Resolution required when creating a new bug - jira

Whenever I edit a bug in jira where the resolution is set to unresolved I get an error indicating the resolution is a required field. Sometimes the bug hasn't yet been resolved but will be and I just need to update some info on the ticket.
Resolution does not appear on that edit screen until I try and save, then it pops up. I also have a POST function set in the issue workflow transitions that should update the resolution on the bug. I am new to serving as scrum master so I am sure I am missing something but I haven't been able to figure it out. Ideas?

The resolution field is probably set to "required" in the admin settings for field types. This is tricky to get working as intended, and probably unnecessary for your application, so I suggest simply clearing that setting.

TFS 2015 board customization error - Field identifier does not exist or is invalid

We have amended our WIT definitions for Bug and User Story to include some new states. In accordance with that, the processConfig has also be updated.
Everything looks OK but when we try to configure the board (using the cog wheel link below the burndown chart)
we get the following error when attempted to check the 'Show ID' checkbox on any of the work item types.
The error is as follows:
An error has prevented us from saving your settings. Please review the error messages before continuing. You may need to refresh your page and try again.
Field identifier 'Microsoft.VSTS.Scheduling.RemainingWork' does not exist or is invalid for 'Bug' card type.
The ReminaingWork field is not present in our bug definition - and I don't think it should be. It's as if TFS is saying that the only way it will allow bugs on the board is to include that field. This isn't right as bugs are already appearing on the board - I just want to include some additional information (i.e. the ID).
I think part of my issue is my understanding of how the WIT definitions and the processConfig relate to one another. The states in both map correctly but there clearly is something that I am missing...
The error is telling you precisely what the problem is. You're trying to treat bugs as tasks; tasks need the Remaining Work field to be factored into capacity planning and burndowns.

Jira - attempting to make a field NOT REQUIRED

We have an existing text field 'Defect Found Version' (DFV) and a new Field I have created 'Defect Found Version Picker'
I have made the Picker mandatory & that works fine, listing all the cersions on the project.
The DFV field is set to 'Optional' on the right hand side of the Configure Field layout page, however next to the name on the left there is the text REQUIRED & I can not see how to disable this.
Even if I remove this field from all screens I get an error when I create a bug saying that DFV is required.
Any thoughts please ?
Look at the Field Configuration Scheme used by the JIRA project. Then look at the field configuration used for that issue type. That's where it is being made required. Unless it's because of the JIRA Behaviour plugin, so check if that is active
Do you have take a look on your Workflow validator ?
Sometimes, it's required on your workflow, and not on your screen.

Umbraco says it's saved changes to templates but the changes are lost

Each time I make a change to an Umbraco template and press Save, I get the confirmation popup saying:
Template saved
Template saved without any errors!
However, when I return to that template (click on another template and then back again), the changes have been lost.
I've ensured that the user account running my IIS application pool has Full Control over the \Views folder containing the .cshtml files (i.e. the Umbraco templates).
Strangely this just started happening, after it had been letting me make template changes with no problems. I can manually edit the .cshtml files on disk, but this seems ridiculous.
Any ideas?
A couple of things:
1) Have you checked that the following Windows accounts have full permissions for all folders "IUSR", "IIS_IUSRS", "NETWORK SERVICE" ?
2) Probably not but I have had problems in the past with caching. Have you disabled (set from True to False) caching properties in /config/umbracoSettings.config ? This should always be done during development.
OK, I'll provide an answer for others' future reference (although the reasons are unclear to me). It appears the change I was making to my Template must've been deemed invalid by Umbraco - when I strip the template text down to just a single, empty div and save it, the change is persisted successfully.
The confusing thing is that Umbraco provides no feedback as to why it's not saving - in fact it tells you that it HAS saved successfully.
Bizarre and confusing.
Just been editing my templates and got this problem. Fixed it by doing the following:
sign out of umbraco
clear your browsing data
sign back into umbraco
always be sure to copy and paste your code somewhere to keep it safe, and it can be easily pasted back in. Seems like a bug to me... but it saved after I did that.
(Using Umbraco 7)

Selenium Web Driver Error

I'm getting a weird error while trying to click on a Capybara Element
I'm using find(:xpath,"//a[contains(text(),'Connect')]").click
(find(:xpath,"//a[contains(text(),'Connect')]").present? return true)
the error I get is:
Selenium::WebDriver::Error::MoveTargetOutOfBoundsError Exception: Element cannot be scrolled into view:javascript:void(0);
i did some research and the only solution i found is that setting the selenium version to 2.16 may fix this issue (i'm using 2.25).
anybody got an idea?
It may happen when the page being tested is not fit into the current window size. If you know such pages where usually these error happening, you may explicitly scroll down before doing the operation on such hidden elements(like click, clear etc). Here the code to explicitly scroll down the page.
In java,
JavascriptExecutor js = (JavascriptExecutor) driver;
js.executeScript("javascript:window.scrollBy(250,350)");
From the times I used selenium webdriver to test .NET apps, I would get that error when the issue was exactly what it sounds like: It's looking for an object on the page that it cant scroll to for some reason. In my case it was because some dialogue boxes would appear without scrollbars and the driver had no way to "scroll the object into view"
Can you watch the execution of your test and see if that's the case? I had some luck rolling back to a previous version of firefox because 15+ was (as of about 2 months ago when I had the issue) unsupported by web driver and had this problem periodically. Rolling back selenium versions may help too.
First step though is definitely to watch the execution of the test and see whats happening though. And a good debugging idea may be to try to work through your steps manually yourself to make sure the test works by hand.
Its also worth noting that for the webdriver to be able to execute click the object actually has to be visible. IsPresent doesnt require that, it just searches the page files. Also an issue I ran into. IsPresent will still return true for objects that are not and cannot be made visible on the page (i.e. something at the bottom of the page that you cant see at the time)
Couple of tips here:
Webdriver should ideally be on the most recent update, it's what most use (Unless you're doing Ruby Automation)
Use css selectors, xpath (Whilst rendered), is almost always heavier on both resources and code.
Try defensive coding, first of all ascertain it exists. There are many ways to do that dependent on what package you are using. In ruby you would do page.has_css?('css_string')

tfs work items can not be modified after user is renamed in Active Directory

TFS stores information about who created or who activated a work item and for some reason checks its validity whenever the work item is modified.
When a user is deleted from active directory or renamed in active directory, all work items even slightly has connection with the user can not be modified. Usually the error message is something like ...
TF20015: The field 'Activated By' contains the value 'blah blah blah' that is not in the list of supported values.
I've found a blogpost which recommends tweaking the TFS database, which is something not supported nor recommended by Microsoft.
What can be done to resolve this?
Thanks...

Caveat: I'm not sure that this will work, and right now I'm not in a position to test it. However, I've had success with this approach on some other fields.
If you use the TFS Power Tools to edit the work item type definition, you should be able to change the Activated By field's rules and add an ALLOWEXISTINGVALUE rule to it. This might allow you to save those records when the AD name changes.
We've used this with some success with the Assigned To field.
I've seen this behaviour. It occurs if someone who activated a work item is removed from Active Directory (leaves the company) or if they change their name (gets married).
It's simple to fix, you just need to change the work item status from Active to Pending then back to Active this will change the "Activated By" field to the person chaging the status and the problem will be resolved.
Are you using TFS 2008? I seem to remember that this issue is fixed in 2010 (but I might have dreamt that)
If you have a lot of work items this blog might have a solution that helps automate the fix.
