How to handle Remote push notifications in didreceiveRemoteNotification in AppDelegate - ios

For my Remote push notifications I have handle like this in my AppDelegate
-(void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo
{
dm=[DataManager sharedManager];
self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]];
dm.screenHight=[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.height;
dm.screenWidth=[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.width;
NSLog(#"^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Screen hight ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ %i",dm.screenHight);
// for PAYPAL
[PayPalMobile initializeWithClientIdsForEnvironments:#{PayPalEnvironmentProduction : #"YOUR_CLIENT_ID_FOR_PRODUCTION",PayPalEnvironmentSandbox : #"AQhrXRAyHg6nuJCma6vkl1ZtxmWUynzuf2temitMSJEZf8n74p9iKAt6TgSf"}];
/// FOR PAYPAL
NSLog(#"%#",userInfo);
NSDictionary *dictionary=[userInfo objectForKey:#"jsonContent"];
dm.notificationDictionary=dictionary;
if ( application.applicationState == UIApplicationStateActive )
{
UIViewController *viewController1;
viewController1 = [[SplashViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"SplashViewController" bundle:nil];
UINavigationController *aNavigationController=[[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:viewController1];
self.navigationcontroller = aNavigationController ;
self.navigationcontroller.navigationBar.hidden=YES;
[self.window setRootViewController:self.navigationcontroller];
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
}
else
{
UIViewController *viewController1;
viewController1 = [[SplashViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"SplashViewController" bundle:nil];
UINavigationController *aNavigationController=[[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:viewController1];
self.navigationcontroller = aNavigationController ;
self.navigationcontroller.navigationBar.hidden=YES;
//[self.window addSubview:[self.navigationcontroller view]];
//[self.window setRootViewController:viewController1];
[self.window setRootViewController:self.navigationcontroller];
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
}
}
This is working fine. But my problem is when the app is in active state its automatically redirect to the relavent page before click the notification. But I want to keep the apps current screen as it is when it is in the forground and when only user clk the notification redirect to the relavant page. How can I do this? Please help me.
Thanks

If your app is in active state, you can show your notification details in a UIAlertView. User will perform the action through the alert. But you cannot expect the notification in this state.
UIApplicationState appState = [application applicationState];
if (appState == UIApplicationStateActive) {
NSString *cancelTitle = #"Close";
NSString *showTitle = #"Show";
NSString *message = [[userInfo valueForKey:#"aps"] valueForKey:#"alert"];
UIAlertView *alertView = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#“Your Title”
message:message
delegate:self
cancelButtonTitle:cancelTitle
otherButtonTitles:showTitle, nil];
[alertView show];
return;
}

Note : This code is working fine in Xcode 6.4 and iOS8.
Assertion failure in -[UIApplication _runWithMainScene:transitionContext:completion:], /BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/UIKit_Sim/UIKit-3505.16/UIApplication.m:3294
I had to remove this line from application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:
self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]];
And that fixed it for me.
Using this row solved my issue (iOS 10):
[self.window setRootViewController:self.navigationController];
Was (worked for older iOS and Xcode):
[self.window addSubview:navigationController.view];
here i got the solution by checking if navigationController is nil or not:-
if (self.navigationController== nil)
{
self.navigationController = [[BufferedNavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:self.firstViewController];
}
else
{
[self.navigationController setViewControllers:#[self.firstViewController] animated:NO];
}

How to update the badge number in IOS notification?

I recently use the Amazon SNS to push notification for my IOS app.
It works well, the only problem I have encountered is when I receive the notification , the badge number will not be updated, here is how I implement:
First I follow the example here
https://aws.amazon.com/articles/9156883257507082
, I extract only the SNS part that means I only alter the appdelegate in my app. Here is the example code from the tutorial.
- (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo {
application.applicationIconBadgeNumber = 0;
NSString *msg = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", userInfo];
NSLog(#"%#",msg);
[[Constants universalAlertsWithTitle:#"Push Notification Received" andMessage:msg] show];
}
-(BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
{
//Register for push notification
application.applicationIconBadgeNumber = 0;
[[UIApplication sharedApplication] registerForRemoteNotificationTypes:
(UIRemoteNotificationTypeBadge | UIRemoteNotificationTypeSound | UIRemoteNotificationTypeAlert)];
if(launchOptions!=nil){
NSString *msg = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", launchOptions];
NSLog(#"%#",msg);
[[Constants universalAlertsWithTitle:#"Push Notification Received" andMessage:msg] show];
}
self.window = [[[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]] autorelease];
// Override point for customization after application launch.
Message_BoardViewController *boardViewController = [Message_BoardViewController new];
UINavigationController *navigationController = [UINavigationController new];
navigationController.navigationBar.translucent = NO;
[navigationController pushViewController:boardViewController animated:NO];
[boardViewController release];
self.window.rootViewController = navigationController;
[navigationController release];
[[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarStyle:UIStatusBarStyleBlackOpaque];
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
// Logging Control - Do NOT use logging for non-development builds.
#ifdef DEBUG
[AmazonLogger verboseLogging];
#else
[AmazonLogger turnLoggingOff];
#endif
[AmazonErrorHandler shouldNotThrowExceptions];
return YES;
}
As you can see, the badge number will always become 0, and also I found the JSON incoming notification from SNS is without badge field but only has alert field, didReceiveRemoteNotification is not call when the app is at background too.
So , how can I modify the code to update the badge? Thanks for kindly help.

Tab Bar Not Showing

I have a specific view opening when opening my app from a notification. The navigation bar shows up and the navigation works correctly. The problem I'm having is getting the tab bar to show up. Here is my didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method.
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions

// registerForRemoteNotifications is called. This will allow you to prompt your
// users at a later time. This gives your app the opportunity to explain the benefits
// of push or allows users to turn it on explicitly in a settings screen.
// If you just want everyone to immediately be prompted for push, you can
// leave this line out.
// [UAPush setDefaultPushEnabledValue:NO];
//Create Airship options dictionary and add the required UIApplication launchOptions

Here is the chunk of code I've added to my didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method. I've gotten almost everything working. The web views work now when selecting a row and the navigation bar is there and seemingly works as it should. The only trouble I'm having now is getting the tab bar to show up. Here is the chunk of code I'm currently using.
UILocalNotification *notification = [launchOptions objectForKey:UIApplicationLaunchOptionsRemoteNotificationKey];
if (notification)
{
ActionAlertsViewController *actionAlerts = [[ActionAlertsViewController alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain];
WebViewController *wvc = [[WebViewController alloc]init];
[actionAlerts setWebViewController:wvc];
KFBNavControllerViewController *navController7 = [[KFBNavControllerViewController alloc] initWithRootViewController:actionAlerts];
[self.window.rootViewController presentViewController:navController7 animated:NO completion:nil];
}
You could post a notification yourself when you receive a remote notification and by registering the viewcontroller to this notification, you could open a particular viewController once notification is received.
- (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo{
[[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:#"pushNotification" object:nil userInfo:userInfo];
}
In your FirstViewController.m register for listening to this notification.
-(void)viewDidLoad{
[[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:#selector(pushNotificationReceived) name:#"pushNotification" object:nil];
}
Inside the method you could open particular viewController
-(void)pushNotificationReceived{
[self presentViewController:self.secondViewController animated:YES completion:nil];
}
Finally un-register current viewController from notification in dealloc method
-(void)dealloc{
[[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self];
}
If the app is opened from a notification, either of the two methods from your app delegate will be called
- (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo
OR
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
In case of the latter, the launchOptions will let you know if the app was launched due to a remote notification or some other reason (see Launch Option Keys here)
Put in a check in these methods so that the specific viewcontroller will be opened if the app is launched from a notification.
You can do some thing like this
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
{
self.window.rootViewController = self.tabBarController;
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
// If application is launched due to notification,present another view controller.
UILocalNotification *notification = [launchOptions objectForKey:UIApplicationLaunchOptionsRemoteNotificationKey];
if (notification)
{
NotificationViewController *viewController = [[NotificationViewController alloc]initWithNibName:NSStringFromClass([NotificationViewController class]) bundle:nil];
[self.window.rootViewController presentModalViewController:viewController animated:NO];
[viewController release];
}
return YES;
}
-(void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo
{
NotificationViewController *viewController = [[NotificationViewController alloc]initWithNibName:NSStringFromClass([NotificationViewController class]) bundle:nil];
[self.window.rootViewController presentModalViewController:viewController animated:NO];
[viewController release];
}

application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions ignoring if statement

I have an if statement in the App Delegate's application DidFinishLaunchingWithOptions. The code in the if statement runs even if the if statement isn't true. Am I doing something wrong? It just seems to be ignoring the if statement.
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
{
NSInteger i = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] integerForKey:#"numOfLCalls"];
[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setInteger:i+1 forKey:#"numOfLCalls"];
if (i >= 3) {
UIAlertView *alert_View = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Hey! You are still coming back!" message:#"It would mean a whole lot to me if you rated this app!" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:#"Maybe later" otherButtonTitles: #"Rate", nil];
[alert_View show];
}
self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]];
// Override point for customization after application launch.
self.viewController = [[ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"ViewController" bundle:nil];
self.window.rootViewController = self.viewController;
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
return YES;
}
You're storing this value into NSUserDefaults which doesn't get cleared when you rebuild the app. In order to reset this number you will have to uninstall the app from either the simulator or the device and rebuild.
The point of NSUserDefaults is that it is truly persistent. It will remain even if your application is updated from the app store, and the only two ways of clearing it's data are to specifically and deliberately remove the key you are referencing, or by deleting the app.
Additionally, as you can see below I've made a couple of slight tweaks for you:
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
{
if (![[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] integerForKey:#"numOfLCalls"]) {
[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setInteger:1 forKey:#"numOfLCalls"];
}else{
NSInteger i = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] integerForKey:#"numOfLCalls"];
[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setInteger:i++ forKey:#"numOfLCalls"];
}
if (i >= 3) {
UIAlertView *alert_View = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Hey! You are still coming back!" message:#"It would mean a whole lot to me if you rated this app!" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:#"Maybe later" otherButtonTitles: #"Rate", nil];
[alert_View show];
}
self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]];
// Override point for customization after application launch.
self.viewController = [[ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"ViewController" bundle:nil];
self.window.rootViewController = self.viewController;
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
return YES;
}
