I'm using Visual Studio 2017 version 15.6.5. On my Mac I have XCode 9.3 and Visual Studio for Mac 7.4.2.
Since today, VS for Windows doesn't recognize any iOS Devices any more. The dropdown menu where I normally can select the device only shows "Device". The deployment target of the iOS-Solutions is lower than the iOS version of the devices.
It doesn't matter which device I plugin on the Mac, all are not recognized.
Check Deplyment Target in info.plist
It should be low than SDK(simulator system version) installed in your mac.

I have the problem that I'm not able to see the list of iOS simulators in Visual Studio Debug Target on my Windows PC
I've just made a total upgrade of my Xamarin development environment including now latest VS 2022, latest OS on my Mac, latest XCode version 14 and latest version of Xamarin on my PC and Mac. I have successfully paired to my Mac from Visual Studio.
On my Mac I've just tried to refresh the list of Debug devices as described in Microsoft Docs:
Delete your ~/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Devices folder.
Run killall -9 com.apple.CoreSimulator.CoreSimulatorService.
Run xcrun simctl list devices.
.. but still no result. All I can select in my Debug Target is Local Device, Remote Device and Simulator.
Before this upgrade I had no problem seeing all the simulators.
I will really appreciate if anybody have some good ideas of what I can do to solve this.
Following is my list of installed components from VS About box:
Xamarin 17.3.0.296 (d17-3#a0ff24b)
Visual Studio extension to enable development for Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Android.
Xamarin Designer 17.3.0.208 (remotes/origin/d17-3#e4f67afef)
Visual Studio extension to enable Xamarin Designer tools in Visual Studio.
Xamarin Templates 17.2.28 (9b3d244)
Templates for building iOS, Android, and Windows apps with Xamarin and Xamarin.Forms.
Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Mac SDK 15.12.0.2 (87f98a75e)
Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Mac Reference Assemblies and MSBuild support
Please be noted that XCode 14 is not yet supported in Xamarin.iOS or .NET MAUI, you need downgrade your Xcode version to 13.4.1 and could download it from the downloads page in the Apple Developer Portal. For more information, you can refer to https://github.com/xamarin/xamarin-macios/issues/15954
Update:
Xcode 14 is currently supported and if there are any other issues, please continue to post back to the GitHub.Thanks!
I have this same issue even after installing VS 17.3.6. I have no list of iOS simulators and I get a warning that this version of Xcode is not supported.
I use Visual Studio 2022 on Windows for Xamarin development for Android & iOS. I use a Mac Mini with M1 for the iOS builds. All has been working fine for over a month. A few days ago I allowed the MAC to perform an update. Today when I tried to build for iOS, the Pair To Mac dialog said there was a monoframework mismatch and offered to install monoframework 6.12.0.174 on the MAC. Initially I chose Cancel, and then rebooted both machines. The same error occurred when I tried again. This time I allowed the install. After the install completed, every time I try to use the iOS Simulator it hangs as soon as it appears. I would appreciate some direction. I do not know how to fix it and I do not know how to back-out the mono install on the MAC. Please help.
Solution: I updated Visual Studio & Visual Studio for Mac to the current versions. Then found in the following in the Visual Studio ReleaseNotes:
Known Issues
Deploying an iOS app with Visual Studio 2022 and Apple Xcode 13.3 results in a Remote iOS simulator window with a blank/black screen. Workaround: Disable the “Remote Simulator to Windows” check box in the iOS Settings under the Tools - Options menu. The iOS app should deploy correctly on the macOS host.
Following those instructions I disabled the “Remote Simulator to Windows” check box in the iOS Settings under the Tools - Options menu. The iOS app then deployed correctly, but on the macOS host, no longer can it deploy on the Windows machine from the Mac build host as in prior versions.
How can I change default iOS simulator on Visual Studio for Mac?
When I pair my MacBook with PC, I have a list of iOS simulators available in Visual Studio 2019 ( on Windows). But when I work directly on MacBook, and run Visual Studio for Mac, there's only one (grayed) simulator available and I have no idea how to change it. Checked Solution options, Project settings. But there's no option to change it.
It looks like that now:
How can I fix this issue?
UPDATE #1
Probably this information could help. Some time ago my XCode and Visual Studio were automatically updated to 12.3 and I start getting errors related to missing developer profile. I uninstalled XCode 12.3 and Visual Studio and installed previous versions. Now XCode version is 12.2 and the error message related to the developer profile is gone. Maybe it somehow connected to the issue I have.
Current XCode version: 12.2 (12B45b)
Visual Studio for Mac version:
8.8.4 (build 30)
Operating system: macOS Catalina 10.15.7
UPDATE #2
I've updated MacOS to version Big Sur
Also I have uninstalled XCode and installed again version 12.3
And I've uninstalled Visual Studio for Mac and installed it again.
The problem still persists.
UPDATE #3
Below, there is information about versions:
Operating system: MacOS Big Sur, version 11.1
XCode version: 12.3 (12c33)
Visual Studio For Mac, version 8.8.6 (Build 15)
Xamarin.iOS: 6.18.0.23 (d16-6/088c73638). Package Version: 612000113
Minimum system version (in Info.plist): 11.0
I reproduce this issue on my mac. You could follow the stpes below.
Open the XCode. Click Window tab to open the Device and Simulators.
Click Simulators on left side. Then Click + at the bottom left to create a new eimulator.
After that close and restart the VS.
And now, you could use the ios simulators.
I am trying to learn more about Xamarin in my free time. So far I have created a simple Xamarin Forms app with a UWP target and an Android target. I want to add an IOS target now.
Therefore I have purchased a MacBook Pro with Mojave 10.14.6. I have installed Xcode 11 (11A420a) and Visual Studio 2019 version 8.3.1 (I believe) on the Mac. I have opened Visual Studio 2019 on my Windows PC (version 16.0.3) and successfully paired the Mac.
I then created a Hello World Xamarin Forms app that is targeted by IOS on the Windows PC. The app runs, however I just see a black screen in the simulator. I have spent all day Googling this and have got no-where. Is version 11 of Xcode supported by Visual Studio 2019 and Xamarin on a Windows PC? What can I do?
Is version 11 of XCode supported by Visual Studio 2019 and Xamarin on
a Windows PC?
Yes, it is suppported.
I cannot see a project options in the build menu.
Right click the iOS project--> option --> iOS build --> link behavior, I will show you the screenshot.
And
Update:
To the original question, update the Visual-Studio to the latest version(16.3.2) will solve it.
If you have iOS 13 SDK on the Mac you'll need Visual Studio 16.3.2 or greater on your Windows machine.
I'd like to deploy/debug my Cordova app to the iPad Pro simulator located on my Mac using Visual Studio 2015 (TACO Update 10) but that simulator is not listed in the dropdown in Visual Studio:
How can I do that?
Currently iPad Pro hasn't been targeted in Tools for Apache Cordova.
To workaround this issue, you can :
Do the build target any simulator.
Copy the platform/iOS folder to your Mac.
Open the XCode project in your Mac and target iPad Pro.
For details please refer to Open a Project within Xcode.
