We have a Google Sheet doc which contains a date column with each date as a row value, and also multiple columns (some of which have the same name) and we want to sum the values in the cells where the row is a specific date, and the column has a specific header. For example where the date is 01/03/2017 we want to sum all the values which have the column header "X" on that date. Can this be done?
Yes it can be done
=SUMIF($C$3:$J$3,"X",OFFSET(C3:J3,MATCH(B1,B4:B15,0)+3,0))
Broken down
=sumif($C$3:$J$3 [<-header row with X],"X" [<-what we're looking for],C3:J3 [<-row to sum])
the formula above will sum the header row if there is an "X" (not very useful)
I used offset(C3:J3,[row number],0) with the header row range to push it down to the row matching 01/03/2017
To get the row number of 01/03/2017 I used Match() and put 01/02/2017 in cell B1
MATCH(B1,B4:B15 [range of dates] ,0)
I add 3 becuase my range starts at 4
You can hard code the date into the formula by replacing B1 with
DATEVALUE("01/03/2017")
I've not tried this in Google Sheets as I don't have access at the moment but it works in Excel and I'll try it in Sheets later.
Here's the formula that you can paste into A2 on your sheet "Sum of Data"
=SUMIF(Data!$B$1:$J$1,B$1,OFFSET(Data!$B$1:$J$1,MATCH($A2,Data!$A$2:$A,0),0))
It's all about changing the original formula to match your data and also locking the ranges correctly with the $ so that it will autofill down and across without breaking.
Use INDEX to peel off the appropriate column for SUMIF.
=SUMIF(A:A, G4, INDEX(A:E, 0, MATCH(H4, 1:1, 0)))
Considering a sheet where:
Cell B1 contains the date of interest (e.g. 01/03/2017)
Cell B2 contains the header of interest (e.g. X)
Cell B3 returns the sum of interest (values of all columns with header "X" on 01/03/2017)
Row 4 contains the headers to be evaluated (e.g. "Date", "A", "B", "X", "C", "X", "D")
Subsequent rows contain the actual data (e.g. dates in column A and data in columns B:G)
Refer to the image on the link below for details:
Example with cells of interest highlighted in yellow
The following formula should return the expected result:
=SUMIF(4:4,B2,INDEX(A:G,MATCH(B1,A:A,0),0))
I used Google Sheets in Portuguese. So, the formula actually tested was:
=SOMASE(4:4;B2;ÍNDICE(A:G;CORRESP(B1;A:A;0);0))
I hope that was usefeul.

Column A is named "Quantity", which works in a simple formula:
I'm getting an error when attempting to use a named range in ISBETWEEN formula:
I verified that ISBETWEEN works when I use cell reference A2 instead of named range Quantity:
Any thoughts how I can fix? 😤
Your named range Quantity has its range set to A1:A but you are entering it in row 2, so error says there is no room in A2:A for A1:A unless you add a row but when you do it's the same coz you can't fit 3 keys into 2 keyholes (from one side each of course)
As seen on this sample:
See my comment to your original post.
Assuming that your named range Quantity is applied to the entire range A:A (and not A2:A), delete everything from Col B (including the header) and then place the following formula in cell B1:
=ArrayFormula( {"Test"; IF(A2:A="",, ISBETWEEN( FILTER(Quantity, ROW(Quantity)>1), 1, 5) ) } )
This one formula will create the header text (which you can change within the formula if you like) and all results for all valid, non-null rows.
FILTER(Quantity, ROW(Quantity)>1) is necessary to limit the full range of the named range Quantity to only those elements whose row is greater than (row) 1; this is because your results begin in Row 2.
You only need this one formula. As you add more data into Col A, the formula will process it.
I have financial data that I am trying to summarize in a format that can be used by a line chart.
The example spreadsheet is here.
In my source data on the left, I have an entry per Date, Symbol, Account. I need to transform this data so there is a row per Date and a column for each Symbol. I will SUM Total Value regardless of account.
I found a way to pull a unique Date (see H2), and then transpose unique Symbols into columns (see I1).
I also found a way to use SUMIFS to get the aggregation I want (take a look at cell I2), but I can't figure out how to use ARRAYFORMULA to apply this value to all rows in column I.
I know I can drag my formula from I2 down to I3,I4,I.. etc, but this sheet is part of a larger project so I'd like it to auto-populate as dates are added to H.
From what I've read ARRAYFORMULA should apply the formula to multiple rows. What am I missing?
Thanks
use:
=QUERY(A1:F, "select A,sum(F) where A is not null group by A pivot B", 1)
Use formulas like this
=ARRAYFORMULA(IF(H2:H="",,SUMIFS($F$2:$F, $A$2:$A, $H2, $B$2:$B, I$1)))
Add IF(H2:H="",,

I have a Google spreadsheet with 5 tabs (sheets) and I want to copy rows of data from one sheet to another, IF a criteria matches in one of the sheet.
Sheet1 has hundreds of rows of data, across numerous columns. One of the columns lists dates. That column is mostly set to Date format. That date col also uses various Conditional Formatting rules. (I cannot change these or the formatting of this column!).
In sheet5 I have a formula that is supposed to look at sheet1 and find all the rows with a certain date in the date col and then copy the data in that row to a row in sheet5.
It looks like this: =INDEX(sheet1!$A1:$O2002,MATCH($B$1,sheet1!$Q:$Q,0),0)
It kind of works... if I just paste the formula in one cell in sheet5, it finds a row matching the date criteria and copies data over. But if I want to query more of sheet1, by dragging the cell down and find more rows of data to copy over... it just copies all the rows from sheet1 after the initial find... completely ignoring what it's comparing in $B$1 to $Q:$Q... I suspect that what I think it's comparing in MATCH($B$1,sheet1!$Q:$Q,0) may not be what's actually happening, hence the result not matching my expectations...
Here is a screen capture of the sheet I want to copy data from: This sheet is set up and controlled by another party. I CANNOT change data; I CANNOT change data format that is already entered (eg I can't change a col set to Date to Plain Text!) See red notes.
But I can convert Dates in col N to Plain Text in col Q. Column Q is what I am querying/comparing in the formula in the destination sheet (see second screen capture below)
Sheet1 capture: data to copy, criteria date col
In sheet5 I have this formula that queries sheet1:
=INDEX(sheet1!$A1:$O2002,MATCH($B$1,sheet1!$Q:$Q,0),0)
Here is a screenshot of what that formula produces in sheet5
Sheet5 capture: result of using formula
Notice, it kind of works...(when I just paste the formula into my starting cell... it found the one line with the criteria I set) but then if I drag B3 down to query sheet1 more... it just grabs everything, even if $Q:$Q doesn't match the criteria set in B1...
Why?
Any help or clarifying questions are appreciated. Thanks
when dragging you did not lock the rows with $
your formula:
=INDEX(Sheet1!$A1:$Q100, MATCH($B$1, Sheet1!$Q:$Q, 0), 0)
should be:
=INDEX(Sheet1!A$1:Q$100, MATCH($B$1, Sheet1!Q:Q, 0))
coz with your initial formula you just created sort of a "sliding range" by every drag-down. to understand the formula... you are indexing range A1:A100 (from row 1 to row 100) where you narrow it down to just 13th row (MATCH outputs row 13 coz there is the match found. next you drag down and indexing range changes to A2:A101 but the MATCH formula always outputs 13 so 13th row from range A2:A101 is row 14, etc.
anyway, use this in Sheet5!B3 after you delete everything in B3:B range:
=FILTER(Sheet1!A:P, Sheet1!N:N*1=B1*1)
I need an array formula only in column Date_2 with results like on screenshot and that will
insert last day of month depending on Date_0 (if bunch of Color&Fruit&Meal doesn't repeat in table)
insert first minimum date of column Date_1 (if bunch of Color&Fruit&Meal repeats first time) - 1
insert second minimum date of column Date_1 (if bunch of Color&Fruit&Meal repeats second time) - 1
and so on...
Is is possible to solve it with array formula?
I've tried but I can't..
=ArrayFormula(IF(A2:A="","",IF(COUNTIF(B2:B&C2:C&D2:D,B2:B&C2:C&D2:D)>1,INDEX(FILTER(B2:E,E2:E<>""),1,4),EOMONTH(A2:A,0))))
Google Sheets
I'm not quite sure what you need for Date_1 but try this arrayformula in cell F2 for Date_2:
=ARRAYFORMULA({"Date_2";if(IF(B2:B&""&C2:C&""&D2:D<>"",if(A2:A<>"",COUNTIFS(B2:B&"|"&C2:C&"|"&D2:D,B2:B&"|"&C2:C&"|"&D2:D,ROW(A2:A),"<="&ROW(A2:A)),),)=1,eomonth(A2:A,0),)})
I've added a duplicate sheet ("Erik Help") with the following formula in F1:
=ArrayFormula({"Date_2";IF(A2:A="",,IFERROR(VLOOKUP(B2:B&C2:C&D2:D&TEXT(COUNTIFS(B2:B&C2:C&D2:D,B2:B&C2:C&D2:D,ROW(A2:A),"<="&ROW(A2:A))+1,"000"),{B2:B&C2:C&D2:D&TEXT(COUNTIFS(B2:B&C2:C&D2:D,B2:B&C2:C&D2:D,ROW(A2:A),"<="&ROW(A2:A)),"000"),E2:E},2,FALSE)-1,EOMONTH(A2:A,0)))})
This formula creates the header (which you can change within the formula) and all results for Column F.
To lookup the "next instance of the group if there is one," I just wrote the formula to VLOOKUP that grouping plus a text rendering of the COUNTIFS-as-of-that-row-plus-1 for that grouping within a virtual array of each-grouping-plus-unique-count-thus-far in one column and the E2:E data in the next column. For instance, for Row 2, the formula VLOOKUPs redapplepie002
(002 being the text rendition of 001, which is the count of redapplepie as of row 2).
How can I rewrite this formula to work in conditional formatting? If the formula returns the value "a", then I want the cell to be formatted green. See an example in the google sheets link below. =index(Availability!$B$3:$N$8,match(Sales!$A3,Availability!$A$3:$A,0),match(weeknum(Sales!B$2),Availability!$B$2:$N$2,0)) There are 2 sheets in my workbook. I want to apply conditional formatting to a "Sales" sheet based on whether or not there is a corresponding letter at the intersection of an item and a date in another worksheet. In this case, I have a "Sales" sheet with a list of items down column A and a string of dates in columns B-N, and in an "Availability" sheet I have the same list of items ( in a different order) in col A and dates in col B-N (in this sheet, it's actually the week number). So, if in the "Availability" sheet there is the letter "A" at the intersection (B3) of "arugula" and "15" AND in the "Sales" the same item and date are present, I want to highlight the cell green that intersects these two pieces of data.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1C8bm2Jf4-u_lz3Dt3OlQ1SKQ2uijP0Qcume7akLKqas/edit?usp=sharing

=INDEX(
