Swift: How to make an action occur if UIAlertAction is pressed? - ios

I'm trying to make an app where if the score is 3 the app displays a message that says "you lose" but keeps '3' as the number in the score label until the End Game option in the popup is pressed, at which point the score goes back to 0 for a new game. I am new to swift and am having difficulty and would really appreciate any and all help! I am not sure if making an IBAction for the alert action is the right thing to do or not.

Swift UIKit - Showing an alert after another one

I am trying to show an alert after another one in swift. I found a solution but I think this is not the true way. My code piece is below.

As you know, if I directly add my alert code after the first one, it doesn't work. But if I put my second one's code to first one's action, it does.
However, in this case, I need to connect one alert to another one's button's action. I don't want to connect it to another one.
Is there any solution for better way showing alerts in the same view, orderly?

Presenting the second alert works when done in the handler of one of the first alert's actions because the handler is executed after the alert is dismissed.
With this in mind, you just need to dismiss your first alert then present your second alert in the completion block of the dismissal call, for example:
(Here we just wait 2.5 seconds before presenting the second alert)

Swift: UITextField is not being recognized

I want the user to press a button, and then for them to be able to see an alert where they can enter an input (to set a price for a service). The other logic involves saving data to a database, which is not really relevant to my problem.
I am using the following example:

tField is a local variable inside your setAmount function. It is not a property of the class.
Change:
self.tField.text
to:
tField.text
That will allow you to access the local variable.
But the real question is why are you creating a local variable of UITextField inside this function? Why are you printing its text when the text field isn't used anywhere?
Most likely you should be accessing the alert's text field inside the action handler for the "Done" button. There's no need to do anything inside the completion block of presenting the alert.

My guess is that when you present an alert your current ViewController is the alert viewController... And in your alert there is no variable tField.
On the exampled you quoted the alert was presented only after the print with tField's value. That why that worked there and doesn't work in your case.

UIAlertController Keeps Re-Appearing After Closing It

I have written code for an alert to appear when the input in one of my UITextFields is less than 1050. It successfully appears when the inputs satisfies that, but after I press "OK" it instantly re-appears.
Below is the code in the viewDidLoad function:

Your handler name valueCalc is called when you press OK.
Again the value is calculated which when come out be less then the specified characters shows back you the alert.
Instead of that, replace this line in your code -

and add this method to your code

You have the handler argument for your UIAlertAction set to valueCalc. Therefore, whenever the user taps "OK", the method valueCalc gets run again, and since the value is (presumably) still the same, the alert is presented right back again.

How to disable a UIButton and send a UIAlertView message

I am trying to disable a menu button is the array is shows is empty.

Also check your array count, that is why your wrong condition is executing

How would I create a UIAlertView in Swift?

I have been working to create a UIAlertView in Swift, but for some reason I can't get the statement right because I'm getting this error:
Could not find an overload for 'init' that accepts the supplied

Here is how I have it written:

Notes

But I do agree with Oscar, this class is deprecated in iOS 8, so there won't be no use of UIAlertView if you're doing an iOS 8 only app. Otherwise the code above will work.
For SWIFT4, I think, extending UIViewController and creating a reusable confirmation control is the most elegant way.
You can extend the UIViewController as below:

UIAlertController can now provide Alerts as well as Action Sheets
Alerts

Note that it's is a fundamental nature for all action buttons to dismiss the alert view when tapped. The style parameter is just for deciding the color of the text (and some default order in which the buttons should appear which ofc can be changed)
A sample handler function could be

As a side note, I would say instead of making 3 different handlers you can just make 1 and trace back to the element which provoked it in the manner shown above
We can also check alert.style but that again we can have multiple .default styled actions , I wouldn't recommend that
Action Sheets
The explanation is similar because the main difference here is that an alert interrupts the user whereas an action sheet slides from the bottom in an iPhone and appears as a popover in an iPad
The Purpose of action sheets is to guide the users in deciding his actions based on their current state. So you gotta treat action sheets like crossroads !. There is generally no message and the title is rendered as caption sized text

The above code is going to work for an iPhone but will crash at runtime for an iPad because UIPopoverPresentationController is going to take charge of the alert and it won't be referencing anything at that time. So to avoid that you will have to provide the following chunk of code its mandatory

Also in case of iPad tapping on anywhere outside the popover will dismiss it and the completion handler of .cancel action button will be called.

I have another trick. Suppose you have 5 classes where a logout alert to be applied. Try with swift class extension.
File- New- Swift class- Name it.

The following is a simple example of how to create a simple alert with one button with Swift 3.

In the above example the handle callback of the action has been omitted because the default behaviour of an alert view with one button is to disappear when the button is clicked.
Here is how to create another action, which could be added to the alert with "alert.addAction(action)". The different styles are .default, .destructive and .cancel.

I got the following UIAlertView initialization code to compile without errors (I thing the last, varyadic part is tricky perhaps). But I had to make sure the class of self (which I am passing as the delegate) was adopting the UIAlertViewDelegate protocol for the compile errors to go away:

The reason it doesn't work because some value you passed to the function isn't correct. swift doesn't like Objective-C, you can put nil to arguments which are class type without any restriction(might be). Argument otherButtonTitles is defined as non-optional which its type do not have (?)at its end. so you must pass a concrete value to it.
