I wanted to install locally VLC on a 6.9 CentOS desktop (at work) to watch this video. Since I don't have root access, I downloaded the 2.2.6 version in my home folder and ran configure as said in INSTALL
Then, it failed because Lua wasn't found. So I downloaded the latest version following the method propose by the official website, with lua -v working.
I've added the executable and the .h headers (as answered in this question) to my PATH in local bin folder. Then ran configure again. Still it cannot find lua. Looking at the configure script and the INSTALL text, I wasn't able to find a solution to make VLC search for Lua in PATH.
So how do I configure my system to makes VLC working ?

I am trying to create a class diagram with sphinx. For this I created a virtual environment in Pycharm and added this to conf.py:
extensions = ['sphinx.ext.autodoc','sphinx.ext.inheritance_diagram']
In my spamfilter.rst file I added the following lines:

The output is not a diagram and looks like this.
The following warning is displayed:
WARNING: dot command 'dot' cannot be run (needed for graphviz output), check the graphviz_dot setting
When I look into the folder C:\Users\Name\PycharmProjects\documentation\venv\Lib\site-packages\graphviz, there is a dot.py file, so I do not understand what is wrong. A similar question for Mac OS has been asked here. I tried the solution but it seems like it only works for Mac, because when I paste export PATH=$PATH:~/opt/bin to the Pycharm Terminal, it tells me that the command export could not be found. Honestly I have problems understanding why sometimes you can just use packages and other times they cannot be found even when they are installed, I am self-taught and a beginner.
The "pip install graphviz" command installs a Python package that provides an interface to Graphviz (https://pypi.org/project/graphviz). This package is not required by Sphinx.
In order to create inheritance diagrams with Sphinx, the actual Graphviz toolkit (including dot.exe) must be installed. See https://www.graphviz.org.
If dot.exe is not in the PATH, you can use the graphviz_dot configuration option.
I had the same problem where rendering a C4 model with PlantUML didn't work in the IDE (PyCharm 2022.2.1 Pro) on a newer M1 MacOS Monterey. I had it working on a Big Sur intel Mac prior to the upgrade with no extra effort, so the chip change caused me to go down a lot of paths with Rosetta and so on that were all unsuccessful.
The error was:
Dot Executable: /opt/local/bin/dot
File does not exist
Cannot find Graphviz.
Graphviz was installed correctly, and dot was on my path, but it wasn't in /opt/local/bin/dot. Since it was in /opt/homebrew/bin/dot, all I needed to do was link the actual file with the path it was searching for:
cd /opt
sudo ln -s homebrew local
et voilĂ , PyCharm is now correctly rendering the puml in the IDE.
I recently did an update/upgrade with homebrew, and now gv no longer opens any of my .ps files. The Ghostscript error window that comes up says "Unknown device: x11 Error: PostScript interpreter failed in main window".
If I try gs --help, it doesn't list x11 under available devices, and the Default output device is "bbox". I tried uninstalling and reinstalling through homebrew. I tried to reinstall adding "--with-x11" but that throws the error "invalid option: --with-x11" - apparently that's no longer allowed. I've upgraded my command line code through the app store, and tried all of this again - nothing changed. I'm on High Sierra 10.13.3, using Homebrew 2.0.6, ghostscript 9.26_1, and gv 3.7.4.
I'm not a Mac developer so I'm not completely familiar with Homebrew, but it does sound like the package has been built wiithout X11 support. The fact that --help doesn't list the device is pretty clear.
I do notice from the website that in the last 30 days there have been 2 downloads of --with-x11. So possibly they've removed X11 support recently.
The only other thing I can suggest (assuming you are comfortable with compiling yourself) is to get the sources from www.ghostscript.com, untar the source tarball, then in a terminal window, from the 'ghostpdl' directory, execute ./autogen.sh, then when that is complete, execute 'make'.
Assuming you have autotools, gcc and the X11 development package, that should build a version of Ghostscript which includes X support. Looking at the Homebrew forumla, and assuming this has worked for you in the past, I think you should be able to build Ghostscript that way.
You might want to add --disable-cups --disable-compile-inits --disable-gtk --disablefontconfig --without-libidn to the ./autogen.sh command line to mimic the Homebrew formula. I'm not sure why they disable CUPS, but whatever.
Other than that, this isn't really a Ghostscript question as such, you would need to contact whoever handles the Homebrew Ghostscript distribution, which isn't any of the Ghostscript development team.
For those searching for a solution, I've put together a custom Homebrew tap that allows you to easily install GV (commonly called Ghostview, but really a derivative of it):
brew install johnhcc/gs-x11/gv
This will automatically install a version of Ghostscript with X11 enabled in the process (it is a dependency). You can optionally install the dependency by itself, it you want:
brew install johnhcc/gs-x11/ghostscript-x11

I have clang-format version 3.8.0 (tags/RELEASE_380/final) in my ~/bin folder on a Fedora machine with no root privileges. It works, but it is very old and I'd like to upgrade. I just want the clang-format tool, so I would like to avoid going through the full installation process for LLVM or clang if I can avoid it. I assume I can avoid it, since my old clang-format works without either of those installed. I don't remember how clang-format got in my ~/bin directory, and I can't figure out how to update it.
The first thing I tried was following this post which said I should be able to download a prebuilt binary from this page (I tried http://releases.llvm.org/6.0.0/clang+llvm-6.0.0-x86_64-linux-gnu-Fedora27.tar.xz), then just set up a symlink to bin/clang-format. This did not work for me. When I type /path/to/bin/clang-format --help I get the error error while loading shared libraries: libtinfo.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
The next thing I tried is downloading the clang source code and compiling that with
mkdir build && cd build && CC=$(which gcc) CXX=$(which g++) cmake ..
but when I did I got the error
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:36 (message):
llvm-config not found -- LLVM_CONFIG-NOTFOUND
Which I guess means I'd need to install the LLVM to go this route?
Any help getting an updated clang-format (vesion 5.0 at minimum) without root access would be appreciated. Bonus points for minimal installation (i.e. no clang or llvm).

By downloading a bunch of different versions of prebuilt binaries, I've discovered that older versions (<4.0) have clang-formats that work out of the box, but at 4.0 and up give the same error about libtinfo. I guess that means I'll have to live with older versions unless I want to go through a painful installation process.
When you download llvm 6.0, make sure the directory structure is as follows:
llvm
|-->tools
|----->clang
|----> tools
|----> extra
If you just want to build clang-format, then you can cd into
llvm-build-dir/tools/clang/tools/extra/clang-format and then execute make -j8 all
later you can make a symbolic link in your /bin folder
I am trying to create an ionic app on Mac.
I followed the instructions on ionic's website to create a basic app and was able to run it in the browser but when I run "ionic build ios" I get following error. I cannot find a log file or any other error to debug this. How do I go about fixing this?
Check your Gulp version and gulpfile.js. You may need to remove the calls to gulp.src

ok, after lot of looking and searching I figured my npm install was messed up.
Part of my installs were in /usr/local and few of them were in /User/user.name/npm folders. /Users/user.name/npm was set in the npm config prefix.
I had two installs of cordova, one on each folder above. Some how the cordova from /usr/local was getting used to create the project and that was the old version.
To fix the problem, I uninstalled all my global npm installs and pointed my npm config prefix to /usr/local and gave myself execute permission on that folder. Everything is working now.

I want to build vlc for iOS.
My environment is MacOS 10.8.3, Xcode4.6.2 with iOS6.1 SDK.
I cloned the vlc lib form https://github.com/videolan/vlc.git, cd into the /extras/package/ios, and run the build.sh in terminal, everything goes okay except when I start making the chromaprint, I got this error:

This is because chromaprint needs the fft library, it will find FFMPEG and also FFTW3.
I want to use the FFMPEG for an fft calculation, so I have download a copy of ffmpeg source code and complied it,the libs and headers are in the directories: /Users/king/ffmpeg/complied/include and /Users/king/ffmpeg/complied/lib,
then I set the FFMPEG_ROOT as /Users/king/ffmpeg/complied in the cmake/modules/FindFFmpeg.cmake, just before the FIND_PATH() function.
something like : set(${FFMPEG_ROOT} /Users/king/ffmpeg/complied)
,I hope the FIND_PATH() can find the releated libs and headers, this doesn't work.
So my question is, How do i set the FFMPEG path or FFTW3_DIR for chromaprint?

After I upgrade cmake to 3.22.0, this problem is fixed.
I download latest cmake source code and build.
I also download fftw3 package and extracted under /home/[username]/fftw3.
Set FFTW3_DIR to ~/fftw3 by
export FFTW3_DIR=/home/[username]/fftw3
