I want to customize my tableview. I want to add another tableview in cell. Can we add tableview in cell of another tableview?
Please give me some ideas.
You can embed a UITableView into another UITableView's cell, but due to potential issues with the embedded UIScrollViews it is not recommended.
If you feel like you need a table in a table, first consider if it is not possible to achieve the desired behavior by using sections and cells in the sections (a section in a table might represent the top tableView's cell, and cells in the given section would represent the embedded tableView's cells).
There is no problem with adding a UITableView into a a UITableViewCell, since both of them are UIViews its simply would be translated to adding a subview to a view...
However, keep in mind to consider the following issues:
1- From a user experience perspective, that would be a vertical scroll view inside another vertical scroll view (are you ok with that?).
2- For each cell -in the main container table view-, you would need to handle the table view delegates/datasources. For understanding the logic of how this could be done, you might want to check:
Is it possible to add UITableView within a UITableViewCell.
Putting a UICollectionView in a UITableViewCell in Swift: although it is about adding a UICollectionView inside the cell, it helps to gain the logic of how to achieve such a task.

There is a main table view and inside each of the main table view cell has their own header table view. Then each of the header table view cell has their own sub-header table view. All the table rows don't have fixed counts according to the dynamic data. What I try to achieve is when a cell of the main table view is expanded, I should see the header table view cells unexpanded. After a header table view cell is expended, I should see the sub-header table view. I need a solution without using libraries.
I provided the storyboard UI based on what I want to achieve.
To deal with expandable cells (or cells inside cells effect) I recommend using UIStackView inside UITableViewCell and add inside needed views with data.
For example you can create UIView inside Xib file and load it inside needed UITableViewCell then add to UIStackView and fill with data.
Then you can simply hide/unhide elements inside UIStackView to archive expanding/unxpanding.
This way or other you should use 1 UITableView.
I once made a 1 step expandable Table View.
Here is what I did to achieve that.
Do not make different table views for each hierarchy. That will be difficult to manage. Instead, make one table view but change the type of cell you want to show. If the cell is top level cell or first level cell or the second level cell, change the design of each one that.
The data source will then have list of list of list to denote the 2 level expandable UITableView.
To open and close the table view, you can simply change the data source and reload or use beginUpdates and endUpdates
I have attached the below image because it describes my problem better than words:
So basically, I need the Title/Subtitles part at the top to always be static, after that a dynamic UITableView which will have a lot of cells (mostly will fill the rest of the screen), and then after that a few additional elements such as a Map View and etc.
I'm using storyboards/xibs for this so it was also an issue of how to constraint everything in the designer properly. Would a stack or scroll view be appropriate for this?
I think you can take two paths to achieve this.
The first is to create a custom cell containing the map and another containing the "Paragraph of text" thing.
Then you only need to push the cells at the end of the original data source.
Keep in mind that you need to add this cells to the RowsInSection function.
The other way is add a custom footer view to the tableView.
You can create a custom UIView containing the map an other info and then tell the table to take the custom view as footer:
tableView.tableFooterView = customView
I'm building my application with Swift and I want to set up TableView and CollectionView in the same ViewController.
The only answer I founded is to setup my CollectionView in the TableViewCell of the TableView.
I did it but it scrolls separately.
The solution I found is to disable CollectionView scrolling and then configure CollectionView's height constraint programmatically by summing heights of the cells. It isn't perfect at all because cells become non reusable (250+).
I'm in desperation because I have seen this setup in many other apps and I think that answer is so simple but I can not find it anywhere.
Can anyone please help me? Thank you a lot!
Another option is to set it up as a single collection view with two sections, one that looks and lays out as a tableview and the other that has the more collection view appearance.
Or set it up as a single table view with two sections, one of which displays two side-by-side images per line (this is the old school way of creating this layout.)
Lots of ways to go about it, depending on what you want to play with and what you want to learn :)
You can put a UITableView and UICollectionView inside a UIViewController, and implement UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource and UICollectionViewDataSource.
Keys:
Use AutoLayout to make sure tableView has only two rows, and
collectionView takes the rest of area.
Make sure tableView.scrollEnabled = false

Set up a blank ViewController. Then place two ContainmentViewControllers inside of the ViewController. Size them however you want based on how much screen you want to the be tableview and how much you want to be collectionview. Then create segues from each containmentViewController to your tableviewcontroller and collectionviewcontroller using embed. This will allow both to be on screen at once and scroll separately.
If you do not need to use a TableViewController and can get away with just a tableview you can also just place one containmentviewcontroller below your tableview and create the embed segue to your collectionviewcontroller.
I am making an app that use table View Controller and static cell.
I want to make first cell don't scrolling while other can. This is a picture of what i am talking about.(Sorry for my bad English)
For example as in this picture, I want to make 9gag tab stay when scroll. If you play instragram you will see that when you scrolling the name of user will stay until you scroll into another one. However I want it to stay not changing when it encounter second cell.
Any suggestion?
Using UITableViewController would not help here. You can use these steps to get what you want:
1. Create a UIViewController.
2. Add UITableView as its subview.
3. Add another UIView as UIViewController's view's subview.
4. Using auto layout constraints, you can put UIView above UITableView
This way, you will get a sticky view at the top.
Ok, not exactly sure what you're after but i'll take a stab.
Firstly, if you want the section to remain in place until a new section of items is present, you just need have a look at sections. This is an automatic feature. You may not see it occur until you have plenty of items in the sections.
UITableView With Multiple Sections
There's plenty of stuff about it & not too hard to implement.
My other guess of what you want:
If you want it to remain static regardless of anything, perhaps you could just create a view and place it above the table view. why does it need to be a part of it if it doesn't change?
I have tried looking for an answer to this question but so far I haven't got any luck.
Context
I have a UITableView inside a standard UIViewController (NOT a UITableViewController..). I have subclassed UITableViewCell and all the cells in the tableview are from the same class.
Requirement
I would like to find an efficient way to resize the cells based on the scrolling of the tableview. For example, when the cell is at the bottom of the visible list, the height is X. When the cell moves up on the screen, its height should proportionally increase to 2X.
Additional Info
I am close to just ditch the UITableView way and start making my own control that would implement such a feat by subclassing a UIScrollView. However, I would like to see if it is possible before going this path. I did see some very interesting SO posts but nothing that would put me on the right path.
Any hint or help would be highly appreciated.
You would need to respond to the scroll view delegate method scrollViewDidScroll: and implement it to record the cell at the top of the table view and reload the table view. Then your table view delegate method tableView:heightForRowAtIndexPath: sets the cell height by the relationship between the index path and the top cell index path.
Your main issue is performance while reloading the table view all the time.
If you wanted to roll your own solution it would be along the lines of the above description anyway, but you would be able to be more efficient than the table view as the table view will call the tableView:heightForRowAtIndexPath: method once for every row for every reload in order to calculate the total height of the table content.
