get popular records by id in rails - ruby-on-rails

I have a table in my db that records the amount of times the page has been viewed by id.
The table records the event id and what im ideally wanting to do is count how many times the event id shows.
That way i can put the popular events on my homepage
Basically it looks like this
MY table:
ID
1
1
1
2
2
3
3
3
3
This way the returning result would be something like this:
3 would be first, 1 would be second and 2 would be third.
Then what i can do is each result would populate an each in the show on the view.
Any ideas how to do this?

In my memory I think
Model.group(:event_id).order(":count_event_id DESC").count(:event_id)
would work when I tried.

stack data and restructure without using var to cases or casestovar in SPSS

I have the following situation: a loop (stack data) with only 1 index variable and with multiple items corresponding to the statements, as in the picture below (sorry it is Excel, but is the same as in SPSS):
stack data - cases on multiple lines, but never filling for 1 respondent all the columns
I want to reach to the following situation but without using casestovars to restructure, because that creates a lot of empty variables. I remember for older versions it was a command like Update, which was moving up the cases, to reach the following result:
reducing the cases per respondent
Like starting from this:
ID Index Q1_1 Q1_2 Q1_3 Q1_4 Q1_5 Q1_6
1 1 1 1
1 2 1 1
1 3 1 1
To reach to this:
ID Q1_1 Q1_2 Q1_3 Q1_4 Q1_5 Q1_6
1 1 1 1 1 1 1
But without using casestovars. Is there any command in SPSS syntax for this?

Not entirely sure how variable your data structure is likely to be in reality but if as demo'ed where you have only a single response for each q1_1 to q1_6 per respondent ID, then the below would be sufficient:
dataset declare dsAgg.
aggregate outfile="dsAgg" /break=respid /q1_1 to q1_6=max(q1_1 to q1_6).
Also not sure of the significance of duplicate index values within the same respondent IDs, if this was intended or not.
The following syntax could do the job -

Is there a way with Rails/Postgres to get records in a random order BUT place certain values first?

I have an app that returns a bunch of records in a list in a random order with some pagination. For this, I save a seed value (so that refreshing the page will return the list in the same order again) and then use .order('random()').
However, say that out of 100 records, I have 10 records that have a preferred_level = 1 while all the other 90 records have preferred_level = 0.
Is there some way that I can place the preferred_level = 1 records first but still keep everything randomized?
For example, I have [A,1],[X,0],[Y,0],[Z,0],[B,1],[C,1],[W,0] and I hope I would get back something like [B,1],[A,1],[C,1],[Z,0],[X,0],[Y,0],[W,0].
Note that even the ones with preferred_level = 1 are randomized within themselves, just that they come before all the 0 records. In theory, I would hope whatever solution would place preferred_level = 2 before the 1 records if I were ever to add them.

I had hoped it would be as intuitively simple as Model.all.order('random()').order('preferred_level DESC') but that doesn't seem to be the case. The second order doesn't seem to affect anything.
Any help would be appreciated!
This got the job done for me on a very similar problem.
select * from table order by preferred_level = 1 desc, random()
or I guess the Rails way
Model.order('preferred_level = 1 desc, random()')

Return only results based on current object for dynamic menus

If I have an object that has_many - how would I go about getting back only the results that are related to the original results related ids?
Example:
tier_tbl
| id | name
1 low
2 med
3 high
randomdata_tbl
| id | tier_id | name
1 1 xxx
2 1 yyy
3 2 zzz
I would like to build a query that returns only, in the case of the above example, rows 1 and 2 from tier_tbl, because only 1 and 2 exist in the tier_id data.
Im new to activerecord, and without a loop, don't know a good way of doing this. Does rails allow for this kind of query building in an easier way?
The reasoning behind this is so that I can list only menu items that relate to the specific object I am dealing with. If the object i am dealing with has only the items contained in randomdata_tbl, there is no reason to display the 3rd tier name. So i'd like to omit it completely. I need to go this direction because of the way the models are set up. The example im dealing with is slightly more complicated.

Lets call your first table tiers and second table randoms
If tier has many randoms and you want to find all tiers whoes id present in table randoms, you can do it that way:
# database query only
Tier.joins(:randoms).uniq
or
# with some ruby code
Tier.select{ |t| t.randoms.any? }

Sybase compare columns with duplicate row ids

So far I have a query with a result set (in a temp table) with several columns but I am only concerned with four. One is a customer ID(varchar), one is Date (smalldatetime), one is Amount(money) and the last is Type(char). I have multiple rows with the same custmer ID and want to evaluate them based on Date, Amount and Type. For example:
Customer ID Date Amount Type
A 1-1-10 200 blue
A 1-1-10 400 green
A 1-2-10 400 green
B 1-11-10 100 blue
B 1-11-10 100 red
For all occurrences of A I want to compare them to identify only one, first by earliest date, then by greatest Amount, then if still tied by comparing Types. I would then return one row for each customer.
I would provide some of the query but I am at home now after spending two days trying to get a correct result. It looks something like this:
(query to populate #tempTable)
GROUP BY customer_id
HAVING date_cd =
(SELECT MIN(date_cd)
FROM order_table ot
WHERE ot.customerID = #tempTable.customerID
)
OR date_cd IS NULL
I assume the HAVING would result in only one row per customer_id. This did not end up being the case since there were some ties there.
I am not sure I can do the OR - there are some with NULL values here - and it did not account for the step to the next comparison if they were all the same anyway. I am not seeing a way to avoid doing some row processing of the temp table with some kind of IF or WHERE loop.
As I write I am thinking maybe I use #tempTable.date_cd in the HAVING clause instead of looking at the original table. but that should return the same dates?
Am I on the right track or is there something missing? Suggestions? More info??
try below query :-

Repeated objects in Kaminari

I have an array of objects in my controller, paginated by Kaminari:
#pics = Pic.page(params[:page]).per(12).order(sort_column)
I render each new set of 12 pics on the same page with an AJAX request, for a manual infinite scroll effect. The sort_column bit sorts the pics according to most_viewed attribute within the object.
My problem - sometimes, when there are a number of pics with the same most_viewed attribute, - i.e. there are 10 images with "20" as their most_viewed value - I will get repeated objects when the new set of 12 is revealed with the AJAX request.
Here's an example of what I mean... I've clicked the "load more" (i've left it in to demonstrate), and there are objects repeated when the new batch loads.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
You have to order on count AND another column (id would be the best), in this way SQL will returns a list that will not change (because right now SQL does not know what to do if X records have the same count).
You can change .order(sort_column) to .order("#{sort_column} ASC, id ASC"), and it should work.
