I am doing some open source stuff for the rails app https://github.com/publiclab/mapknitter but when I try to launch the rails server using rails s I get the following error message:

Is the problem caused by the the version of rails I am using or the version of skylight or something else entirely?
I am using ruby 2.4.6p354 and rails 3.2.22.5
I have installed and tried to switch to rails 4.2.0 but that doesn't seem to be working, I think because in the gemfile there is a pessimistic version constraint of gem "rails" ,"~>3.2" but I could be completely wrong. I have been told not to change the gemfile.
Check first line in error backtrace. You dont have /config/database.yml in your project

I am following this steps to install ruby on rails in ubuntu or linux subsystem on windows 10.
But this time, I used the updated ruby which is version 2.3.3, rails which is version 5.0.0.1, but after successfull installation of all the requirements, I tried to run this
rails new ruby_app

Seems to be a windows related issue from last month.
Haven't used ruby on rails in quite a while so I can't reproduce or test (right now) to see if this is true.
From a comment wich was helpful to others:
Go to you config/environments/development.rb and comment out the last
line, something about watching files and listen gem. can't remember
from the top of my head the exact wording, but it is the last line of
config
this is new a new method that rails uses to watch changed files, but
it doesn't work on WSL
I think guard gem will also fail because of this
Bottom line:
Using rails new --skip-spring --skip-listen gives you a working app
I am using rails version 3.2.6 and i recently downgraded from 4.0 because i wanted to work on a 3 version environment because the tutorial im following they are using version 3.
I am on a windows 7 machine and this is what i have done so far.
i first did gem install rails -v 3.2.6
then i did gem uninstall rails, and chose the version i wanted to install.

Since i am using rails on windows, RVM does not work, so i used the pik gem and with that i changed my environment to 3.2.6 and then it worked fine.

Ruby on Rails applications, like most web applications, are usually backed by a database. You specify how to connect to the database in the <project directory>/config/database.yml file. Since this configuration is usually specific to a particular machine, many projects don't include the file in their public source trees.
In this case, you need to create the file and fill in the details yourself. See https://gist.github.com/961978 for example database.yml files for different database servers.
I'm first timer to Ruby on Rails, trying to set it up on RHEL 6. Since the package manager had very older version of Ruby. I compiled from source with Ruby 1.9.3 and installed rails using

I fixed the problem.
I went inside extracted source directory of Ruby then run these.
$cd /ext/openssl/
$ruby extconf.rb
$make
$make install
I hope other will get some help from this. :-)
Your ruby is not compiled with SSL support. Try using rvm:

RailsInstaller now supports Rails 3.1, but promise nothing about previous RC versions. Like #Fabio said, try to update to the latest Rails version (change it in your Gemfile). Also, if you already had a ruby version installed, be sure you are using the RailsInstaller one by checking your system environment path variable. The one and only path to Ruby should be :
C:\RailsInstaller\Ruby1.9.2\bin;
needed to run the following and It resolved the problem:-
gem install rails -v=3.1.0.rc8
