To find the location of a datapoint without database schema documentation - informix

I program for a Linux based appliance (Cisco CUCM) that uses Informix and am working with documentation that, sadly, isn't very helpful (https://developer.cisco.com/media/UCM10.5DataDictionary/UCM10.5DataDictionary.htm) in this particular situation.
Each device configured in the appliance has dozens of settings that are stored in tables. One setting the appliance calls "Advertise G.722 codec" on the device is no where to be found in the data dictionary and am wondering if there's a way to find it.
I've not really been in this spot before, any help is appreciated.

SSID geolocation. Is it possible to locate an AP by knowing its SSID?

I am doing a research project about data leakage in probe requests. As in these probe requests it is possible to see some SSIDs, I was wandering if it could be possible to locate them. For example, if I see WLAN_C11G I would like to be capable of knowing the coordinates where this AP is.
I know that I could do my own database of scanned SSIDs. However, I would like to know if there is some public database where I can find some AP-SSID geolocations.

What you are describing is known as Wi-Fi Positioning. The information on actual databases in the Wikipedia article may be dated, though.

Implementation of articulate

I am looking at Articulate to support my own application. I want my users to be able to use Articulate to create the E-learning and then uploading the files to my site and run it on my site.
However i wish to store both the questions and the answers of the quiz that is created in articulate.
Does anyone know how this is possible or know a way around either by using excel or any other software to store the Q/A?
There may be more than one answer. But Articulate is SCORM compliant. It is designed to return test scores to the server using SCORM. I have not been involved with receiving those test scores by acting as an LMS, but in the past I have made custom applications that send that data to the LMS using scorm. But if you research SCORM and other APIs they use you might find something useful.
For example, if you mean Articulate Storyline then you can test send/receiving data using this package:

This shows that it can be done. But you would have to write your own program to communicate with Storyline. If you can duplicate how that package works you might be on your way.
As an alternative to SCORM, you can also use the xAPI see https://xapi.com/overview/ to store your e-learning data

Tools for searching full text in iOS bundle

Sorry for the generalized question...I have been hunting for a long time and haven't found anything I can use or easily adapt yet. I'd really appreciate any pointers!
I'm building a reference app that will contain several textbooks in plain-text format. I want the user to be able to perform a search, and get a table back with a list of results. I have a working prototype, but the search logic that I wrote isn't all that smart and it's been hell trying to make it better.
This is obviously a fairly common problem so I'm looking for a tool that I could adapt to the task. So far I've found Lucene (http://vafer.org/blog/20090107014544/) and Locayta (http://www.locayta.com/iOS-search-engine/locayta-search-mobile/)
Lucene appears to have been last updated for iOS 2...I don't even know if I'll be able to rework it myself. Maybe.
Locayta would probably work great, but a commercial license is $1,000 and I may not soon recoup that with this app, as it's a niche market.

We stumbled upon the same predicament where I work, and have yet to decide on a solution.
Locayta seems promising, but barring that, I've looked into SQLite's FTS3/FTS4 as well.
The only issue seemed the lack of a way to match partial words. It's easy to search for fields that contain whole words (eg. "paper" matches "printer paper", "paper punch", and "sketch paper"), or words that start with something (eg. "bi*" matches "binder", and "bicycle"), but there's no built in way to match a suffix.
If you don't require that functionality, FTS3/FTS4 might work.
I see you mentioned in the follow-up that your SQLite didn't recognize FTS3(), and I had the same issue at first.
Apparently it's not bundled into the iOS version by default, instead you have to download the SQLite3 amalgamation, and include it in the project manually. As found at is FTS available in the iOS build of SQLite?
Also note, the SQLITE_ENABLE_FTS3 variable is not enabled by default, you just have to add it to the configuration as detailed at http://www.sqlite.org/fts3.html#section_2

Mahout recommendations with metadata related to preference

I was planning to write a recommender which treats preferences differently depending contextual information (time the preference was made, device used to make the recommendation, ...)
Within the Mahout in Action book and within the code examples shipped with Mahout I can't seem to find anything related. In some examples to there's metadata (a.k.a content) used to express user or item similarity - but that's not what I'm looking for.
I wonder if anyone already made an attempt to do sth similar with Mahout?

A practical example could be that the current session is done on a mobile device and this should cause a push up (rating*1.1) for all preferences tracked on mobile devices and a drop for preferences tracked differently (rating*0.9).

Another example could be that some ratings are collected implicit and others explicit. How would I be able to keep track of this fact without "coding" that directly into the tracked value and how would I be able to use that information when calculating the scores?
I would say one approach is to use the Rescorer class to do just that, but my guess is that this is what you are referring to when you say that's not what you are looking for.
Another approach would be to pre-process the entire data you have to adjust the preferences according to your needs, before using Mahout to generate recommendations.
If you provide some more detail on how you expect to use your data to modify preferences, people here would be able to help even further.

Geolocation, Is it possible to get latitude and longitude from address and store locally in my database

I want to be able to run queries locally comparing latitude and longitude of locations so I can run queries for certain addresses I've captured based on distance.
I found a free database that has this information for zip codes but I want this information for more specific addresses. I've looked at google's geolocation service and it appears it's against the TOS to store these values in my database or to use them for anything other than doing stuff with google maps. (If somebody's looked deeper into this and I'm incorrect let me know)
Am I likely to find any (free or pay) service that will let me store these lat/lon values locally? The number of addresses I need is currently pretty small but if my site becomes popular it could expand quite a bit over time to a large number. I just need to get the coordinates of each address entered once though.

You're correct -- it can't be done with Google's service and still conform to the TOS. Cheers to you for honestly seeking to comply with the TOS.
I work at a company called SmartyStreets where we process addresses and verify addresses -- and geocode them, too. Google's terms don't allow you to store the data returned from the API, and there's pretty strict usage limits before they throttle or cut off your access.
Screen scraping presents many challenges and problems which are both technical and ethical, and I don't suppose I'll get into them here. The Microsoft library linked to by Giorgio is for .NET only.
If you're still serious about doing this, we have a service called LiveAddress which is accessible from any platform or language. It's a RESTful API which can be called using GET or POST for example, and the output is JSON which is easy to parse in pretty much every common language/platform.
Our terms allow you to store the data you collect as long as you don't re-manufacture our product or build your own database in an attempt to duplicate ours (or something of the like). For what you've described, though, it shouldn't be a problem.
