target `Runner` because no platform was specified
They mentioned to:
You should uncomment your profile ios target.
I had already had that un-commented and set to platform :ios, '11.0'
I then did some more research and it looks like it could be a Mac M1 Chip issue: How to run CocoaPods on Apple Silicon (M1)
I followed the 2022 instructions there:
# Uninstall the local cocoapods gem
sudo gem uninstall cocoapods
# Reinstall cocoapods via Homebrew
brew install cocoapods
This failed and I think brought me into a bigger hole so I ran flutter doctor
Doctor summary (to see all details, run flutter doctor -v):
[✓] Flutter (Channel stable, 3.3.8, on macOS 12.5 21G72 darwin-arm, locale en-US)
[✓] Android toolchain - develop for Android devices (Android SDK version 32.1.0-rc1)
[!] Xcode - develop for iOS and macOS (Xcode 14.1)
! CocoaPods 1.5.2 out of date (1.11.0 is recommended).
CocoaPods is used to retrieve the iOS and macOS platform side's plugin code that responds to your plugin usage on the Dart
side.
Without CocoaPods, plugins will not work on iOS or macOS.
For more info, see https://flutter.dev/platform-plugins
To upgrade see https://guides.cocoapods.org/using/getting-started.html#installation for instructions.

[✓] Android Studio (version 2021.1)

I then clicked on the link and followed the instructions to update cocoa pods.

But if I run flutter doctor again, it still says its out of date...
Think I am in a worse place now.
To summarize a few keypoints here:
Your cocoapods installation was broken. So try removing the brew version first via "brew uninstall cocoapods" Then install cocoapods via sudo gem install cocoapods.
Your Podfile is referencing two different versions of the same package.
[!] CocoaPods could not find compatible versions for pod "Firebase/Firestore":

In Podfile:
cloud_firestore (from `.symlinks/plugins/cloud_firestore/ios`) was resolved to 4.0.5, which depends on
Firebase/Firestore (= 10.1.0)
This might also cause the build error. You could try to find versions of the plugins snapshot and cloud_firestore that don't conflict with one another.

Error running pod install
Error launching application on iPhone 13.
I have tried:
1- Go to Podfile and changed "platform :ios, '8.0'" to 9.0 and 10.0
2- flutter clean > flutter pub get
3- I deleted pod and run pod install
4- Also run this commands:
arch -x86_64 pod update
arch -x86_64 pod install --repo-update
But still getting same error. Any help how to fix this?
I solved the issue.
Problem was in 'main.dart'. I changed 'main' function from this:
void main() async {
WidgetsFlutterBinding.ensureInitialized();
await Firebase.initializeApp();
runApp(MyApp());
}
to this:
void main() async {
WidgetsFlutterBinding.ensureInitialized();
await Firebase.initializeApp(
options: DefaultFirebaseOptions.currentPlatform,
);
runApp(MyApp());
}
So, I think options parameter on Firebase.initializeApp() is required now.
Adding options with FlutterFire CLI solved my problem.
Also, here documentation for this:
https://firebase.flutter.dev/docs/cli
I found another solution that worked for me. I think the problem stems from the default cocoapods install, as instructed on the cocoapods front page, has some M1 incompatibilities with its FFI (foreign function interface).
Installing cocoapods via homebrew instead, ensures that you are getting an apple silicon compatible version.
These instructions worked for me.
But it boils down to uninstalling cocoapods and reinstalling it via homebrew:
brew install cocoapods
1- sudo arch -x86_64 gem install ffi
2- arch -x86_64 pod install
The newer versions of firebase requires some updating and this is what worked for me
updated firebase on pubspec to latest version then ran the following
firebase login
dart pub global activate flutterfire_cli
flutterfire configure
deleted outdated Podfile.lock file
rm ios/Podfile.lock
updated the Podfile
pod repo update
build the project
flutter build ios
try this combination:
remove .symlinks && /Pods && podfile.lock
pod deintegrate
pod repo update
pod install
Try run it!

How do I resolve the pod install error on flutter?

CocoaPods could not find compatible versions for pod
"cloud_firestore": In Podfile:

Specs satisfying the cloud_firestore (from .symlinks/plugins/cloud_firestore/ios) dependency were found, but
they required a higher minimum deployment target.
[!] Automatically assigning platform iOS with version 9.0 on

platform for this target in your Podfile. See
https://guides.cocoapods.org/syntax/podfile.html#platform.
I get this error on terminal whenever I try to install pod.
As the error said, we have incompatibility with the firebase package so:
I went to the Podfile and upgrade to 10 (platform :ios, '10.0') and the error go away;
as additional note:
I had that line commented before, so my first try was uncomment and upgrade to 9, but it wasn't work.
This problem mainly occur when using a MacBook with the M1 chip.
CocoaPods could not find compatible versions for pod "Firebase/Messaging":
In Podfile:
firebase_messaging (from .symlinks/plugins/firebase_messaging/ios) was resolved to 10.0.0, which depends on
Firebase/Messaging (= 8.0.0)
The Solution here is to try the following steps:
Cocoa Pods Installation in M1
sudo gem install cocoapods
sudo gem install ffi
arch -x86_64 sudo gem install cocoapods -n /usr/local/bin
sudo gem install cocoapods -n /usr/local/bin
Install ffi
sudo arch -x86_64 gem install ffi
#update repo
arch -x86_64 pod install --repo-update
Flutter iOS builds
flutter clean
flutter build ios
Re-install dependency in iOS folder of flutter project
arch -x86_64 pod install
upgrade to 10 (platform :ios, '10.0') its work but face another issue
cloud_firestore: ^0.16.0
Error: CocoaPods's specs repository is too out-of-date to satisfy dependencies.
Solution
It can be solved by executing the following commands in the terminal.
Go to /ios folder inside your Project.
Delete Podfile.lock
Run pod install --repo-update (Make sure your cd into the iOS directory of the flutter app)
Run flutter clean
Once complete, rebuild your Flutter application: flutter run
arch -x86_64 pod install --repo-update works, i just tried it before but then i realised that you have to delete the Podfile.lock file located in your ios folder app/ios.
I've also updated the platform to "platform :ios, '12.0'" & this is what it's working on.
This answer works: https://stackoverflow.com/a/67636592/12592516.
Then you just have remove Podfile.lock
And this is on M1 chip.
I've struggled a lot with this but now I understand, I hope that this helps!
Thank you for the answer! It took quite some time to figure this out. For those looking and using Visual Studio Code. After you run the debugger, and Podfile will be created for you. At the top of the Podfile file in the ios/ directory, uncomment the line to read:
platform :ios, '10.0'
Go To your iOS folder, run pod repo remove trunk
then pod update.. and it will be fixed.

I encounterwd this problem with my mac m1 pro.
Removed the Podfile from my project.
I was using terminal inside the VSCode kept getting errors.

After that finished I ran the same command: arch -x86_64 pod install --repo-update inside VSCode and said: Pod installation complete! There are 6 dependencies from the Podfile and 30 total pods installed.
They key was removing Podfile from my project. Hopefully this helps.

Error when starting project from command line

I installed the package using npm I then followed these instructions (french) to configure it for iOS. But I can't run the app using npx react-native run-ios, it gives me this error:
xcodebuild: error: Could not resolve package dependencies:
because no versions of facebook-ios-sdk match the
requirement 7.0.2..<8.0.0 and root depends on
facebook-ios-sdk 7.0.2..<8.0.0, version solving failed.
I tried to reinstall react-native-fbsdk and also installing pods again:
$ cd ios
$ rm Podfile.lock
$ pod repo update
$ pod install

Pod installation complete! There are 41 dependencies from the Podfile and 59 total pods installed.
On the other hand I have no issue running it from xcode (even though the error still show up).
My npm environment is the following:
{
"react-native": "0.62.2",
"react-native-fbsdk": "^2.0.0",
}
I still have no idea what's going on with the installation as proposed in the documentation. But we solved the problem in Xcode by updating facebook-ios-sdk:
file > Swift packages > Update to latest package versions.
After running this, facebook-ios-sdk version appears in Xcode (for us it was 7.1.1). And then the error goes away.

I had a similar issue, I have stopped receiving the error while executing pod install, when I altered some of the dependencies in pubspec.yaml. What I have done was referring to the dependency's git link instead of its version number.
To make it more clear instead of:
barcode_scan: ^1.0.0
I have written:
barcode_scan:
git: git://github.com/apptreesoftware/flutter_barcode_reader.git
