If Android Things OS designed for open source? - android-things

I cannot find the Android Things OS source code.
If Android Things designed for open source, even in the future ?
Or the OS is managed by Google only and not for open source ?
I do not want the way to download the source code. This question aimed for some ideas from the design perspective

Unfortunately, it seems like it won't be.
From an Ars Technica article:
Just like Windows, Android Things is closed source and has a centralized update system.

How can I create hybrid apps on IOS?

I see on Android that apps exist to create android apps. I understand nothing like this exists on IOS because of apple's terms. On IOS however, some apps, pythonista for example, allow the user to create scripts that run similar to apps. Is this functionality currently available for hybrid frameworks, IE phonegap/cordova, react native, etc? Barring this, is there some method whereby I can code and test such apps on my iPhone/iPad?
Bottom line, I want to code apps while commuting, etc, on IOS. I understand I need a computer to compile the final product, that's ok, it's just the coding/testing process I want to do on IOS.
I am up for any hack you can think of to make this work, so long as it is accessible with VoiceOver, apple's screen reader, as I cannot see at all. One example of something I thought of that won't work is using remote desktop software, there is no such software that is accessible as it uses an image of the remote screen, I have no access to this.
I am looking forward to your creativity, so far this has me stumped.
Thanks in advance.
Similar to the playgrounds answer, but if you wanted to use Xamarin you could use Continuous .NET. It’s a C# IDE for iOS. You could then use Working Copy to to keep the version on your computer in line.
The other option is to VNC into your computer at home, but if you’re on the train that might not be a great option.
It's not a solution for your problem, but if you have an iPad, you can write parts of apps in Swift Playgrounds. There you have access to all the UIKit stuff. Unfortunately some of the frameworks you can use in iOS are missing.

Run firefox extensions in xulrunner

I am just wondering if is it possible to run extension like colorzilla / firebug in xulrunner.
In fact I am creating my own extension now and I was trying addon_sdk but this is very problematic to put extension icon/button next to location bar.
So I decided to work with xul, and I know that problem doesn't exist here. And Of course the best way to learn is analyze other code, a changing it. But I can't run any extension in xulrunner. Any hint / help ?
xulrunner is just a runtime or platform. You'd need an actual app on top of that. In that regard, Firefox, Thunderbird, Seamonkey, InstantBird, etc. can be considered (complex) xulrunner apps.
Existing extensions may run, with or without modifications in such a xulrunner app. Well, likely with modifications, as most extensions use APIs specific to Firefox or Thunderbird or ...
The add-on SDK is not generally isn't a good fit for generic xulrunner apps: It is too much tailered against Firefox specifically.

Is PlayN on iOS possible without licensing MonoTouch?

Following the instructions on the PlayN wiki I was able to get the "hello" PlayN sample running on the iOS simulator. However, when using MonoStudio, I was told that I need to upgrade to an Indie license or higher to compile the code. (Apparently I was using 33+ features which required it.) When I activated a trial edition, the sample compiled and ran fine on the simulator.
The PlayN wiki seems to indicate the you'd only need a license if you plan on testing on a real device. Is it wrong or am I missing something?
Also, I thought the idea behind PlayN was to build a free, open source game engine on top of free, open-source technology. Mono is both, but MonoTouch is neither. Is there another option or am I stuck with shelling out $1000/year to use iOS (which so far seems far from fully implemented on the PlayN side of things)?
Right now, there isn't. Sorry its disappointing, but its the nature of iOS. Its a very non-free platform.
Perhaps you can try your hands at writing a cross compiler, and release it under an opensource license? You can try basing it on http://gcc.gnu.org/java/.

What do you need to do to create a single package for blackberry OS5 and OS6 devices?

A newb question and one I haven't been able to see much advice on, but is it possible to create a single package that will install and run on both blackberry OS5 and OS6 devices?
I want to avoid preprocessing or creation of two different COD files.
I am not using anything special that differs between the two OS's (afaik!)
Yes, absolutely. So far, RIM has made all of it's OS revisions backwards-compatible. So anything you write against any given OS version will work on that version and all newer versions.
That's not to say that you won't run into funny quirks when moving to newer OS versions, but your code will execute without recompilation. You just can't take advantage of any of the newer OS's API changes without doing preprocessing.
Basically in this case you just should not use APIs which were added in OS6.

BlackBerry java UI development

Is there a tool for BlackBerry java application UI development. I do not find drag and drop options in xml file in eclipse like in Android SDK. Is there something like Droid Draw here too? I am new to BB Java dev, any pointers are appreciated.
Unfortunately no... There is no designer tool for blackberry ui, it must all be done in code. I heard that RIM plans on coming out with something of the kind but there is no such tool available at the moment.
There are tutorials on how to create many of the common UI, if you are searching for something specific I'm sure you can find some sample code to get you started.
