I have an imageURL, and a weblinkURL that is to be shared. I want to open the Pinterest app automatically via url scheme, and pass these parameters so that this is possible.
Is there any legit url schemes out there?
Yes, I did check their dev page: https://developers.pinterest.com/docs/getting-started/introduction/, they have an SDK, but I want a simple url scheme. I don't want to do the integration.
(It looks like few other apps can do this now - what is the right way to do this?)

I was developing an iOS application which need to work with a website. I'm not the owner of website so I cant use the universal link. I tried to open the website url https://example.com/xxx/xxx directly when I set the https://example.com/xxx/xxx as URL Scheme , however it will only display the website but won't asked for open the apps. What is the problem and can I do to achieve the expectation below?
Expectation:
When the user open the website
Phone w/ app - open the website and ask for open the app
Phone w/o app - open the website
I have similar problem with this question.
iOS URL scheme or not existing Universal Link
If you don't own the website you want to deep link to, you can't dictate the behavior once the user lands on that destination in their browser – that would need to be handled by that website.
How can I add deeplink (url like https://www.example.com) in iOS using swift.
The scheme in plist is not working if I enter url in it.
You can check the screenshot of plist attached.
You are attempting to register your app for the URI scheme https which Apple has already reserved for Safari, therefore you will not be able to use it.
Option 1: Custom URI Scheme
You must come up with a custom URI scheme like customURI://www.domain.com
Downside: If a user clicks on this link without the app installed. iOS will show that user and error.
Option 2:Universal Links
Apple launched Universal Links in iOS 9 to enable developers to associate their http link with their app. This requires you to host your own AASA file on your domain so that your domain becomes associated with your app ID.
Option 3: Branch.io
Branch will actually bundle up Universal Links and URI schemes and use them appropriately when necessary. They also perform deferred deep linking. They'll host your AASA file for you, but your app domain will have to be either https://*.app.link or some dedicated subdomain of a domain that you own.
only to be precise:
If you need more docs about in Apple docs, use the CORRECT name for the technology.
If You use url starting with a schema different from http (for example fb:// for FB) is not a LINK, is a "custom" url.
Anyway use: custom url and see at:

So I'm trying to figure out how youtube links work on a device. If you were to tap a youtube link in safari/anywhere it would open up the youtube app if it's available or just go to the video in safari. I'm trying to emulate this with my app.
I'm just confuse how to open a app with a valid web url. I understand that I can open a app with a url scheme such youtube:// but that not the same as www.youtube.com
These apps implement what's called URL Schemes.
Here's a pretty good tutorial for setting up your own app with a URL scheme: http://www.idev101.com/code/Objective-C/custom_url_schemes.html
I'm using the UIActivityViewController to share an image and url from within my app.
I'm having trouble formatting the facebook post. I attach an image using a subclassed UIActivityItemProvider and provide the text for the post in the same way.
I want to add a url, but it needs my apps custom url scheme in front of it like this
myurl://image?url=http://imageurl.com
The problem is, when this is posted, only the last half of the url is clickable (from http:// onwards). Which means it doesn't open my app with the url.
Is there another way to do this?
I know I can create an app on Facebook, but how can I tie the two together using the UIActivityViewController?
Thanks
You have 2 options :
Create a simple server-side web service that will redirect from http://yourserver.com/linkToApp/image to myurl://image .
It could even show a different page/preview if the app is not installed/if you're not on an ios device.
Create a facebook app and use "Deep linking" (it will basically do the same for you..)
I know the available custom URL schemes for the native Facebook iPhone App:
What are all the custom URL schemes supported by the Facebook iPhone app?
But I can't find a way to publish a URL to my wall / timeline in that way, that Facebook collects / shows the site title and thumbnail as it does with the touch.facebook.com/sharer.php file.
The only way I see so far is to call
fb://publish/?text=www.domain.com
but this only post the link to my timeline, not title, thumbnail and site description.
Does anyone know a better way?
Basically you have two options:
You can either launch Safari using the Feed Dialog URL Scheme as explained here or use Facebook SDK as explained here.
If your App isn't integrated with Facebook already, it's probably easier to go with the first one.
