Using arrayformula() like continue with nested if() - google-sheets

My goal is to fill down formula while data exist in an adjacent column.
Here is my original formula:
=index(lookups!$M$2:$M30,match($A3,lookups!$N$2:$N30,0))
This formula works in that results are returned as expected.
I then tried this in the hope of it copying down:
=index(lookups!$M$2:$M30,match($A3:A,lookups!$N$2:$N30,0))
This resulted in #N/A "Did not find value in match"
Then I read this post and looked at the second most voted answer and tried editing my formula to this:
=arrayFormula(index(lookups!$M$2:$M30,match($A3:A,lookups!$N$2:$N30,0)))
This time the formula copy down as I hoped, but with a #VALUE error "Function IF parameter 1 expects boolean values. But 'ADT- Alaska Travel Vendor Activities (Search)' is a text and cannot be coerced to a boolean."
How can I tell sheets to copy the index(Match()) all the way down while data exist in column A?

See if this formula delivers the desired output ?
=ARRAYFORMULA(iferror(vlookup(A3:A, {lookups!$B$2:$B, lookups!$A$2:$A}, 2, 0)))

Array formula is not working with the combination of Vlookup and Indirect-Match?

I am trying to generate an arrayformula for the whole column but it does not work, when I use the same formula cell by cell, it generates correct value. Here is the formula for F1 cell:
=if(Iferror(vlookup($D1, INDIRECT("$"&"A"&MATCH(E1,$B:$B,0)+1&":$B"),2,false),"")=E1,"",Iferror(vlookup($D1, INDIRECT("$"&"A"&MATCH(E1,$B:$B,0)+1&":$B"),2,false),""))
I am trying to convert it into ArrayFormula like this and put it in F1:
=ARRAYFORMULA(if(Iferror(vlookup($D:$D, INDIRECT("$"&"A"&MATCH($E:$E,$B:$B,0)+1&":$B"),2,false),"")=$E:$E,"",Iferror(vlookup($D:$D, INDIRECT("$"&"A"&MATCH($E:$E,$B:$B,0)+1&":$B"),2,false),"")))
But this does not work and returns empty column, here is the sheet if you want to test it, you can find formula in column F:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13XLZvvdzK_mqr4Ous50cIEfernw2XrPJWvVgt1hFxtk/edit?usp=sharing
Please share your knowledge how to go about it as I am trying to learn formulas starting from basic level? Thank you.
when working with more than one condition, you can usually use FILTER for it. In this case, I used MAP to refer to both columns D and E, and used FILTER to narrow to the matches in A column, and then to those values that were further than the row of the MATCH of E value. Then, with INDEX I chose the first value of that resulting range.
=MAP(D:D,E:E,LAMBDA(d,e,IFERROR(IF(d="","",INDEX(FILTER(B:B,A:A=d,ROW(B:B)>MATCH(e,B:B,0)),1)))))
Unclear of the full scope but from your expected result scenario(in Column F) you seem to be pulling off second match(if any). well in that case try:
=BYROW(D:D,LAMBDA(dx,IF(dx="",,IFNA(FILTER(ARRAY_CONSTRAIN(FILTER(B:B,A:A=dx),2,1),{0;1})))))

Troubleshooting formula with array - array arguments are of different size to EQ

In Google Sheets, I have a formula that displays the value of an item in a row if one of its cells contains any of the values listed in a different sheet. It looks like this:
=ARRAYFORMULA(IF(OR(L2 = ZRSKUs!$A$1:$Z$12005), O2, "0"))
If L2 contains any of the values in sheet ZRSKUs, this formula displays the value of the item, which is held in O2. If I drag the formula down it produces the value of every column and I can then get a SUM of this column. I wanted a way to do this without having to drag the formula down every single row (this spreadsheet has about 20,000 rows so it takes a long time to do). I also wanted the formula to add it up too, so it is all done in one cell.
I tried editing the formula to do this, and this is what I came up with:
=ARRAYFORMULA(SUM(IF(OR($L3:$L = ZRSKUs!$A$1:$A$500), $O3:$O, "0")))
However, this gives me an "Array arguments to EQ are of different size" error. I tried adjusting the number of rows in the ZRSKUs sheets so it had the exact same number as my other sheet, but this made no difference.
I'm not sure what's going wrong, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
You get the error because that is not a well-formed array formula, as $L3:$L and ZRSKUs!$A$1:$A$500 are not equal in length. We could rectify this by using another function for the lookup, in this case, MATCH:
=ARRAYFORMULA(SUM(IF(ISNA(MATCH($L$1:$L, ZRSKUs!$A$1:$A$500, 0)), 0, $O$1:$O)))

Check if data that satisfies multiple criteria exists in both sheet 1 and sheet 2

My table contains 2 sheets with a different number of columns. I want to add a column that will display true or false (or any other 2 opposite values ) for each row depending on whether this row satisfies 2 criteria which are: sheet1!col1=sheet2!col1 and sheet1!col2=sheet2!col2.
You'll find an illustration below.
I've tried using
ARRAYFORMULA(VLOOKUP(A1&B1, {Sheet1!A1:A4&Sheet1!B1:B4,Sheet1!C1}, 3))
but I get an error message
vlookup evaluates to an out of bound range
So I wanted to try
QUERY({Sheet1!A1:B4,A1:B5}, "Select C where ")
but I couldn't figure out how to write the condition where (sheet1)col1=(sheet2)col1 & (sheet1)col2=(sheet2)col2 and I also don't know if I can work with tables of different dimensions. I finally tried
=MATCH(A1&B1,{Sheet1!A1:A&Sheet1!B1:B})
but it always returns 1.
Any idea please?
Sheet 1
Sheet 2
Your first formula is almost right. You are getting the error message because there is only one column in the curly brackets so you have to change it to
=ArrayFormula(vlookup(A1&B1,{Sheet2!A:A&Sheet2!B:B},1,false))
and add the 'false' to make sure it only does exact matches.
To make the query work you need the right syntax to access cells in the current sheet:
=query(Sheet2!A:B," select A,B where A='"&A1&"' and B='"&B1&"'")
To make the match work, you need to enter it as an array formula and add a zero to specify exact match:
=ArrayFormula(MATCH(A1&B1,{Sheet2!A:A&Sheet2!B:B},0))
However I would take flak from my colleagues if I didn't point out that there is an issue with the vlookup and match as shown above - toto&moto would match with not just toto&moto, but also with tot&omoto etc. The way round this is to add a separator character e.g.
=ArrayFormula(vlookup(A1&"|"&B1,{Sheet2!A:A&"|"&Sheet2!B:B},1,false))
=ArrayFormula(MATCH(A1&"|"&B1,{Sheet2!A:A&"|"&Sheet2!B:B},0))
These still need some tidying up if they are to report Yes and No, and also not to give false positive on blank rows - also the vlookup and match can be written as self-expanding array formulas - but that is the short answer to the question.

Google Sheets formula that returns all values for which multiple criteria in other columns apply

My problem, generally stated:
I need a formula that returns all the values in a specific column for which multiple criteria in other columns of the respective row apply.
My problem, specifically stated:
I would like a formula that returns all the values in Column A for which Column C is "John", Column E is "Apples", Column G is "Earth" and both Columns H and I are empty. See here for a simplified illustration of my problem with dummy data. The correct formula, dragged down, would output a list with the values "1", "4", and "14". If you'd like to try out some stuff in the linked spreadsheet, feel free to do so in a copy of the original sheet so others can see my original data/formulas.
What I've tried so far:
Simply filtering was not an option because the data is on a separate sheet within the same spreadsheet. I also knew VLOOKUP and INDEX/MATCH were not going to do what I wanted - VLOOKUP doesn't handle multiple criteria, and while the MATCH part of INDEX/MATCH can be turned into an array to specify multiple criteria, it only returns the first value for which all conditions are true, while I need all of them.
I then tried the following formula (Formula 1 in the linked spreadsheet):
=IFERROR(INDEX($A$2:$I, SMALL(IF(COUNTIF($K$2, $C$2:$C)*COUNTIF($K$3, $E$2:$E)*COUNTIF($K$4, $G$2:$G), ROW($A$2:$I)-MIN(ROW($A$2:$I))+1), ROW(A1)), COLUMN(A1)),"")
It worked like a charm, until I wanted to include the condition that both columns H and I should be empty. I tried this, but for some reason I don't understand it didn't work (Formula 2 in the linked spreadsheet):
=IFERROR(INDEX($A$2:$I, SMALL(IF(COUNTIF($K$2, $C$2:$C)*COUNTIF($K$3, $E$2:$E)*COUNTIF($K$4, $G$2:$G)*COUNTIF($K$5, $H$2:$H)*COUNTIF($K$6, $I$2:$I), ROW($A$2:$I)-MIN(ROW($A$2:$I))+1), ROW(A1)), COLUMN(A1)),"")
Then I tried to nest my first formula into an IF/VLOOKUP (Formula 3 in the linked spreadsheet):
=IFERROR(IF(VLOOKUP(INDEX($A$2:$I, SMALL(IF(COUNTIF($K$2, $C$2:$C)*COUNTIF($K$3, $E$2:$E)*COUNTIF($K$4, $G$2:$G), ROW($A$2:$I)-MIN(ROW($A$2:$I))+1), ROW(A1)), COLUMN(A1)),$A$2:I,8,FALSE)<>"","",INDEX($A$2:$I, SMALL(IF(COUNTIF($K$2, $C$2:$C)*COUNTIF($K$3, $E$2:$E)*COUNTIF($K$4, $G$2:$G), ROW($A$2:$I)-MIN(ROW($A$2:$I))+1), ROW(A1)), COLUMN(A1))),"")
This worked if I only asked for column H to be empty, but a) it is very unwieldy, b) it gives you blanks in the list it returns, which I do not want, and c) I could not get it to work for the condition that both columns H and I need to be empty using OR.
That's where I'm stuck, and I haven't come up with a good solution. Knowing this forum, I'm sure someone has an elegant solution I was not smart enough to find :)
I'm on phone so formating will suffer.
Create a new column on the left and insert the following into cell A2
=if(D2="John", if(F2="Apples", if(H2="Earth", if(I2="", if(J2="", B2,""), "" ), "" ), "" ), "")

Google spreadsheet Multiple result with VLOOK UP

The VLOOKUP formulas which works individually are
=if(VLOOKUP(E2,DB!$C:$E,1,0)>0,"COMPLETED",)
=if(VLOOKUP(E2,DB!$F:$H,1,0)>0,"IN PROGRESS",)
The issue is while displaying both results in a single cell, the formula which I came up for this was
C2=if(AND(VLOOKUP(E4,DB!$C:$E,1,0)>0),"COMPLETED",if(VLOOKUP(E4,DB!$F:$H,1,0)>0,"IN PROGRESS","UNDEFINED"))
I have tested the formula with normal conditions other than VLOOKUP and it works without any issues, not sure what's wrong with it.
Example : C10=if(AND(E10=1),"ONE",if(E10=2,"TWO","NO DATA"))
Any help appreciated.
May be its something simple but I am pulling my hair out for the last 3 hours.
Thanks :)

Updated 03.05.2016
Sorry for the comments that I have posted as I am new at using Stack overflow.
I have tried with only IF statements without any AND conditions, but the result is still same. The VLOOKUP is not returning the second value.
C15=IF(VLOOKUP(E15,DB!$F:$H,1,0)>0,"COMPLETED",if(VLOOKUP(E15,DB!$F:$H,1,0)>0,"IN PROGRESS","UNDEFINED"))
What I am expecting in cell C2 (sheet1) is check the values in cell
E2 against the columns C:H ( Sheet 2/ DB). If it belongs to
Column C:C in (sheet2/DB) then the value in C2 (sheet1) should display
as "Completed" else if the value is in column F:F ( sheet2/DB) then in C2
(sheet1) should display "In Progress".

There are a few problems with your formula.
VLOOKUP and similar functions search within a single row or column, and it seems like you're looking for your value in multiple rows and columns.
As #Meta mentioned, VLOOKUP returns N/A when the value is not found in the range, and you are expecting a zero or less value to be returned (when you check for >0 in the IF statement). Note that VLOOKUP returns the cell value itself and not an index of a match (like the MATCH function).
My suggestion is to replace your VLOOKUPs with COUNTIF.
=IF(COUNTIF(DB!$F:$H,E2)>0,"COMPLETED",IF(COUNTIF(DB!$C:$D,E2)>0,"IN PROGRESS","UNDEFINED"))
COUNTIF counts in multiple rows and columns, and will return a zero if no matches are found.
