I tried to create a service menu so that I can print pdf files directly from dolphin's context menu.
Here's the print-pdf.desktop file:
[Desktop Action print-pdf]
Exec=/home/me/.kde/share/kde4/services/print-pdf.sh %D %U
Icon=stock_print
Name=Print PDF
[Desktop Entry]
Actions=print-pdf
Icon=print
MimeType=application/pdf
ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin
Type=Service
X-KDE-Priority=TopLevel
And here's the script it's supposed to execute:
#! /bin/bash
for FILE in *.pdf;
do lp $FILE;
done
However, as to be expected, all pdf files are printing at once instead of only those selected. I tried using '$1' as well, but that did nothing.
Is there a way to tell dolphin to process only selected files?
Following the .desktop spec, we can use %f to pass in a single file as an argument (%D is deprecated).
Using %f has the additional benefit that we do not need to loop over the selected files ourselves.
So to make your service menu work, replace the Exec=... line with
Exec=lp %f
Furthermore the .desktop file has to be placed in
~/.local/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/
to be recognised by Dolphin. I wish this was documented somewhere.

I am using a luvit Lua environment to run my lua code through my control panel. I am looking to write to a .txt file, but with the simple code that i am running, its not working.
The reason I wish to write to a .txt file is to log notices from my Discord Bot I am working on in the Discordia library.
I have a folder called MezzaBOT. In this file i have a write.lua file and also a log.txt file. I have this simple code in my write.lua file:
io.output('log.txt')
io.write('hello\n')
io.close()
I then run in my command promt with Luvit environment:
>luvit Desktop\mezzabot\write.lua
I don't get any errors but the log.txt file continues to stay empty. Am I missing a line in my code, or do i need to access log.txt differently?
edit: my new code is the following
file = io.open('log.txt')
file:write('hello', '\n')
file:close()
and it is not making a new line for each time with \n
edit B:
Ok, i found my problem, its creating a log.txt in my C:\Users\PC.
One other problem is when writing, its not making a new line with the \n. Can someone please help me?
Lua, by default, opens files in read mode. You need to explicitly open a file in write mode if you want to write to it (see manual)
file = io.open('log.txt', 'w')
file:write('hello', '\n')
file:close()
Should work :)
I want to use TextEdit to save data. what I have so far
tell application "TextEdit"
open /Users/UserName/Desktop/save.rtf
end tell
This gives me
"Expected “given”, “in”, “of”, expression, “with”, “without”, other parameter name, etc. but found unknown token."
and highlights the . in .rtf I tried removing the .rtf
but when I compile it it turns into
(open) / Users / username / desktop / (save)
This code gives "The variable Users is not defined."
also if possible can I have TextEdit run in the background without opening a window?
Put quotes around the path and use POSIX file to get a file object for the path:
tell application "TextEdit"
open POSIX file "/Users/UserName/Desktop/save.rtf"
end tell
You can modify the text of a document by changing the text property:
tell application "TextEdit"
set text of document 1 to text of document 1 & "aa"
end tell
It removes all styles in rich text documents. It also inserts the text as 12-point Helvetica in plain text documents, regardless of the default font.
Creating a new rtf file:
tell application "TextEdit"
make new document at beginning with properties {text:"aa"}
close document 1 saving in POSIX file "/tmp/a.rtf"
end tell
printf %s\\n aa | textutil -inputencoding UTF-8 -convert rtf -stdin -output a.rtf
I'm writing a reporting script that's part of a portable testing package. The user can unzip the package anywhere on their system, which is fine, but it means I can't hardcode a path.
Let's say that on my system, this script lives at C:/projects/testpackage/foo/bar/script.tcl. I need to set a variable, packageLocation, the path to /testpackage. In this example, it would be C:/Projects/testpackage. But when the user gets the package, he or she could put it anywhere, like so:
C:/Users/whatever/testpackage.
So, how can I call two levels up from the location of my currently running script? In Batch, I could do
:: example.bat
cd %~dp0
cd ../..
set packageLocation=%cd%
In Tcl, I'm lost. I know that the current location of the running script can be called as $::argv0. I've tried using cd ../.., but to no avail. It tries to set packageLocation as "../..C:/Projects/testpackage/foo/bar/script.tcl."
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
set where [file normalize [file dirname [info script]]]
set parts [file split $where]
set pkgloc [file join {*}[lrange $parts 0 end-2]]
Should do what you want.
It goes like this:
Obtains the directory name of the file from which the current script was read to be evaluated, then normalizes it (replaces ~, .. etc).
Splits obtained full pathname at path separators producing a list of path components.
Extracts a new list from the list of path components containing all them from the beginning except the last two, then joins them back to produce the final name.
If you have Tcl < 8.5, the last line will have to be rewritten:
set last [expr {[llength $parts] - 3}]
set pkgloc [eval [list file join] [lrange $parts 0 $last]]

While doing Selection Printing on Ricoh Afficio 2090 or any other drivers/printers get the following error printed on the sheets
ERROR: undefined
OFFENDING COMMAND: F4S47
Stack:
.
Kindly Review and suggest a turn around for the same as i am already stuck in this hell. I have tried to convert/extract in PS but all in vain. I am using gsview to Print and view these files.
This is the problem:
%%PageOrder: Special
A ps document with "Special" page order can NOT be re-ordered. You cannot do a selection or range with this file because it is broken for this use. You must reprocess the file using Distiller or ghostscript (ps2ps or ps2pdf) in order to print selected or re-ordered pages from the document.
You can avoid this by generating your postscript files with a real Postscript™ driver (one not created by Microsoft).
The GSView Documentation has more about this.
Previously:
This line ...
%%TargetDevice: (HP Color LaserJet 4500) (2014.200) 0
... tells us that the file was generated with HP printers as a target. So this really is not an EPS file. Because it's not Encapsulatable. To generate output on a printer the file has to execute the showpage operator, which is a no-no for EPS files.
So uncheck the EPS box (it's a big fat lie, anyway), and select (install) a Generic Postscript driver. If you need to send it to multiple makes of printer, the file needs to make as few assumptions about the printer as possible.
The first thing is that this is not a valid EPS file, as it has PJL attached at the front. Many PostScript printers will strip this off, but by no means all.
This probably is not the source of the problem.
There is no way to 'review' the problem as you have not supplied the complete PostScript program. Without that there is no way to tell what is actually wrong, the error message tells you that the interpreter encountered 'F4547' while trying to parse a token, and that this has not been defined as a routine.
Most likely the file is corrupt, either damaged in some way, or possibly it is a biinary file and has been transmitted by some process which does has done some kind of conversion (CR/LF is common). The offending command looks like its ASCIIHex encoded, so that may be a red herring.
If you want additional help, you are going to have to make the whole program available somewhere.
I'm just wondering if there is some IDE command line parameter which would open a source file on a specified line (in the current view) ?
I know this is probably too much to publish as a command line parameter, but it would be great for my Assert logging system; I would just create a link (label or something) and through this link open the file on the line where the assertion has happened.
The only thing I found is the registry entry (valid for Delphi 2007)
Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Borland\BDS\5.0\Closed Files\
Value:
TSourceModule,'<FilePath>',0,<PositionX>,<PositionY>,<CursorX>,<CursorY>,0,0,,
Where:
<FilePath> - the full file path
<PositionX> - first visible char in horizontal scope
<PositionY> - first visible char in vertical scope
<CursorX> - cursor position in horizontal scope
<CursorY> - cursor position in vertical scope
The rest of this key value I don't know but it might be enough to create this key and open the file.
Thanks
Following discussion in the comments to the question, it appears that you would be satisfied with writing a small utility to generate a fake .dsk file (desktop file) and possibly a matching fake .dproj file (project file). The .dsk file would contain just enough information to trick the IDE into opening the required file and moving to the desired location within that file.
