Scenario:
I have a website (CATALOG.COM), without any validation request, and without source code.
Now I need to set a validation to access.
Possibility Solution
If I create another site with validation (START_WEB.Com), and after I redirect on CATALOG.COM, can be a good solution ?
For example:
[Authorize]
public ActionResult Run_Old_WebSite()
{
return Redirect("www.Catalog.com");
}
Any suggestions?
p.s. I work with Asp.net, Mvc and Bootstrap
without the source code availability , You cannot validate the page.
Below is the alternate solution for this:
When any one hit the CATALOG.COM apply the 301 redirection rule to it and return it to the new site url like: START_WEB.Com?returnUrl=CATALOG.COM
Then in the new site add some validation login page, authenticate it and then redirect it to the old url: CATALOG.COM?validated=true
In this way you can achieve this, Here you can track the users also who are visiting to the old url site.
Assuming you have access to the published files, I would copy them to my local machine, decompile the site specific assemblies using something like Jetbrains dotPeek (it's free) and re-create a new solution in Visual Studio with the decompiled sources. Depending on site size/complexity this may take a bit of time but you would at least be able to make improvements to the code,build and deploy.

Is there an available URL redirect for Umbraco 7.4? I mean I'm aware that there is a URL Redirect Management Tools in Umbraco 7.5 but we are using the lower version and it doesn't have that. Is there a way to achieve the same result? The scenario is this.
We created an web.com/about-us page. Now this is cached in google search now.
We then decided to change about-us to corporate now the cached version is still pointing to about-us where in fact the new URL now is web.com/corporate
How can I achieve a URL redirect? If someone manually typed or clicked on the cached url like about-us how can Umbraco 7.4 redirects it to the correct site? Would appreciate a step by step process if possible since I'm still new in Umbraco
you can use something like SEO Checker to manage this for you - there are also other plugins available that can do the redirection management.

As my first post has been hidden due to lack of detail, which is understandable, I am adding this new answer with more details.
We use UrlTracker for our projects - it is a nuget package that you install and then you can start using it. This can help.
The Url Tracker is used to manage URLs within umbraco and it automatically tracks URL changes, for instance when a node is renamed, this makes sure the old URL will redirect to the new location. Using this; you can also create your own redirects, based on a simple URL or using a Regex pattern. This is especially handy while migrating existing indexed URLs to your new website.
Please check this umbraco package web page for more details. Alternative links can be found below, hope this helps.

I am using umbraco 7.1.3.
My requirement is to create another sub-domain in main site dynamically as per user request.For example I have implemented umbraco cms for my site "ww.xyz.com" & I am updating content through umbraco login. Now I want to create sub-domains for different clients as per their request... like : "www.xyz.com/client1", "www.xyz.com/client2" and so on...
Now all sub-domain site should have it's own umbraco framework, so client-site (sub-domain owner) can login and update their information respectively.
To achieve this requirement I implemented following steps...
First I register a umbraco website in IIS and configure it, and that worked properly.
Then I register another umbraco website in IIS and configured it, and that also worked properly.
Now to implement sub-domain logic...
I simply copied 2nd website's folder in to first website folder. Then convert that folder to application through IIS.
As per my expectation this should work, As I have already done the same in asp.net and it worked.
But with umbraco I am facing issue like "Invalid key value".
I think the issue is related to some umbraco configuration, but I am not able to figure it out.
Thanks & Regards
A bit of an open door, but since I don't see it mentioned in any of the comments and it's a bit hidden away in Umbraco 8. Have you tried setting the urls in the Cultures and Hostnames section?
Note: you get to this by going to "Content", in the content tree right click on your homepage and now you get several extra options which are normally hidden away with also the very useful Hostname and Cultures option which allows you to support multiple urls.
I want to be able to have a folder which allows regular access like the \content folder except that it holds a ClickOnce application. I can't seem to be able to achieve this using Mvc, but I'd like to have this folder accessible without Mvc seeing it as a controller action.
I tried using routes.Ignore(theUrl), but this seemed to have no effect.
There are two ways you can do this. The first is where you are currently going, which is to satisfy it with routing. You should be able to use the following to ignore the intended route:
routes.IgnoreRoute("...")
However, this might not be the right approach from a security stand point. I would recommend you define an explicit action to download your click-once exe. Have a look at this q/a as an example of using the FileContentResult class.
The reason for this is that you can control security for that file without having to open up access levels to other directories.
Edit: If this is for an entire directory, you can still follow this same approach.
Set up the folder as a virtual folder in the website on IIS. then you can set the url in the code to point to the machine serving the request and to the virtual folder on the web server.
I would like to know if there is a way to integrate YAF.NET to my MVC3 Application?
I dont want YAF to be inside my page like using my masterpage or stuff like that, I just want it to be in a subfolder like /forum and if a user clicks the "forum" link he will be redirected to the forum.
In the future I also would like to use a login system for my page, so I have to think about membership provider. I know that there is a way to make YAF use your basic asp.net membership provider but will yaf work with mvc 3 in that way? Since yaf isn't a .NET 4 application I wonder how I could migrate the membership provider?
If there isn't a solution for the membership stuff, I should be able to just link from my page to YAF?
EDIT:
My solution ->
1)I added a subdomain and config both of mine domains to use an A-Record which points to the Server where IIS is running.
2)I added 2 Websites. The first one is my Main Website with my MVC3 Application and the second one is the YAF.NET Forum.
3) I edited the binding settings of both of the websites (IIS Manager -> Sites -> yoursite -> Binding) and removed the IP binding insteed i added a HTTP header. For mainsite = mydomain.com and for the forum forum.mydomain.com
For the first part, you can just install YAF in a virtual directory on your website like www.mywebsite.com/forums/ and let it run standalone there.
Create a new Virtual Directory in the folder you like. (/forums)
Set permissions, .NET settings etc accordingly and install YAF there.
For the second, what you could do is use from your MVC app, directly read YAF's database of users (wherever it is) and use it to authenticate your users.
The Latest build of YAF is on ASP.net 3.5, you could try getting the source and building it for .NET4, although this would not be necessary since you said you don't want to mash your app with it but run it side-by-side and have them interop. (There also is some UserControl feature for CMS's you might want to check that out)
On the features page it says YAF supports asp.net memberships and roles, so you shouldn't have a problem there either.
What is the best way to get hosting of an ASP.NET MVC application to work on IIS 5 (6 or 7). When I tried to publish my ASP.NET MVC application, all I seemed to get is 404 errors. I've done a bit of googleing and have found a couple of solutions, but neither seem super elegant, and I worry if they will be unusable once I come to use a shared hosting environment for the application.
Solution 1
Right-click your application virtual directory on inetmgr.exe.
Properties->Virtual Directory Tab-> Configuration.
Add a new mapping extension. The extension should be .*, which will be
mapped to the Executable
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll,
or the appropriate location on your
computer (you can simply copy this
from the mapping for .aspx files). On
the mapping uncheck "check that file
exists".
3 X OK and you're good to go.
If you want, you can apply this setting to all your web sites. In
step1, click on the "Default Web Site"
node instead of your own virtual
directory, and in step 2 go to the
"Home Directory" tab. The rest is the
same.
It seems a tad hacky to route everything through ASP.NET.
Solutions 2
Edit the MVC routing to contain .mvc in the URL and then follow the steps in solution 1 based around this extension. Edit: The original image link was lost, but here it is from Google's Cache:
Answer is here
If *.mvc extension is not registered
to the hosting , it will give 404
exception. The working way of hosting
MVC apps in that case is to modify
global.asax routing caluse in the
following way.
routes.Add(new
Route("{controller}.mvc.aspx/{action}",
new MvcRouteHandler()) {
Defaults = new RouteValueDictionary (new{ controller
= "YourController"} ) });
In this way all your controller
request will end up in *.mvc.aspx,
which is recognized by your hosting.
And as the MVC dlls are copied into
your local bin , no special setttings
need to be done for it.
I think either way you'll have to do Solution 1.
Consider the HTTP Request pipeline.
A request comes into IIS.
IIS checks port/host header to see if it has a web site set up to capture requests for that host header/port.
IIS investigates the file extension of the request (.php, .asp, .aspx) and hands it off to an ISAPI that can handle that type of request.
Only at this point does ASP.NET (or a PHP runtime) kick in. If IIS does't have that mapping then it'll never hand off the request to the ASP.NET runtime and the request will never reach your code. That's why you need that glob (*) mapping to the ASP.NET ISAPI.
ASP.NET MVC framework urls often end with no file extension at all. If you want these requests to get handled by ASP.NET (or some other runtime) you have to map all requests regardless of the file extension to that ISAPI (ie. aspnet_isapi.dll).
This is often also done for HttpHandlers that need to serve off media like .jpg, .gif. For the handler to be hit it needs to get mapped to your code even though .jpg isn't a "normal" ASP.NET file extension.
HTH,
Tyler
Run:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_isapi.dll -i
This will reset IIS registry settings for aspnet user.
Create the virtual directory:
1. Right click on the directory you want to convert
select Properties
under Directory, select Create.
under Configuration, select Add.
for Executable insert:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_isapi.dll
for Extension insert: .*
uncheck “Check that file exists”
under Documents add entry point file, ie: Default.htm, index.htm, Global.asax
under Directory Settings
select Edit...
select Anonymous access
uncheck Allow IIS to control password
uncheck Basic authentication
uncheck Integrated Windows authentication
under ASP.NET, make sure version = v4.0.30319
TAKE NOTE of User Name ie: IUSR_AVSJ82S
Set sharing permission of physical directory:
In windows explorer, go to the physical directory that was converted to a virtual directory.
Right click the directory name
select properties
under security tab, select Add
enter the IIS User name ie: IUSR_AVSJ82S click check name.
click OK
set permissions to Read and Write.
FYI:On server 2003 (developing an app that had to connect to the RPS), it didnt' allow me to add the extension .*, I used the alternate solution modifying the route clause, and that
worked.
Have you tried adding .aspx to the end of the controller name?
It worked for Stack Overflow question Where can I get ASP.NET MVC hosting?.
