Doing a rails deployment, when I try to push to Heroku I get the following seemingly contradictory error which both states that it searched for and failed to find SQLite and that I need to install it, and that it found SQLite and thus rejected the push.
I followed Heroku's suggested steps for resolving this error to no avail. I have also tried the suggestion of specifying SQLite for development and testing environments only, yielding the same error. I've checked the Gemfile.lock to ensure no other gems have an SQLite dependency. After each change I bundled, added/committed the code to git and then tried pushing to Heroku--I cannot get this error to change.

Bundle complete! 14 Gemfile dependencies, 59 gems now installed.
Use `bundle show [gemname]` to see where a bundled gem is installed.
Heroku runs uses PG for DB.
In your gem file under outside the "development and test do" add the gem PG and move the SQL Gem into your development section.
Push and commit then deploy to heroku.
Once deployed do "heroku run rake DB migrate" and that should get your DB up and running.

I stumbled upon this page (https://forum.theodinproject.com/t/heroku-installfest/28/2) which
suggested the steps below:
In your Gemfile, change:
gem 'pg'
to
gem 'pg', '~> 0.20.0'
Delete the file called Gemfile.lock
Run bundle install --without production
Run git commit -am "add version to pg"
Run git push Heroku master
Above steps solved my problem but now I'm getting a similar error again

Bundler attempted to update actionpack but its version stayed the same
Bundle updated!
Gems in the group production were not installed.
EDIT: I think that somehow the fault was due to installing ruby via apt-get so I removed it and installed ruby all over again using rvm and it worked out!!!!!
Thanks for your suggestions..

RUBY VERSION
ruby 2.5.1p57
BUNDLED WITH
1.16.2
I tried many suggestions on stackoverflow for similar errors. None of them wored for me.
Note:
I have removed turbolinks completely from my rails app . (from
application.js and from gemfile). In between , I did not commit a
gemlock file . But later I have done all the solution out there and
solved the gemlock issue.
Please help me in this .
Thanks in advance.
Run bundle install then commit the generated Gemfile.lock to the repo, then do the push to heroku
If problem persists just bundle install and then remove Gemfile.lock file and then push to heroku.
I was new to heroku and did not have much knowledge about it.
Tried with the suggestons from #djmayank and #neydroid , still my app did get pushed to heroku.
Finally I found that it was a very small mistake that took my hours on this issue. So in addition to the other solutions , the below newbie mistake I shall mention here.
I had a master branch and a development branch on git . I tried to push to heroku master from the git development branch .It failed. I then tried to push to heroku development from git development branch , but that took me nowhere and only a webpage saying
"welcome to heroku"
was shown.
Then when I switched to git master branch and pushed to heroku master, everything worked fine.
Hope this helps someone out there.
Thanks for your time and help !
I am trying to deploy my app to Heroku but am getting the following error every time I push the master branch.

SQLite3 has been removed from my gem and gem lock files and it has all been pushed to git and merged with the master branch. My database.yml has been updated to use postgresql instead of sqlite3. Any ideas what is causing this to fail?

I found the issue- even though I was pushing my changes to Git, I had not pulled the master back to my computer. The file being sent when I ran git push heroku master still included the sqlite3 gem even though it was deleted out in my file and on the Github master. Once I ran git checkout master and git pull origin master, I was able to deploy to Heroku.
UPDATE: Even though I'm completely removing sqlite3gem from my Gemfile and Gemfile.lock, it is still being installed on heroku.
I'm trying to deploy my Rails app to Heroku, and even tho I followed the instructions, I get the infamous sqlite3 error:
Gem::Ext::BuildError: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

Thanks for the help!
sqlite 3 gem cannot be installed in heroku. It is a sample database which comes default with Rails. In case of production, you will have to use some advanced database. Please check this link for more info https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/sqlite3
Unfortunately I was trying to push to heroku without having committed my changes. Thanks everybody for the help!
Heroku provides Postgresql databases as services for your apps. Read here, why it is not a good idea to use sqlite3 in production mode.
So you need to change your Gemfile to something like this:
group :production do
# postgresql
gem 'pg'
# enabling features such as static asset serving and logging on Heroku
gem 'rails_12factor'
end
group :development, :test do
# SQLite3 Database
gem 'sqlite3'
...
end
Hi everyone I recieve the following error when trying to push my app to my heroku. I have tried uninstalling the sqlite gem but it does not seem to work. Any suggestions? Here is my heroku logs:
-----> Ruby app detected

-----> Using Ruby version: ruby-2.0.0

Sorry for all the code, but I am frustrated that I can't find the error. Thanks again.
Best,
Eric
Run bundle update and commit again before pushing
Looks like Gemfile.lock has sqllite from your development group in your gemfile. You could try:
bundle install --without development
and committing that Gemfile.lock
Better would be to just remove sqllite as a development dependency.
