We run Bamboo CI Server.
There are a number of misconfigured plans (who don't correctly inherit the build.xml from the template project in our version control, or who don't set -D properties correctly according to our internal standards) that will trigger an Ant's input task.
While my template project prevents inputs by detecting whether we are running or not in Bamboo, this is not developer-fail-proof.
I would like to ask if there is any way to either crash Ant, or redirect the stdin to /dev/null at Bamboo instance level.
Currently, plans stuck at inputs will simply wait indefinitely until the main plan timeout rings, which could be a great idea to reduce.

I am currently learning the ins and outs of Jenkins and Pipeline.
One thing I do not yet understand is the following:
A Jenkins job by default can be executed concurrently (I can check the checkbox "Do not allow concurrent builds" if I don't want that).
What I don't understand is the following:
Let say Jenkins checks out code in /var/lib/jenkins/workspace/my-project-workspace/
Now how would it be possible to run concurrent builds without conflicts?
Let's say that build nr 1 checks out code in that path and starts testing it, and while doing that, build nr 2 is started and checks out code in that same path.
How will that not conflict with build nr 1?
I am probably missing something obvious here... Please help :)
The subdirectory inside the workspace/ folder will not always be your project name, but a (randomly) generated directory name. That's all the magic.
When this option is checked, multiple builds of this project may be executed in parallel.
By default, only a single build of a project is executed at a time — any other requests to start building that project will remain in the build queue until the first build is complete.
This is a safe default, as projects can often require exclusive access to certain resources, such as a database, or a piece of hardware.
But with this option enabled, if there are enough build executors available that can handle this project, then multiple builds of this project will take place in parallel. If there are not enough available executors at any point, any further build requests will be held in the build queue as normal.
Enabling concurrent builds is useful for projects that execute lengthy test suites, as it allows each build to contain a smaller number of changes, while the total turnaround time decreases as subsequent builds do not need to wait for previous test runs to complete.
This feature is also useful for parameterized projects, whose individual build executions — depending on the parameters used — can be completely independent from one another.
Each concurrently executed build occurs in its own build workspace, isolated from any other builds. By default, Jenkins appends "#" to the workspace directory name, e.g. "#2".
The separator "#" can be changed by setting the hudson.slaves.WorkspaceList Java system property when starting Jenkins. For example, "hudson.slaves.WorkspaceList=-" would change the separator to a hyphen.

However, if you enable the Use custom workspace option, all builds will be executed in the same workspace. Therefore caution is required, as multiple builds may end up altering the same directory at the same time. enter image description here
This seems simple enough, but I can't find a solution for this online.
I am integrating SonarQube into our build definitions that get triggered on check in. I want the version SonarQube uses to be tied back to the project number defined by the business side of things.
Ideally, I would like to be able to prompt the user for input. When you go to check in and it kicks off the build, it would ask you for the project number to be used as the version for SonarQube. Is this something TFS 2015 supports?
User input for build definitions
As far as I know, build definitions that are not manually triggered do not prompt for user input. A prompt allowing users to set build variables is shown for manually triggered builds from the VSTS web page.
SonarQube project version
I would recommend against you using the build or assembly version in your build tasks. This is because the SonarQube concept of version is quite different from the build concept. SonarQube uses versions as a baselining mechanism / to determine the leak period. If you up the version number often, the leak period is going to be too short to be actionable.
I'd recommend keeping the SonarQube project version in sync with your release schedule instead.
The short answer to this question is no, there is no way to prompt for input on a non-manually triggered CI build.
Here's what we did to work around this:
I wrote a Powershell script to read a config file and set the values to environment variables exposed to later build steps. Those variables are then what are specified in the Sonar Begin Analysis build task. I packaged that script up as a custom build task that will read a "sonar.config" file. This means all we have to do is add a "sonar.config" file to each solution we want to run Sonar analysis for, defining the key, name and version for the project, and then this build task will populate all necessary environment variables as the first step in the build.
So not a perfect solution, but it gets the job done without us having to add a lot of extra code to our solutions.
I'd like to get a hint how (which plugin) it is possible run SINGLE Jenkins job by the user chosen way. User MUST be able to choose the job he/she wants to run and choose the rule of execution:
E.g:
Create only jar files;
Create jars and send them over ssh
Create jars, generate documentation, etc...
I've found out a few plugins (Artifactory, Release plugin) but seems they don't support such logic.
I know that such thing can be implemented by creating several jobs, but this would require additional disk space.

In order to solve my issue, I've decided to create a few Jenkins jobs with the same custom workspace. So that, when a IT engineer runs any of these "connected" (which have the same workspace) jobs the workspace is updated (have a look at the CVS rules for your job) and that's why we avoid wasting of space.
Additionally, its (job) behaviour can be configured easily => the sets of rules (shell scripts, gradle, batch etc) and their sequence in order to achieve the desired result.
The last advantage, but not the least one, is that the security (access control) is still very easy to configure.
I think, that is the correct way.
I have a scenario where there are several independent jmx files, each of them has their own threadgroup etc. Using JMeter Ant script I can fire them all in sequence and collect the result in a jtl file. My challenge here is to do the same thing but fire off the tests in parallel. Please note that Include Controller is not an option since I want to use(or honor) the ThreadGroup and User Defined Variables in each jmx files.

Perhaps Parallel Ant Task is what you're looking for.
However <parallel> directive is not thread safe so I wouldn't recommend to use it with JMeter Ant task and consider using i.e. command-line mode, maven plugin or custom Java class which will spawn individual JMeter tests with it.

Yes, Ant parallel solves this problem.
We have an app.exe that uses another 3rd party installation wizard app, InstallAnywhere, to install our application.
It is a text-based wizard - meaning a new shell is spawned (and the child process is executing some java.exe in order for its wizard steps to work) when
app.exe -i console
in the parent shell is executed.
Can pexpect be used in this case as a kind of question/answer interaction ?
We tried it with Hudson but it appears that Hudson can only monitor the parent process and not its child process. When Hudson job kicks off the python script, it starts but fails to begin at step 1 of the wizard - it hangs.
How can we overcome this ?

If I'm reading this correctly, you want to interact with your executing installer (in this case, using pexpect) during a Hudson job, probably to do automated testing.
I'm thinking that expect may get you where you want to go if you call expect from a shell script (or batch file) that is, in turn, run from Hudson. The script would execute the tests, using your favorite flavor of expect, during which it either exits successfully or fails. Hudson would detect the failure, and you could then react accordingly. Your script, and any expect messages, would write to stdout, which Hudson would collect into your build log.
However, Flexera has a testing framework that allows you to test an installer via JUnit. Look at the bottom of this page. Or check out the JavaDocs.
This might give you more precision than an expect hack. You might even be able to write a Hudson plugin and do way with expect and shell scripts completely.
Update: after looking over the Javadocs, I found that the main class GUIAutomationFixture uses Java's Robot class. This means you probably won't be able to run this class on a headless server. You'll likely need either Windows, or a Linux/Unix box with a working X system.
