Just installed Xcode9 and working on my project.
I notice the buttons on the navigation bar are now positioned differently now.
The Pictures below are navigation bar under different spec and Xcode:
iPhone7plus current deploy under xcode8
iPhone8plus in Xcode9
iPhone8 in Xcode9
As you can see, in iPhone7+ in current deploy with previous Xcode, the buttons are correctly positioned on the left and right hand side.
However, when I run in xCode9, the buttons and the logo are slightly indent to the right.
Can anyone help me out how I can get the buttons position correctly to the left and right, and have the logo position correctly in the centre ?
Here are the codes set up for the navigation bar and buttons set up:
UIView * leftNaviNaviButtonView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0,delegate.windowWidth, 44)];
[leftNaviNaviButtonView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor grayColor]];
UIBarButtonItem * negativeSpacer = [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemFixedSpace target:nil action:nil]autorelease];
negativeSpacer.width = -16;
searchbarBtn = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[searchbarBtn setFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,50,44)];
[searchbarBtn setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"search_btn.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[searchbarBtn.imageView setContentMode:UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit];
[leftNaviNaviButtonView addSubview:searchbarBtn];
UIImageView * logoImageView = [UIImageView new];
[logoImageView setFrame:CGRectMake((delegate.windowWidth-170)/2,0,170,40)];
[logoImageView setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"app_headerlogo.png"]];
[logoImageView setContentMode:UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit];
[leftNaviNaviButtonView addSubview:logoImageView];
UIButton *advanceSearch = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[advanceSearch setFrame:CGRectMake(delegate.windowWidth-50,0,50,44)];
[advanceSearch setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"sear ch_adv.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[advanceSearch.imageView setContentMode:UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit];
[leftNaviNaviButtonView addSubview:advanceSearch];
[self.navigationItem setLeftBarButtonItems:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:negativeSpacer,[[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:leftNaviNaviButtonView]autorelease], nil]];
[leftNaviNaviButtonView release];
Thank you so much in advance.

I'm updating an app to ensure that it works as expected in iOS11. The only issue I've run into is that the navigation bar looks quite different in iOS11. The position of the elements and size is not the same between versions. I've looked at my code and i'm explicitly setting frame sizes and edge insets, why are these values are not respected in iOS11?
//-- Create Right Navigation Item Buttons
// create kabob btn
UIButton *kabobBtn = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[kabobBtn addTarget:self action:#selector(viewUsersClicked:)forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
kabobBtn.clipsToBounds = YES;
[kabobBtn setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"KabobMenu2_0071bc_Right.png"]
forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[kabobBtn.imageView setContentMode:UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit];
[kabobBtn setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 32, 32)];
// create user profile button
UIButton *userBtn = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[userBtn setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"people.png"]
forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[userBtn addTarget:self action:#selector(viewUserProfileClicked:)forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[userBtn setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 38, 38)];
userBtn.clipsToBounds = YES;

UIBarButtonItem *barButton2 = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:userBtn];
// add bar button items to right bar button item array

//-- Create Left Hamburger Button

[customOpen setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 30, 44)];
[customOpen setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"hamburger.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[customOpen setImageEdgeInsets:UIEdgeInsetsMake(10, -5, 16, 10)];
UIBarButtonItem *openItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:customOpen];
if(self.showHamburger){
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = openItem;
}else{

Apparently iOS 11 uses autolayout for nav bar buttons. Use auto layout constraints to set button width and height.
[userBtn.widthAnchor constraintEqualToConstant:38.f].active = YES;
[userBtn.heightAnchor constraintEqualToConstant:38.f].active = YES;
This should fix the stretching issue.
Thanks to this answer
I have been messing with this for a while and I can't figure out what would be causing this issue. I have a UIViewController embedded in a UINavigationController and on the generated UIViewController has two UINavigationItems:
1:left button is a default Done button with no image - appears fine
2:right button is a plain button with a 30x30 image
These buttons are not connected to any IBOutlet and are not altered within the Swift code. However when the code is compiled and is running on a simulator the right button is pushed down the screen. If the image is removed and standard text is added the button appears fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you
Environment details:
MacOSX 10.11.2 , Xcode 7.2
This is what I do in objective-c to set the buttons to a specific side.
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"Notification.png"];
UIButton *button = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 40, 40)];
[button setBackgroundImage:image forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self
action:#selector(goToNotifiationView:)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.adjustsImageWhenHighlighted = NO;
UIBarButtonItem *rightButton =
[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:button];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = rightButton;
Hi I am trying to add a navigation bar item to navigation bar in xib. But it works fine for ios 7 but, in ios 8.1 it shrinks to corner to the border.How much ever i try to put in right place. Can anyone tell is this a bug in ios 8.1 or could anyone help me fixing this issue.
I can suggest a work around its not perfect answer because it has disadvantages:(the push area for a user get smaller)
- (void)navigationBar
{
[ARNStylessetNavigationBarTransparent
:self.navigationController.navigationBar];
UIButton *backBtn = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[backBtn setAttributedTitle:whatEveryoulike];
[backBtn setTitleColor:[UIColor whiteColor] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backBtn addTarget:self action:#selector(popBack) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
backBtn.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 63, 33);
UIView *backButtonView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 63, 33)];
backButtonView.bounds = CGRectOffset(backButtonView.bounds, 10, 10);
[backButtonView addSubview:backBtn];
UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:backButtonView];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButton;
}
you will need to add it programatically.
I think that the best way is to costumeze navigation bar.
I am using these icons as bar button item in a toolbar
http://stopiransnukes.org/images/home_icon.png
and
http://www.bladmuziekplus.nl/shop/files/images/icon_home.png
But background image is converted to white automatically even if its black.
I tried setting image background via code but still its turning into white.
Manually : I have Dragged+Dropped the above image to the project.I have selected the bar button item and on 4th option on the right bar (shield icon) select different tint and under bar button drop-down image is set to the above image.
Programmatically :
[self.homeButton setTitleTextAttributes:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: [UIColor blackColor], UITextAttributeTextColor,nil] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[[self.homeButton] setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"home_icon.png"]];
How do I fix it ?
Thanks in Advance.
.
This is a step by step process to add a image into UIButton and add that UIButton as a custom view inside the UIBarButtonItem in the storyboard itself.. I will add some images for you to understand this totally..
step 1: Drag and drop the toolbar in storyboard view
step 2: Drag and drop the UIButton in your view
step 3: Drag and drop the image in your UIButton
step 4: Drag and drop the UIButton in the toolbar and now you can in the right side that it is added inside of the UIBarButtonItem. now you just have to connect an action method for your button.
viewDidLoad
[super viewDidLoad];
//uıbarButtonItem firstButtonItem,secondButtonItem
UIImage* firstButtonImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"firstImageName"];;
CGRect frameimg = CGRectMake(0, 0, 30, 30);
UIButton * someButton = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:frameimg];
[someButton setBackgroundImage:firstButtonImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[someButton addTarget:self action:#selector(goToUserProfile)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
self.firstButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:someButton];
UIImage* secondButtonImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"secondImageName"];
frameimg = CGRectMake(0, 0, 30, 30);
someButton = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:frameimg];
[someButton setBackgroundImage:secondButtonImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[someButton addTarget:self action:#selector(likePhoto)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[someButton setTag:1];
self.secondButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:someButton];
[self.toolbar setItems:[self addItemsToToolbar]];
AddItemsToToolbar Method
- (NSMutableArray *)addItemsToToolbar{
NSMutableArray *items = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
UIBarButtonItem *flexSpace = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemFlexibleSpace target:self action:nil];
[items addObject:flexSpace];
[items addObject:self.firstButtonItem];
[items addObject:flexSpace];
[items addObject:self.secondButtonItem];
return items;
}
This is the normal behaviour, you can read about it in the Human Interface Guidelines.
http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/IconsImages/IconsImages.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH14-SW8
If you want to change that you need to write your own subclasses.
UIImage* infoButtonImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"info_button.png"];;
CGRect frameimg = CGRectMake(0, 0, infoButtonImage.size.width, infoButtonImage.size.height);
UIButton * someButton = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:frameimg];
[someButton setBackgroundImage:infoButtonImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[someButton addTarget:self action:#selector(actionOfButton)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIBarButtonItem * infoButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:someButton];
This code is going to solve your problem
In my RootViewController, I set an image as a rightBarButtonItem exactly like this, but in this second ViewController I created, this "back" button won't display. I run it on the simulator and on my iPhone and I can tap the area where the button should be showing up and the goBack{} method is being called. Just the image(s) aren't showing. Any thoughts?
Also, as far as the images go, I'm exporting them the exact same way I've been exporting all my other images. All the others have been working fine. It doesn't seem like a problem with the images, as I've substituted the back button images for several others and none of them are displaying. I'm pretty sure I'm creating these images in the right order. Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.
From my NewGameViewController.m file:
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
CGFloat startingPoint = 0.0;
CGRect bounds = self.view.bounds;
bounds.origin.y = startingPoint;
bounds.size.height -= startingPoint;
self.ivarNewGameTableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:bounds style:UITableViewStyleGrouped];
self.ivarNewGameTableView.separatorStyle = UITableViewCellSeparatorStyleSingleLine;
self.ivarNewGameTableView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight;
[self.view addSubview:self.ivarNewGameTableView];
UIImageView *backgroundImageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"background.png"]];
self.ivarNewGameTableView.backgroundView = backgroundImageView;
UIImage *mainNavBar = [UIImage imageNamed:#"startNewGameNavBar.png"];
UIImageView *navBarView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:mainNavBar];
[navBarView setFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 44.0)];
[self.navigationController.navigationBar addSubview:navBarView];
UIButton *back = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
// neither one of the following lines work. I know they're supposed to be identical, but
// seen Xcode be picky.
back.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 54.0, 36.0);
// [back setFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 54.0, 36.0)];
[back addTarget:self action:#selector(goBack) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[back setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[back setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"backTouched.png"] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted];
UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:back];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButton;
}
-(void)goBack {
NSLog(#"goBack called.");
// [self.ivarNewGameTableView pushViewController:];
}
If you're in a navigation stack the back button item is set for you. Use backBarButtonItem correctly do get the behaviour you like.
On your main view controller that you want to come back to you need to overload the backBarButton item.
UIBarButtonItem *newBackButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle: #"Back" style: UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target: nil action: nil];
self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = newBackButton;
Some code samples on github
Ok. Finally figured this out. The problem was with this line in the creation of my New Game View Navigation Bar:
[self.navigationController.navigationBar addSubview:navBarView];
I did this in my Root View's Navigation Bar too. It now looks like this, in both files:
UIImage *startNewGameNavBar = [UIImage imageNamed:#"startNewGameNavBar.png"];
// with the key line being this one
[self.navigationController.navigationBar setBackgroundImage:startNewGameNavBar forBarMetrics:UIBarMetricsDefault];
In noob-speak, as I wish more programmers would use for noobs like me, if you're having problems with buttons disappearing behind the your custom navigation bar, and you're using code that looks like my example, it's because you're not supposed to be adding it as a subview. This puts it on top of everything else. Instead, change the navigation bar's background image and, of course, the image winds up in the...(drumroll, please)...background. (end drumroll)
As for the adding of the button images, I just created a UIButton with custom type, set the images for the normal and highlighted states, set the button to call my goBack method, set its frame size, and assigned it to the navigationItem's leftBarButtonItem property:
UIButton *backButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[backButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"backTouched.png"] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted];
[backButton addTarget:self action:#selector(goBack) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[backButton setFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 54.0, 36.0)];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:backButton];
