I am fairly new to iOS development, and have a project in mind that would benefit from a third-party calendar interface. However, I'm having trouble just getting started. Feeling a little disappointed as well because I have searched high and low and it seems everyone is capable of integrating Kal Calendar itself, and that is where I am stuck.
I have downloaded the .zip source here and am trying to follow the steps. The first three are as follows:
Clone the Kal git repository: git clone git://github.com/klazuka/Kal.git. Make sure you store the repository in a permanent place because Xcode will need to reference the files every time you compile your project.
Locate the "Kal.xcodeproj" file under Kal/src/. Drag Kal.xcodeproj and drop it onto the root of your Xcode project's "Groups and Files" sidebar. A dialog will appear -- make sure "Copy items" is unchecked and "Reference Type" is "Relative to Project" before clicking "Add".
Now you need to link the Kal static library to your project. Select the Kal.xcodeproj file that you just added to the sidebar. Under the "Details" table, you will see libKal.a. Check the checkbox on the far right for this file. This will tell Xcode to link against Kal when building your app.
I have dragged the Kal.xcodeproj file from Finder into the root of my project in the Project Navigator as seen in this image:
Is this the correct place to drop the Kal.xcodeproj file? I was not presented with a dialog upon doing so. What is the "Groups and Files" sidebar? Upon selecting the Kal.xcodeproj file from where I have placed it, I cannot find a "Details" table where a libKal.a file is located.
Again, my apologies as I am fairly new to iOS dev, and I completely understand that these could be the most amateur questions out there. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Just looking for some help getting started so I can finally begin my project.
By the way, I'm using Xcode 6.
Thanks in advance!

Before Xcode 11.4 I built project and I also could found xxx.framework in the path of xxx/Build/Products/Debug-iphoneos.
After using Xcode 11.4, I can't found any xxx.framework in that path.
I have seen the link, How to archive/export Framework in Xcode? I follow the step to get the framework but Xcode 11.4 doesn't.
Does anybody know how to get the framework by using Xcode 11.4?
Here's two methods.
Method 1 (The method you say is not working for you but most popular):
Clean your framework (Not necessary but good practice)
Shift + Command + K or Product > Clean Build Folder (Some ask: where is this Product. Just hover your mouse at the top of the screen whilst in Xcode, you'll see it there.)
Build your framework
Command + B or Product > Build
Export/Extract/Copy your framework
On the left panel of Xcode (Where you see all your folders and swift files), expand the folder that's named Products (tap on the little white arrow next to the folder Products to expand it and see its contents.)
Once you expanded the Products folder, you should see a very good looking framework staring right at you. The name should look something like this YourProjectName.framework
Now to finally answer your question - HOW TO EXPORT THE FRAMEWORK...well right click on the framework (the YourProjectName.framework) and click on Show in Finder.
Once you clicked on Show in Finder, you'll see your YourProjectName.framework folder. Yes yes, it looks like a normal folder. That's because it is. Everyone just makes it sound fancy.
And there you go. You can then just drag that fancy-ish YourProjectName.framework folder into you project.
Method 2 (Here I'll assume you already read method 1 so I'll explain with less detail):
Clean your framework (Not necessary but good practice)
Archive your framework
Product > Archive (Don't be surprised if you wait a couple of seconds for it to archive.)
Once it's done archiving. You'll see it opens a new Xcode like window. If you don't see this window, it means you were busy with other stuff on your mac at the time it finished. Don't worry haha, just look around on your mac until you find it. If you still don't find it, chances are the archiving failed. If it failed, Xcode will give you an error log. Read it, fix it, try archiving again.
Once it finished archiving and you see the Xcode-like window. Your archive will be highlighted. It just shows its selected.
Export/Extract/Copy your framework
Right click on the archive and say Show in Finder
The finder will open and have your archive selected.
Right click on that archive and select Show Package Contents
The finder will open your archives contents.
Navigate to your framework which is located under Products > Library > Frameworks
There you'll find your YourProjectName.framework folder. select that folder and drag it into your project.
If none of the above methods worked for you, I guess it opens the opportunity for you to find another way. When you do, come back to this answer and add your method so we all can learn.
I have an iPhone app that needs to be physically cleaned to prevent the following build error:
This is what I have in the Navigator:
And this is what I have in the Localization section of Build Settings:
It works, but I'm not sure this ever worked the way it was supposed to; it was written several (like 4) years ago. Now, I am trying to clean it up so I can convert it to a universal app (first I need to make sure it works as designed before making any drastic changes.)
Can someone please point me in the right direction for cleaning this up? (I.e. what files to delete, or ?)
Here is what probably happen in that project:
This xx.lproj file is a legacy. You should be able to find it in Finder but not in a Project Navigator. Like this:
This is only the internal structure of xcode so just remove references from project navigator for all this ``xx.lproj` groups without removing files from project and you'll be fine.
If the app stop building you may need to re-add this files to your target, to do this just select a "parent" storyboard and go to "File Inspector" (first tab on Utilities panel) and select desired target.
The given version is described here: How do I rename a project in Xcode 5?
But, as you can see from the following screenshot^, not everything gets renamed, and if one opens package contents, directory names etc. to try to manually change all the references, the project is broken afterwards, so you have to keep the old project name for sub directories etc., which granted is not a massive problem, but is intensely irritating, and I'm not enjoying being intensely irritated at work.
^ apologies for a screenshot, but there's too much information in it to transcribe to written text. Top two-thirds of screenshot is XCode project, bottom third a Finder window.
Renaming projects in xcode in one of the most annoying things in iOS development. I assume you want to rename your app. I faced this problem once and figured out a simple, clean way to do it.
Go back to the point where everything worked.
Open project in xcode and click on the project icon in the project structure( first file)
Go to the info tab
Search for Bundle Name. Most probably it will automatically be set to $(PRODUCT_NAME) which is a shell variable that will set your app name the same as the project name.
Set it to whatever you want your app name to be
Done
Notes :
If you use custom URL Schemes this might produce an error when redirecting.
ALWAYS git or some other SVN in your projects. This will come in handy in this kind of situations
I am working on a Unity3d game for iOS which uses the Helpshift plugin for customer support.
Unity version : 4.6.4p1.
Xcode version : 6.1.1
The problem is that the popup for the plugin appears without any buttons.
But this gets fixed if one selects the .strings file on the plugin and click on the localize button. It then places the files in the lproj folder of that language.
But the localize functionality is surely doing more than just putting it in the correct folder, as even if you put it in the folder before hand the problem persists.
One can also see that after pressing the localize button, the number of files localized in the info panel of the project in Xcode increases by one.
I cannot have this setup as the build is automated, one cannot have any manual steps in the process as it will completely break the work flow.
Do let me know if you have any leads, if not the complete solution.
You are correct, clicking the localize button does do more than just put a strings file in a folder. That is the main part, but it will also wire that folder and file up into the project as a resource that gets included during the build process and will likely add some reference in the storyboard as well.

Does anyone know how to set up the XMPPFramework for iphone?
I can't seem to figure this out despite the wikis, and the wikis look out of date.
My project compiles fine, but once I actually try to reference any of the framework's classes, I get a no such file or directory error when trying to build the project.
I have no idea what is wrong despite using a bare bones project to reduce any sources of error. I'm using Xcode 4.2
Appreciate any pointers.
Thanks!
Make sure that you DID NOT just drag and drop the XMPPFramework files into your project. Notice in the XMPPFramework wiki is says to copy the files into your project folder, and then add the files into your project. So, if your XCode project is called XMPPTest, there will be an XMPPTest folder wherever you created your project, as in /Users/johndoe/XMPPTest. Taking step 2 for example, you need to press the "option" key and drag the folder titled "CocoaLumberjack" into /Users/johndoe/XMPPTest. THEN you can drag the "CocoaLumberjack" folder inside /Users/johndoe/XMPPTest into your actual XCode project. When you do, you should be sure to check the box "Copy items into destination's group folder (if needed) and select the radio button "Create folder references for any added folders". You should make sure that the checkboxes inside the "Add to targets" box are checked.
There is no XMPPH.h file in XMPPFramework. You should include XMPP.h instead
