I've been trying to use the various Instruments provided in Xcode to check for memory leaks and some lag I get when using my Application.
However, despite looking at several tutorials. I keep getting an error every time I try to use Xcode. When starting the tests, I am greeted by a panel prompting me to pick an instrument.
After picking the Time Profiler, I hit Choose, and am immediately prompted by the following screen:
This usually isn't what I see in any of the tutorials. And it's also where the problem starts. No matter what I pick, or what Instrument I choose to import data with, I always get the following errors:
I was told I should reinstall Xcode. So after removing the Application, and reinstalling it, I tried again. Same error.
I've tried looking for solutions online as well. All I found was this similar SO Question
, which had no answer to it.
Does anyone know why this is occurring, and what I can do to resolve it?
This might work:
sudo chmod a+rwxt /Library/Caches/com.apple.dt.instruments
Open Terminal app from application.
Simply Copy & paste & then press Enter.
Exit Xcode, Then again launch the instruments with your testing app , this time it should load it then asking for selecting the templates from dialog box.
sudo chmod a+rwxt /Library/Caches/com.apple.dt.instruments

I've searched around and can't find anything on this.
Using Swift 2 and Xcode Version 7.0.1 (7A1001). Every time I execute something in the debugger console, Xcode crashes.
The project is not very big, and has less than 10 third party frameworks.
I can't think of much more information that's relevant, but I'm sure there's more, so please do ask me if there's anything I should add to my question that would help.
I've of course cleaned build and derived data.
It's driving me insane. Thanks!

How are you maintaining your third party frameworks? Via Carthage?
If so then this is probably your issue: https://github.com/Carthage/Carthage/issues/924
This is an issue if the location of the /Carthage/Build/iOS folder is in a different location to where it was produced (i.e if it was compiled on a different machine and the absolute file path has changed).
A temporary fix would be to run carthage build --no-use-binaries on your machine to rebuild the symbols using the current absolute file path working around the bug.
But if you wasn't using carthage then its probably not your issue so sorry
I had similar problem with Xcode whenever I hit breakpoint.
In case you see this screen right before your Xcode crashes - you are lucky and my fix might save you. All you need to do is open this window and in the Project Navigator, select any file that you want, so that instead of that white blank view you would get your code. After this you are most likely will be able to successfully stop your app at your breakpoint and perform the debug.
I am not sure why this happens, but I suspect that the reason is Debug View Hierarchy mode, which you might have triggered prior to setting you breakpoint and trying to stop at it. At least this is when it happens to me.
I have similar problem earlier.
If you try to print non-optional variable and unfortunately it holds nil value then it breaks/crash. so that make sure declare all possible variables as "Optional type".
I've recently made an app and could successfully run and test it until this suddenly happened,

It doesn't looks like an issue, but the "run" button is unavailable. Usually it should look something like,

As in the image, first there are two buttons, run and stop, after that there is the name of the program/app and its icon (fun facts) and then the iphone simulator it will run on (iphone 6). On the image on top, the failed to run program attempt, it is totally different, first the run button is disabled, second, the icon is a gear and not the app icon, and third, there is no simulator, it appears "my mac".
I don't know why this happened but this cannot let me run the app. I searched in the apple documentation and didn't found anything. If someone knows how to solve this please tell me.
The simplest solution is to rebuild your project from scratch. This is not difficult because you still have all your code. So, start with a new project from the iOS template. Copy your code from the old project into the new project.
And try to avoid renaming your project from now on, because there is a bug in some versions of Xcode where it crashes and destroys the project in just the way you describe in your question.
And update to the latest version of Xcode, because it is less likely to cause this problem (though in fact I have not found it reliable for renaming projects even now).
I have an older iOS6 app that I was playing with last year; it was only for my wife, so I never released it, but I wanted to dust it off and see if it was potentially useful to others. So I load it up in XCode5 (5.0.2 running on 10.8.4; I've also tried this on my home laptop running the same XCode and Mavericks). However, though the app builds and runs fine, none of my NSLog statements show up in the console, on either computer. I've cleaned, rebuilt, run it on every simulator and iPad I have, hunted through settings, torn my hair out, etc., but I can't figure out how to get them to show up. I started a new iOS app to make sure it's not something in my setup, but NSLogs from there work just fine. Unfortunately, I'm not even sure where to start looking to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas for directions that I should be exploring here? Thanks!
Edit: I just tried copying over the files into a new project, and now the NSLogs are showing up! Still leaves me with no ideas as to why they're not showing up in the old project.
Edit2: It's not just user error; I can see the log messages from the new project with the copied files (see image). They just don't show in the old project when I run it.
Maybe you're not opened a Console in XCode 5, it seems, you're trying see a logs in member console.
Try click at here and you will see console with "All Output" option:

I've been running into a problem with Apple Instruments (4.6, Xcode 4.6.2 on 10.8.3).
Normally when using the Time Profiler, I can look at my source and see the hotspots without any problems (same project).
This time I've been trying to use the "Counters" Template to sample my CPUs Performance Counter Events. It samples the events as it should and I also have the same time based profiling information as well, however when I try to step into my code to look at the hot spots, like I can do for the "Time Profiler", all I get is "Unavailable" where I used to have the source. No Assembly either.
The Project is built as:
Release build
Debugging information is on and not stripped
DWARF + dsym is used to store the profiling data.
As I said, its the same configuration that works for the time profiler.
I already tried to (pretty much all that's stated in here: Xcode 4 Instruments doesn't show source lines , except for doing -O0, debug performance is not of interest to me)
recompile
relocate the dysm file using "File -> Re-Symbolicate"
As soon as I plainly close Instruments, start another Profile from Xcode and choose the Time Profiler, it works, if I go back to the Performance Counters, it stops.
Is this the default behaviour? Should it be like this? Has anybody already managed to get it working, in the current Instruments version? Otherwise it might be worth to file a bug with Apple.

Try the Xcode 5.1 beta4. For me its fixed there: Counter works now.

I have a bit of a dilemma — no matter what I do, I cannot get Apple's Instruments.app to symbolicate any of the included instruments while I'm profiling on my devices (it works OK in the iOS Simulator).
I've tried just about everything I can think of, including:
Checking that I'm actually building a dSYM
Switching between Debug and Release build schemes
Making sure that the signing certificate being used in my Development cert
Adding and removing my Derived Data folder from Spotlight's Privacy list
Clean & Build before profiling
Removing the Derived Data folder before building and profiling
I'm not sure where to go from here — I had symbols for an hour or two earlier in the week, but I just can't get them to show up at all anymore. It would be great to figure out what the mystical incantation is to make Instruments always find my app's symbols.
In the File menu there is an option for Re-Symbolicate Document. Choosing this, you can find your binary in the list and use the Locate button to specify the location of the dSYM manually. There is also a checkbox here for using Spotlight to find the dSYM; it's possible it got deactivated if Spotlight was borked at some point but is now fixed.
It seems that you cannot do this while Instruments is actually instrumenting, but it does seem to keep the setting for the next time you hit Record. It does not, however, seem to remember the setting after you close Instruments.
Did you ensure you are signing the app with a development profile (as opposed to a distribution profile)?
Be aware that you are usually using release builds with instruments so make sure you didn't choose a distribution profile for your release configuration...
I've seen Instruments 4.2 fail to symbolicate several times with the correct dSYM file.
After saving and quit/restart Instruments, it will then symbolicate.
(Sometimes I'll capture a small sample and make sure it works before collecting large samples.)
