I'm trying to build bazel 0.5.3 on Ubuntu 16.04, Linux ppc64le. I want to know the required PROTOC and GRPC_JAVA_PLUGIN versions for bazel 0.5.3.
With protoc 3.2.0 and grpc-java 1.0.0, I'm getting below error-
./compile.sh
INFO: You can skip this first step by providing a path to the bazel binary as second argument:
INFO: ./compile.sh compile /path/to/bazel

build_event_stream.proto: Import "src/main/protobuf/invocation_policy.proto" was not found or had errors.
build_event_stream.proto:261:3: "blaze.invocation_policy.InvocationPolicy" is not defined.
I think it is because of incompatible protoc/grpc-java version. Kindly help me on this.
Thanks in advance,
Nishidha
You can check the versions here:
https://github.com/bazelbuild/bazel/tree/0.5.3/third_party/protobuf
https://github.com/bazelbuild/bazel/tree/0.5.3/third_party/grpc
So it seems Bazel 0.5.3 depends on grpc 1.3.0 and protobuf 3.2.0.
Just to make sure, you did download the distribution archive, right? compile.sh doesn't work with cloned git repo.
FYI, you can also try Bazel 0.5.4 as it was released recently.

I'm trying to build the compile environment of .proto files for grpc on my macbook. My current local protobuf version is 3.11.4 in my iOS project, but the latest grpc direct to protobuf 3.15.8. I have customized my protobuf code for some reason, so I don't want to upgrade it, and so does the compile environment.
my question is: can I keep my local old version protobuf(3.11.4) environment while install grpc environment at the same time?
When I use pod install to generate xx.pbobjc.h xx.pbobjc.m xx.pbrpc.h xx.pbrpc.m, it shows an error in the file
#error This file was generated by a newer version of protoc which is incompatible with your Protocol Buffer library sources.
and when I use cmd in terminal like this
protoc -I . --objc_out=./output --grpc_out=./output --plugin=protoc-gen-grpc=grpc_objective_c_plugin search.proto
it goes
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/opt/protobuf/lib/libprotoc.26.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/rose/Documents/Code/JobProjects/grpcProto/grpc_objective_c_plugin
Reason: image not found
looks like it has linked to a higher version protobuf.
here's my protobuf version
$ protoc --version
libprotoc 3.11.4
'brew install grpc' dependent the latest protobuf(3.15.8), I guess I should clone grpc down and build the environment by myself and so I did, but it seems grpc doesn't link with my old protobuf still when I try to generate code from .proto file, can anybody tell me how to make it happen? Have I make this clear? please tell me if i don't
I finally get the answer. it's the Homebrew's fault, the grpc_objective_c_plugin generated by 'brew install grpc' only relies on 3.15.8 protobuf, lower versions won't work. my colleague has the 3.11.4 protobuf environment, and he runs the newest compile plugin successfully which is downloaded from github...After modify some #import code, compiled files build in my project with no errors.
For an iOS developer, no need to 'make install' grpc project, what u need to do is just create .podspec file as grpc document and modify the podfile, after 'pod install' there will be a grpc_objective_c_plugin file under the Pods/!ProtoCompiler-gRPCPlugin/, this plugin relies on the protobuf environment on your computer, the limitation of Protobuf version should be >=3
hope this will help whoever comes to this.
I'm new to the Haskell ecosystem and trying to install Idris on my MacOS Catalina.
So after
$ brew install ghc
$ brew install cabal-install
I have The Glorious Glasgow Haskell Compilation System, version 8.8.2 and cabal-install version 3.0.0.0. Then I'm trying to install Idris but
$ cabal update; cabal install idris
from official docs fails with
Resolving dependencies... cabal: Could not resolve dependencies: [__6]

searching the rest of the dependency tree exhaustively, these were the
goals I've had most trouble fulfilling: hashable, trifecta, base,
idris, text, template-haskell, time, pretty, blaze-builder,
blaze-markup, idris:setup.Cabal, zlib, unordered-containers, ivor,
optparse-applicative Try running with --minimize-conflict-set to
improve the error message.
Running with the flag mentioned in message doesn't help too.
Should I try building from sources or is there any other good way to fix this error?
This PR supporting those versions was just merged in January: https://github.com/idris-lang/Idris-dev/pull/4808
However, the last release on Hackage was July of last year:
http://hackage.haskell.org/package/idris
So I'd assume the currently released version doesn't build on GHC 8.8.
You could build current master from the git repo.
Or you could install the idris-current.pkg binary from https://www.idris-lang.org/download/ instead of building it yourself from source.
On Linux I needed to install zlib outside of cabal, you might need to do that. I see that in your list of failed packages.
I'm using yocto 2.6 (thud) to customize my linux image and now I can use bitbake to generate an image with my own applications, the image runs well on the board.
Now I'm trying to populate the sdk and I do:
bitbake dey-image -c populate_sdk
then I have lots of warnings, like
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
apt-dev : Depends: apt (= 1.2.24-r0.1) but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: bash-dev
Recommends: libcurl-dev but it is not installable
hwmoniter-dev : Depends: hwmoniter (= git-r0.7) but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: libmosquitto1-dev but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
Summary: There was 1 WARNING message shown.
It seems that populate_sdk finally succeeded with warnings, the sdk (*.sh) is generate and it can be installed, but I can't find many header files I assumed to be there.
So what do the warnings mean? What's the difference between "not going to be installed" and "not installable"? How can I fix those warnings?
Thanks
I'm trying to install webkit for Capybara, using the information provided here, but I'm getting an error.
Following the instructions I have tried to change the qmake.conf file in the Qt installation directory but I couldn't find the QMAKE_IDC parameter and I don't know where the following values should be placed:
QMAKE_RCC = $$[QT_INSTALL_BINS]$${DIR_SEPARATOR}rcc$${EXE_SUFFIX}
QMAKE_LFLAGS = -static-libgcc -static-libstdc++
The following error is what I got:
C:\Users\Deepzster\Desktop\app\app>gem install capybara-webkit
Temporarily enhancing PATH to include DevKit...
Building native extensions. This could take a while...
ERROR: Error installing capybara-webkit:

Command 'qmake -spec win32-g++ ' not available
Makefile not found
I had the same problem. I had installed the latest version of Qt, which is version 5.3. I looked up the instructions on https://github.com/thoughtbot/capybara-webkit/wiki/Installing-Qt-and-compiling-capybara-webkit, and one of the instructions is to modify the qmake.conf file, and the edits are to be made after "the line beginning with QMAKE_IDC". However, this line wasn't available in my qmake.conf file.
Therefore, I installed the version stated in the instructions, which is version 4.8.5. Here's the link - http://download.qt-project.org/archive/qt/4.8/4.8.5/. I downloaded qt-win-opensource-4.8.5-mingw.exe (I'm on a Windows 7 64-bit machine).
The qmake.conf file in this version does have the line beginning with QMAKE_IDC, so I could edit it as required. I then followed the rest of the instructions up to step 10 on the link (I also tried step 11, but I got a 'make failed' error). I then went to the directory containing my Gemfile and entered
gem install capybara-webkit
and the installation was successful.
Make sure your qmake is added in system path, otherwise it will fail to install.
There is no qmake utility on your workstation, as indicated by this message:
Command 'qmake -spec win32-g++ ' not available
I may suggest you to install QT for Windows. If this already done here suggested readings.
I was trying to install WireShark 1.10.5 in linux.I was following the instructions provided with the software. Now,I am having problems while installing. It says pod2man cannot be found. How can i fix this?
checking for pod2man... no
configure: error: I couldn't find pod2man; make sure it's installed and in your path
try
apt-get install perl-modules
According to FOSSology bug 5619:
the pod2man utility which is used by the build process has been moved to a different package in Fedora 19 called perl-podlators
In previous versions it was in the package perl
so it appears you need to install the package "perl-podlators" to get pod2man.
