Anonymous sign in persistence - ios

I’m creating application that uses Firebase. I want to allow users to register in application optionally, so user can use my application for year for example and never register.
If user wants he may register (and we will link anonymous login to new account), but that must be an option not required feature.
Now I can use FIRAuth.auth()?.signInAnonymouslyWithCompletion(), all working is okay except if session will expire and app will be closed. I can’t sign in again with that UID, so all user’s data is lost.
How can I signIn with same UID or make that anonymous authentication (users hate that requires registration on each application)?
P.S. You may say that I need custom authentication, but as I read for that I need custom authentication server, I have only app and Firebase server.

Dropbox OAuth2 API always prompts user for permission when a refresh token is requested

I'm writing an offline application that uses the Dropbox API. When a user comes to the application, I'm using the https://api.dropbox.com/oauth2/token (docs) to get a refresh_token, which I store for later use.
I am calling the same endpoint every time the user logs in (unless I've already got the user's data in a cookie). I'm not sure that this is the best way to go about it: I at least need to get the user's account_id, so that I can look up their refresh_token in the database if I already have it. But every time I call https://api.dropbox.com/oauth2/token, the user is redirected to the Dropbox app authorization interface, as if they've never approved the app before.
So I would either like to know how to stop Dropbox from forcing the user to re-authorize an app every time. Or, if that is just how https://api.dropbox.com/oauth2/token is supposed to work, I'd instead like to be able to get their account_id somehow when they visit my page.
(In case it's relevant, the app is still in development mode at this point.)
The https://api.dropbox.com/oauth2/token endpoint is an OAuth endpoint that the app can call to get an access token/refresh token. Being an API endpoint, it does not itself redirect the user to the Dropbox app authorization page.
The Dropbox app authorization page is at https://www.dropbox.com/oauth2/authorize (documented here), and the app decides if/when to direct the user there to authorize the app.
You generally only need to send the user through the app authorization flow (sending them to https://www.dropbox.com/oauth2/authorize and then calling https://api.dropbox.com/oauth2/token) once per user for an "offline" application. Once you do so, you should store the resulting refresh token for that user. You'll typically store the refresh token for that user tied to their user account in your own app.
Exactly how you manage the user accounts in your own app will depend on how it's built, but, as it sounds like this is a web app, typically you would use the user's browser cookies to identify the user when they return to your page so that you can look them up in your database and retrieve their details, such as their corresponding refresh token. (Or, if they're not already signed in to your web app, you would have them do so first.)
Greg's answer is very helpful, and very politely addresses my misunderstanding of the auth flow. (I was revisiting old code I'd written years previously—obviously I should have documented it better than I had!)
In the end I believe that Dropbox was forcing me to reauthorize because my application was in development mode, and had a small user base. When I used the identical code in an app set to production mode, it stopped forcing me to reauthorize. So the “problem” is really a Dropbox security feature, and the solution was just to use production mode.

Track paid content without authentication on iOS

I want to offer some paid content in the app but I don't want the user to go through an Authentication process. I would like him to enter the app and directly be able to buy some of the content and remember that this user has bought it if he comes back later or uninstall/reinstall the app later on. (Like most meditation app on the Store right now)
Is it possible using Firebase Services and if so, what would be the good way to track paid content for anonymous user?
An Anonymous user IS a user without details (Name, email, password, etc). It has a unique UserID
So YES. You can save anything to the database using the User's unique ID. But remember. Every app is capable of performing operations inside their sandbox directory. which also has a unique ID and resets when the app is uninstalled.
In a sentece. Firebase won't remember the Anonymous user ID if the app was deleted intentionally.
The docs does state this very well:
You can use Firebase Authentication to create and use temporary
anonymous accounts to authenticate with Firebase. These temporary
anonymous accounts can be used to allow users who haven't yet signed
up to your app to work with data protected by security rules. If an
anonymous user decides to sign up to your app, you can link their

You could theoretically set it up to where it would redirect the user to a TextField page asking him/her to make a "password" and "PIN" of sorts. This "password" and "PIN" could then be stored into a SQL server database as an anonymous user. When re-downloading the app you could have a page dedicated to purchase recovery where all a user would need to do is input this "password" and "PIN", after they have correctly entered both it would return purchases to their account.
things to be wary of:
-People may use the same password, which is why I recommended a PIN as a way of two-step authentication. Keep in mind also that your app will need to test the password against the server before uploading to make sure that the password doesn't already exist and tells the user that the password cannot be used in such case.
-This is essentially the same thing as an account with a username and password... the only difference is that you aren't going to be collecting other information on them, such as email and birthday, etc., making it more anonymous.
-This is a very rare case of question and I know this is a crappy answer, but honestly this isn't the best idea to implement unless your app heavily relies on it.

Using OAuth but store extra information in my own DB

I've been looking into OAuth for a while, but haven't implemented it in any of my applications yet. I'm having trouble really understanding the full concept, so I still have a few questions that I haven't found an answer to, so I hope that anyone can help me.
I want a user to be able to start my application (WP8), login to facebook / twitter / microsoft / ... .
When he gets authenticated, I want to actually save this user to my own DB so I can add some user specific stuff like preferences, posts, ... .
What do I need to save in my own DB to specify a user?
Do I need to save the token itself or is this something that will be invalidated after a while? Or do I need to specify the user's name? With other words: What can I use as a unique identifier?
And what happens when a user would authenticate with for example facebook and he deletes his account?
And one more question, would you ever allow a user to connect to an application with 2 different service providers? If so, how would you make the coupling of these 2 providers to 1 user in your own DB?
I hope my questions are clear enough!

I assume that you have your own back-end where you authenticate your own users and your WP8 application is just a client.
First, let me distinguish between a user credential and a user profile. User credential is something that validates who the user is, e.g. username/password, facebook user id supplied with a valid auth token. User profile, is what you store in your own database about the user.
You also need to distinguish between a token you use to authenticate the user and the AccessToken Facebook needs to grant you access to user's data.
So... to answer your questions:

Create a record with user data (like preferences, and your unique user ID), and user's login method (e.g. Facebook) and credential (e.g. Facebook's user ID). This is your user's profile.

You can also store the Facebook AccessToken here if you've been granted "offline access" privileges by Facebook, but that is used for Facebook's access by you... not by the user's access to your app/back-end. For user's access you could just use a mechanism similar to cookie-based authentication - it's up to you. You could use the AccessToken as a kind of a "cookie", but you would need to always check against Facebook that it's valid.
With other words: What can I use as a unique identifier?
You could treat Facebook's ID as unique (so long as you never allow another account in your user profile DB to link with the same Facebook account)

It's a good idea to have users still create a username/password combination that works with you site and only rely on Facebook login for convenience. In any case, Facebook provides a "Deauthorize Callback URL" when you create an app profile on Facebook. This is called when a user deactivates your app or deletes an account with Facebook. When you receive this call, you could send your user an email when an auth link to setup a different credential so as to not lose access.

Sure, you could do that. Say you'd want to allow a Twitter account as well. You'd need to add a Twitter user ID field to your user profile database.
Here's another tip: create an ASP.NET MVC4 project in Visual Studio - the template includes an example of how to set up a user profile database with OAuth login.

the user is forced to authorize my app each time

The first time, user is ask to authorize my app. But from the second time, I dont want the user to be asked to authorize my app again.

I plan to store access_token key and secret to a session. When user use my app the second time, I will just use the access_token, so user will not be forced to authorize my app again.

You need to implement session management in your web app and associate session IDs with your user model which stores the auth information. You don't say what language you are using but if you use the Ruby on Rails framework then session management is easily done. I recommend the Devise gem with omniauth-twitter (https://github.com/arunagw/omniauth-twitter).

Soundcloud as Oauth Provider: How to make it connect only one time

I'm currently implementing an Oauth consumer service which is going to use Soundcloud as an Oauth service provider as well. But I'm having the following issue with it: Taking Facebook or Twitter example, you go there, you sign in, you fill up the permission form, and you are redirected back to your app. If you go there a second time, and given you are already sign in, you basically skip all steps and are redirected back instantly. That means, Facebook recognized that you already gave permission to that 3rd party service, so it doesn't ask your permission constantly.
And that's what's happening when I use Soundcloud. Basically everytime I redirected the user to the Soundcloud Oauth connect endpoint, the permission form always shows up, even though I already gave permission to that 3rd party service previously. I'm forced to press "connect" every single time, which is a drag from the user perspective (how many times can you give permission to the same entity). My question is: is there a parameter I can use to make soundcloud recognize/validate the previous permission from the user account to that specific 3rd party service? Or is this Soundcloud Oauth design implementation and we have to live with it?

Maybe this wasn't clear, but each time I press "connect" in soundcloud, a new access token is being generated and delivered. Since my app uses this access token to identify its users, it doesn't work very well for me that the access token is getting updated everytime I want to log in, making me effectively "sign up" everytime. To sum it up, I want to get the previously attributed token to my account, so I can look up in my database, identify it and log him in.
I'm also looking for a solution which doesn't involve storing state in the client that might get cleaned up.
What you can do is store the user's oauth token in local storage and reuse it in future sessions. That's what happens on soundcloud.com.
A longer explanation:
When you use the Connect flow, the user is authenticated by SoundCloud (either by using username/password, Facebook Connect, or an already-existing session on soundcloud.com), and then when it is successful, your app is given an oauth token for that user. This is passed to the callback page which is registered for your app.
That token is the only piece of information needed to have the user be "logged in". Unless the token expires (by time, or by the user manually revoking it), then you can reuse that in future sessions.
I think I'm a bit confused about your application's design: where and how is the oauth token being used? I think that instead of using the token as an identifier, perhaps the user's permalink might be better? If you have the oauth token, you can find out the permalink by querying api.soundcloud.com/me.
