I have very minimal knowledge in writing dynamic queries. As part some implementation I have a need to write a DB2 DELETE query which should be able to delete the rows, as well as it should return the count of rows affected.
So that this query will be put in a DB2 stored procedure, where I have have this count as an OUT parameter.
I was trying as below, which is returning the count but doesn't delete the rows.

AND DATE(JOINING_DATE) < CURRENT DATE - 120 MONTHS;
However this can be achieved using two individual queries i.e. one for select and another for delete, but I am looking for one single query to achieve this.
If you are using SQL PL procedures in Db2, you can use the GET DIAGNOSTICS statement to return the number of rows affected by a previous insert/update/delete. See the documentation at this page.
Example:

If you are using a programming language other than SQL PL, with access to the SQLCA, then this information is also present in a part of the SQLCA (specifically SQLERRD(3)).

Consider an enterprise that captures sensor data for different production facilities. per facility, we create an aggregation query that averages the values to 5min timeslots. This query exists out of a long list of with-clauses and writes data to a table (called aggregation_table).
Now my problem: currently we have n queries running that exactly run the same logic, the only thing that differs are table names (and sometimes column names but let's ignore that for now).
Instead of managing n different scripts that are basically the same, I would like to put it in a stored procedure that is able to work like this:
CALL aggregation_query(facility_name) -> resolve the different tables for that facility and then use them in the different with clauses
On top of that, instead of having this long set of clauses that give me the end-result, I would like to chunk them up in logical blocks that are parametrizable, So for example, if I call the aforementioned stored_procedure for facility A, I want to be able to pass / use this table name in these different functions, where the output can be re-used in the next statement (like you would do with with clauses).
Another argument of why I want to chunk this up in re-usable blocks is because we have many "derivatives" on this aggregation query, for example to manage historical data, to correct data or to have the sensor data on another aggregation level. As these become overly complex, it is much easier to manage them without having to copy paste and adjust these every time.
In the current set-up, it could be useful to know that I am only entitled to use plain BigQuery, As my team is not allowed to access the CI/CD / scheduling and repository. (meaning that I cannot solve the issue by having CI/CD that deploys the n different versions of the procedure and functions)
So in the end, I would like to end up with something like this using only bigquery:

I was hoping someone could make a snippet on how I can do this in Standard SQL / Bigquery, so basically:
stored procedure that takes in a string variable and is able to use that as a table (partly solved in the approach above, but not sure if there are better ways)
(table) function that is able to take this table_name parameter as well and return back a table that can be used in the next with clause (or alternatively writes to a temp table)

You can also use a loop to iterate trough records from a working table so it will execute the procedure and also be able to get the value from the procedure to use somewhere else.ie:A second procedure to perform a delete operation.

I'm trying to obtain 2 different resultset from stored procedure, based on a single query. What I'm trying to do is that:
1.) return query result into OUT cursor;
2.) from this cursor results, get all longest values in each column and return that as second OUT
resultset.
I'm trying to avoid doing same thing twice with this - get data and after that get longest column values of that same data. I'm not sure If this is even possible, but If It is, can somebody show me HOW ?

I know It's a silly example, but I've been investigating and testing all sorts of things (implicit cursors, fetching cursors, nested cursors, etc.) and found nothing that would help me, specially when working with stored procedure returning multiple resultsets.
My overall goal with this is to shorten data export time for Excel. Currently I have to run same query twice - once for calculating data size to autofit Excel columns, and then for writing data into Excel.
I believe that manipulating first resultset in order to get second one would be much faster - with less DB cycles made.
I'm using Oracle 11g, Any help much appreciated.
Each row of data from a cursor can be read exactly once; once the next row (or set of rows) is read from the cursor then the previous row (or set of rows) cannot be returned to and the cursor cannot be re-used. So what you are asking is impossible as if you read the cursor to find the maximum values (ignoring that you can't use a cursor as a source in a SELECT statement but, instead, you could read it using a PL/SQL loop) then the cursor's rows would have been "used up" and the cursor closed so it could not be read from when it is returned from the procedure.
You would need to use two separate queries:

Just for theoretical purposes, it is possible to only read from the table once if you bulk collect the data into a collection then select from a table-collection expression (however, it is going to be more complicated to code/maintain and is going to require that the rows from the table are stored in memory [which your DBA might not appreciate if the table is large] and may not be more performant than compared to just querying the table twice as you'll end up with three SELECT statements instead of two).

I've got multiple master tables in the same format with the same variables. I now want to left join another variable but I can't combine the master tables due to limited storage on my computer. Is there a way that I can left join a variable onto multiple master tables within one PROC SQL? Maybe with the help of a macro?
The LEFT JOIN code looks like this for one join but I'm looking for an alternative than to copy and paste this 5 times:

You can't do it in one create table statement, as it only creates one table at a time. But you can do a few things, depending on what your actual limiting factor is (you mention a few).
If you simply want to avoid writing the same code five times, but otherwise don't care how it executes, then just write the code in a macro, as you reference.

Of course, if the names of the five tables are in a pattern, you can perhaps automate this further based on that pattern, but you don't give sufficient information to figure that out.
If you on the other hand need to do this more efficiently in terms of processing than running the SQL query five times, it can be done a number of ways, depending on the specifics of your additional table and your specific limitations. It looks to me that you have a good use case for a format lookup here, for example; see for example Jenine Eason's paper, Proc Format, a Speedy Alternative to Sort/Merge. If you're just merging on the ID, this is very easy.

I want to get the number of selected rows as well as the selected data. At the present I have to use two sql statements:
one is
select * from XXX where XXX;
the other is
select count(*) from XXX where XXX;
Can it be realised with a single sql string?
I've checked the source code of sqlite3, and I found the function of sqlite3_changes(). But the function is only useful when the database is changed (after insert, delete or update).

SQL can't mix single-row (counting) and multi-row results (selecting data from your tables). This is a common problem with returning huge amounts of data. Here are some tips how to handle this:
Read the first N rows and tell the user "more than N rows available". Not very precise but often good enough. If you keep the cursor open, you can fetch more data when the user hits the bottom of the view (Google Reader does this)
Instead of selecting the data directly, first copy it into a temporary table. The INSERT statement will return the number of rows copied. Later, you can use the data in the temporary table to display the data. You can add a "row number" to this temporary table to make paging more simple.
Fetch the data in a background thread. This allows the user to use your application while the data grid or table fills with more data.

To get the number of unique titles, you need to pass the DISTINCT clause to the COUNT function as the following statement:

For those who are still looking for another method, the more elegant one I found to get the total of row was to use a CTE.
this ensure that the count is only calculated once :

the only drawback is if a WHERE clause is needed, it should be applied in both main query and CTE query.
In the first comment, Alttag said that there is no issue to run 2 queries. I don't agree with that unless both are part of a unique transaction. If not, the source table can be altered between the 2 queries by any INSERT or DELETE from another thread/process. In such case, the count value might be wrong.
Once you already have the select * from XXX results, you can just find the array length in your program right?
If you use sqlite3_get_table instead of prepare/step/finalize you will get all the results at once in an array ("result table"), including the numbers and names of columns, and the number of rows. Then you should free the result with sqlite3_free_table

I have two tables - tool_downloads and tool_configurations. I am trying to retrieve the most recent build date for each tool in my database. The layout of the DB is simple. One table called tool_downloads keeps track of when a tool is downloaded. Another table is called tool_configurations and stores the actual data about the tool. They are linked together by the tool_conf_id.
If I run the following query which omits dates, I get back 200 records.

When I try to add in date information I get back hundreds of thousands of records! Here is the query that fails horribly.
