I have an application that depends on a database. The user can post something, but once they post it they must exit out of the current view and go back into it to see the post. How can I change it so that once the user makes the post, they see it. Its essentailly an auto refresh. This is the code that originally populates the tableview.
-(void) getData:(NSData *) data{
NSError *error;
json = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:data options:kNilOptions error:&error];
}
-(void) start{
NSMutableString *postString = [NSMutableString stringWithString:kRecieveUrl];
[postString appendString:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"?%#=%#", #"id", _post_id]];
[postString setString:[postString stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:postString]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
postConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self startImmediately:YES];
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:postString];
NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url];
[self getData:data];
NSLog(#"Json:%#", postString);
}
-(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{
TableViewCell *cell = [self->tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"CustomCell"];
NSDictionary *info = [json objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.content.text = [info objectForKey:#"response_text"];
return cell;
}
When the user sends a new post, that would populate this tableview, they have to exit out and go back in for that new post to be there. I want it to show them the new post once they send it.
You can use an NSTimer to refresh your data :
add this timer in your view did load for example
[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:60.0 target:self selector:#selector(reloadTable) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; //60 sec timer
and add this method
-(void) reloadTable
{
[self start];
[self.tableView reloadData];
}

I have a search bar in which user can filter user name.The string enter by the user that post to the server and responds with an array of users that got filtered. I am trying to load those users into the table view and when the user changes the search item it goes through the same process -
#import "AddFriend.h"
#implementation AddFriend
/*
// Only override drawRect: if you perform custom drawing.
// An empty implementation adversely affects performance during animation.
- (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect {
// Drawing code

searchResults = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init];
myTableView.dataSource = self;

}
- (void)searchBar:(UISearchBar *)searchBar textDidChange:(NSString *)searchText {

}

check
NSLog(#"%#", searchResults);
what are you getting there?
also, every time you do a refresh of the data after search, you should clear your results array
[searchResults removeAllObjects]
I'm very new to developing in Objective C and am trying to figure out why I'm getting an error with my NSDictionary when trying to apply it to a table view. I'm getting the error "Expected method to read array element not found on object of type 'NSDictionary*". Does anyone know what that means, or how I would go about fixing it? I've included the model where I'm having the issue.
UPDATED:
The statement getting flagged is:
NSDictionary *conversation = self.data[indexPath.row];
Thanks!
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
ConversationTableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"conversationCell" forIndexPath:indexPath];
// Get data from array at position of the row
NSDictionary *conversation = self.data[indexPath.row];
// Apply the data to each row
cell.conversationRecipients.text = [conversation valueForKey:#"recipients"];
cell.conversationPreview.text = [conversation valueForKey:#"last_message"];
cell.conversationTime.text = [conversation valueForKey:#"last_thread_post_short"];
//Set conversation thumbnail
[cell.conversationThumbnail sd_setImageWithURL:[conversation valueForKey:#"sender_avatar"]];
return cell;
}
Here's where I'm setting self.data:
// Successful Login
// Create the URL from a string.
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"URLISHERE"]];
NSMutableURLRequest *request=[NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringCacheData timeoutInterval:60];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"GET"];
[request addValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
// Prepare for the response back from the server
NSHTTPURLResponse *response = nil;
NSError *error = nil;
// Send a synchronous request to the server (i.e. sit and wait for the response)
NSData *data = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error];
NSError *serializeError;
id json = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:data options:0 error:&serializeError];
// Get response
self.data = json;
NSLog(#"%#", self.data);
// Reload data after Get
[self.tableView reloadData];
self.data needs to be of type NSArray not NSDictionary then it will work.
I have an API GET Request that runs multiple times using a for loop. I am successfully able to create some NSStrings from this, but given that the loop, I need a good way to store it all together. So, at the end of the connectionRequest, I have it run another method, where I add the NSString to an NSMutableArray. However, when I check the contents of the NSMutableArray, it's only the most recent NSString in there. What am I missing?
- (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated {
for(int i = 0; i< self.theNumber; i++) {
[self getQuote];
}
}
-(void) getQuote {
NSString *bringitalltogether = #"URLOFAPI";
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:bringitalltogether]
cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalAndRemoteCacheData timeoutInterval:60];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"GET"];
NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
[connection start];
}
- (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data {
NSMutableDictionary *allResults = [NSJSONSerialization
JSONObjectWithData:data
options:NSJSONReadingAllowFragments
error:nil];
NSArray *book = [allResults valueForKey:#"bookname"];
self.bookstring = [book objectAtIndex:0];
NSArray *chapter = [allResults valueForKey:#"chapter"];
self.chapterstring = [chapter objectAtIndex:0];
NSArray *verse = [allResults valueForKey:#"verse"];
self.versestring = [verse objectAtIndex:0];
NSArray *text = [allResults valueForKey:#"text"];
self.textstring = [text objectAtIndex:0];
[self doneGotIt];
}
- (void) doneGotIt {
self.theArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
NSString *doIt = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%# - %# %#:%#", self.textstring, self.bookstring, self.chapterstring, self.versestring];
[self.theArray addObject:doIt];
NSLog(#"%#", self.theArray);
}
The console shows the NSLog running the appropriate number of times, but each time, the array stays with just one verse, when I would expect it to gradually grow.
You are creating the new array instance every time. thats y , u are getting the last part.
- (void) doneGotIt {
//Create array only once if not yet created in memory
if (!self.theArray) {
self.theArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
}
NSString *doIt = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%# - %# %#:%#", self.textstring, self.bookstring, self.chapterstring, self.versestring];
[self.theArray addObject:doIt];
NSLog(#"%#", self.theArray);
}
I am doing a database based application. My app needs to update a database table and simultaneously it needs to update the table view i.e. generated based on that particular database table.
Here's is the code i have written
-(NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView {
return 1;
}
-(NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
return self.courses.count;
}
-(void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated {
self.usernameLBL.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"Welcome, %#", self.del.username];
[self loadCourses];
// NSLog(#"The courses count is %d", self.courses.count);
}
-(void)loadCourses {
NSString * stringUrl = [NSString stringWithFormat:"Some URL";
NSURL * uRL = [NSURL URLWithString:[stringUrl stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
NSURLRequest * request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:uRL];
NSError * error;
NSData * results = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:nil error:&error];
self.courses = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:results options:0 error:&error];
NSLog(#"The courses array count is %d", self.courses.count);
[self.tableView reloadData];
}
-(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
UITableViewCell * cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"Cell" forIndexPath:indexPath];
NSDictionary * dict = self.courses[indexPath.row];
cell.textLabel.text = dict[#"name"];
cell.detailTextLabel.text = dict[#"id"];
return cell;
}
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
self.courses = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
self.del = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate];
NSString * strURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:"Some URL";
// NSLog(#"The username is %#", self.del.username);
NSURL * url = [NSURL URLWithString:[strURL stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
NSURLRequest * request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
NSError * error;
NSData * data = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:nil error:&error];
// NSLog(#"The data is %#", data);
NSDictionary * result = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:data options:0 error:&error];
// NSLog(#"The error is %#", error);
// NSLog(#"The value returned is %#", result[#"image"]);
if(![result[#"image"] isEqualToString:#"empty"]){
NSString * urlLocation = result[#"image"];
self.adminIMG.image = [UIImage imageWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[urlLocation stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding]]]];
}
// Do any additional setup after loading the view.
}
- (IBAction)addNewCourse:(id)sender {
NSString * strURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:"Some URL";
NSURL * url = [NSURL URLWithString:[strURL stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
NSURLRequest * request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
NSError * error;
NSData * results = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:nil error:&error];
NSDictionary * dict = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:results options:0 error:&error];
if([dict[#"response"] isEqualToString:#"success"]) {
NSLog(#"New course added");
UIAlertView * success = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"New course added successfully" message:#"You successfully added a new course" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:#"OK" otherButtonTitles: nil];
[success show];
}else {
NSLog(#"Course not added");
}
[self.courses removeAllObjects];
[self viewDidLoad];
[self viewWillAppear:YES];
}
And i got this error.
Error: Evaluation[13335:60b] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSCFArray objectForKeyedSubscript:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xb7d26d0'
I tried many solutions available on the internet but those are not working for me. Anyone can help me, please. Thanks in advance :)
your issue might be here
[self.courses removeAllObjects];
[self viewDidLoad];
[self viewWillAppear:YES];
you don't have to clear your array, try this:
function:
- (void)addCourse{
NSString * strURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:"Some URL";
NSURL * url = [NSURL URLWithString:
[strURL stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
NSURLRequest * request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
NSError * error;
NSData * results = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request
returningResponse:nil error:&error];
NSDictionary * dict = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:results
options:0 error:&error];
if([dict[#"response"] isEqualToString:#"success"]) {
NSLog(#"New course added");
UIAlertView * success = [[UIAlertView alloc]
initWithTitle:#"New course added successfully"
message:#"You successfully added a new course"
delegate:nil
cancelButtonTitle:#"OK"
otherButtonTitles: nil];
[success show];
}else {
NSLog(#"Course not added");
}
}
Your IBAction keep it simple there you don't want to fire off life cycle event from an IBAction instead call the methods you need not to mention that it is not a good idea to call viewDidLoad before viewWillAppear Method...
- (IBAction)addNewCourse:(id)sender {
[self addCourse];
[self loadCourses];
}
first you check the array data it valid or not .(put break point and check it)
and i think u got error because u still not convert integer to string .
i replace this line in to tableview cellForRowAtIndexPath:
cell.detailTextLabel.text = dict[#"id"];
to replace
cell.detailTextLabel.text =[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d",dict[#"id"]];
Its may be very helpful to you Thanks.
I think your problem is here.. your targeting AppDelegate as self.delegate
self.del = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate];
And AppDelegate runs onetime at start of application only that's why your are getting error
I am having an issue reloading my tableView when calling from an outside class to start a method and reload the tableView
More specifically:
Here is the call from the outside class:
- (void)collectionView:(UICollectionView *)collectionView didSelectItemAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
UITableViewCell *cell = [collectionView cellForItemAtIndexPath:indexPath];
NSInteger tag = cell.tag;
impact* myScript = [[impact alloc] init];
[myScript startProcess:tag];
}
**From here** it moves to the `impact` class and loads the `startProcess` method:
- (void)startProcess:(NSInteger)number {
NSInteger testing = number;
cellID = testing;
// MAKE REQuEST TO SERVER
[self makeRequests];
dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{
[self.tableView reloadData];
});
}
This is the makeRequests method it calls:
-(void)makeRequests
{
/* GRAB USERNAME TO BE SENT OVER FOR NOTIFICATIONS */
NSArray *get = [[SSKeychain allAccounts] init];
//NSLog(#"get%#", get);
NSString *username = [get[0] objectForKey:#"acct"];
//if(cellID != 0)
//{
NSDictionary *dictionary = #{#"function": #"populateNotfications", #"username" : username};
NSError *error = nil;
NSData *data = [NSJSONSerialization dataWithJSONObject:dictionary options:0 error:&error];
NSString *string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
if (error)
NSLog(#"%s: JSON encode error: %#", __FUNCTION__, error);
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:#"test.com/dev/iphone/test.php"];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
NSString *params = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"json=%#",
[string stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
NSData *paramsData = [params dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
[request addValue:#"8bit" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Transfer-Encoding"];
[request addValue:#"application/x-www-form-urlencoded" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
[request addValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%lu", (unsigned long)[paramsData length]] forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Length"];
[request setHTTPBody:paramsData];
// issue the request
NSURLResponse *response = nil;
NSData *returnData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error];
if (error)
NSLog(#"%s: NSURLConnection error: %#", __FUNCTION__, error);
// GRAB STATUS OBJECT
NSDictionary* json = [NSJSONSerialization
JSONObjectWithData:returnData //1
options:kNilOptions
error:&error];
self.impactsGrabed = [json objectForKey:#"requested_data"];
//}
}
Now from here it will run my tableView methods as shown below:
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView
{
return 1;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
return [self.impactsGrabed count];
}
- (double) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
return 75;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"timelineCell";
impactTimelineCell *cell = (impactTimelineCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
cell = [[impactTimelineCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
[cell setSelectionStyle:UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone];
[cell initTimelineCell];
cell.statusLabel.text = [self.impactsGrabed[indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"message"];
cell.timestampLabel.text = [self.impactsGrabed[indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"time_post"];
return cell;
}
I have logged every method and every method works until I hit cellForRowAtIndexPath where nothing happens than. Nothing is returning void. Now heres the thing:
When calling the function startProcess from another class that starts the whole process of loading the tableView cells it does not work. If I call the startProcess method inside the viewDidLoad in that file on initiation the tableView cells load properly.
So for example:
If I place [self startProcess:1]; within the viewDidLoad it works perfect! If I call [myScript startProcess:tag]; from the other class, it wont work properly.
What do you guys think the issue is?
Since all your controller are already instantiated and on screen, you don't need to instantiate one (and indeed you shouldn't since that creates a new instance that's not on screen).
- (void)collectionView:(UICollectionView *)collectionView didSelectItemAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
UITableViewCell *cell = [collectionView cellForItemAtIndexPath:indexPath];
NSInteger tag = cell.tag;
impact* myScript = self.parentViewController.childViewControllers[1]; // if my script is one of the child view controllers, then this is how you need to access it -- the number might be 0,1 or 2 depending on which one is the impact controller
[myScript startProcess:tag];
}
You can also do this in prepareForSegue -- when your controller is instantiated, all the embedded child controllers will also be, and you can get a reference to them from the destinationViewController property of the segue.
Because this controller is already on screen, it's ok to call reloadData where you do in startProcess.
