Is there a formula on spreadsheet that will remove the rows if the value of the cell is empty? For example =if(A2 = "","hide row A1", "show A1"). I am using Google Form and Form Publisher addons to generate new spreadsheet base on the value that I have inputted on my forms.
Or is there any way to do this?

Formulas are just Custom Functions return value(s), you need to solve that with Script or hide it manually.

Formulas just return a value or an array of values, they can't hide/show rows. You could use FILTER, QUERY among other combined Google Sheets functions to return just the need values.
Another alternate is the use of Google Apps Script
You cannot hide the row but can make its contents invisible. Use conditional formatting to change font color of entire row to 'white'

I've tried to use the basic conditional formatting, and tried googling, but all answers are based on a number value and don't apply when I try to use the same custom formula.

I have a Google Sheets table of names and statistics that go along with said names. I'm trying to use a dropdown menu on a specific cell so that when I select a specific name from the dropdown, all of the cells that start with the same name will be highlighted.
Assuming the dropdown is in B2. Please select entire sheet and: Format > Conditional formatting..., Format cells if... Custom formula is and:
=regexmatch(A1,"^"&$B$2)
with highlighting of your choice and Done.
Since for all of the cells that start with the same name this could be slow.
custom formula: =IF(I1=H$4, 1)
I've been working on a dashboard in Google Sheets. When I select a text criterion from a dropdown on the dashboard (say the location Manhattan) I want to be able to highlight a row corresponding to that same text on a different sheet. The idea is that the dropdown is generated from the same sheet and I want to have this easier to read as a result.
I read from Conditional Formatting from another sheet that it's not possible (at least a few years ago) directly to reference another sheet in Conditional Formatting except by utilizing the INDIRECT function. From what I can tell, this does not work with text.
Is there a way around this or should I rethink how to make my highlighting a possibility?
I know I could just have the text in the dropdown change on a portion of the sheet and then base the conditional on that, but I was hoping to simplify this. This will affect three other sheets when I'm done with it, so less would be more. I have not experimented with add-ons at all at this point.
Assuming the dropdown is in A1 and row length in other sheet is A:Z then select ColumnsA:Z in the other sheet and Format > Conditional formatting..., for Format cells if... select Custom formula is and enter:
=$A1=indirect("Dashboard!A1")
with formatting of choice then click Done.
I have a google sheets document where I have cells A1:Z1. In AA1, I have a value total. If that value is greater than 5, I would like A1:Z1 to be highlighted in red. I then want to do this for every row down the sheet. Could somebody help be out with this? I tried using other answers here, but I can't get it to work.
First of all take a look at Use conditional formatting rules in Google Sheets.
On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
Select the cells you want to apply format rules to (A1:Z1).
Click Format and then Conditional formatting. A toolbar will open to the right.
Under the "Format cells if" drop-down menu, click Custom formula is. If there's already a rule, click it or Add new rule > and then Custom formula is.
On custom formula put this =SUM(A1:Z1) > 5
Choose other formatting properties.
Click Done.
The result will be this.
I have made a simple formula, based on cells in the same row, to indicate to the user that they have entered enough information - and it works as needed .

However, when I click the built in "add more rows" button at the bottom of the sheet the formula is not present in the new cell - but any dropdown menu or validation I've used in the cells not containing the formula are present in the respective added cells of the new row. Any Ideas why just the formula is missing ? Thanks.

When you add additional rows, Sheets assumes you want to continue the same dataset and, therefore, applies the existing formatting as well as Data Validation. It does not, however, copy formulas automatically as that would be adding actual new data to your sheet.
You can use an ArrayFormula version of your formula to populate the entire column, which it would continue to do as you'll add more rows of data. Assuming your data starts at row 2 (below the header), try this:
