I am looking for an open source web analytic for my Rails 4.2 app, so after some research I found that piwik fit my needs. can I use "piwik" with postgresql ? it seems that they only support mysql but I am not sure if it still true at this moment!
also I've found a post about how to integrate it within Rails here but they use piwik_analytics which is a Gem for Ruby on Rails 3.x and may not work with 4.2 !
All the information I've found are a little outdated and I am not sure if there is a way to make it work with my current requirements. any help please ?
Piwik supports only MySQL, that's true
You don't need any gem because Piwik just needs to load some Javascript that needs to be embedded into your layout/views. The Rails app doesn't directly interact with it, only your visitors' browser. Which also means that it shouldn't matter whether it supports Postgres because it will most likely run on another machine as your Rails app.

Regarding the gem you mentioned: I looked at it, too, when adding Piwik analytics to my app, but in the end went with writing the few required lines of JS myself.

The prerequisites from the README say "React on Rails supports older versions of Rails back to 3.x" so I was led to believe it could. But then during the install process I see I have to install webpacker. And there's the note "Rails/webpacker requires version 4.2+."
So I'm currently stalled out and wondering if this really does support Rails 3.x or if I misunderstood the documentation.
Is there a way to integrate React on Rails into an existing Rails 3.x app?

"React on Rails should not require rails/webpacker.
Just use the asset pipeline."
I guess I misunderstood that rails/webpacker was a hard dependency. Trying again now to get react_on_rails working without it. I'll mark this as the accepted answer, at least for now.
I know there are easy ways to get AngularJS working as the front end of a Ruby on Rails application such as the angularjs-rails gem, but I haven't been able to do the same thing with Angular 2. I know I could just make 2 different applications and just have them work together, but I'd rather have them in 1 app so I can just start the one app and it'll all run and do all the testing in one app at one time.

It is an example of integration without npm, but if you want to use npm you may still find a few interesting clues.
I am relatively new to web dev and I am trying to set up the ruby on rails gem ga_events (https://github.com/Nix-wie-weg/ga_events). I am doing this because I need to have google analytics event tracking within controllers and this gem seems like a good way to do it. The issue I am having is where the readme says, "After requiring ga_events.js, you have to choose an adapter." I am using Google Universal Analytics and thus I would like to choose that one. It doesn't say specifically how to do this. Where do I put that code block (https://github.com/Nix-wie-weg/ga_events#google-universal-analytics-analyticsjs)? Do I need to make a new file somewhere?
I'm assuming it's obvious for a more experienced developer. More detailed instructions+explanation would be really helpful. Thanks.

I put mine under application.js since it's a code that need to be on every page.
I have a site built on top of Rails. In essence, I want to release a lightweight version of it for the appstore, and I think Phonegap is a good solution w/o writing a full iOS application.
What would be the easiest way to get something like this out of the door? I'm new to PhoneGap and would love if an experience dev could shed some light on how with is done. I feel it would also be a valuable resource for many other Rails devs.
My rails 3 app uses devise for authenication, carrierwave for file processing, amazon S3 for storage, and Heroku for hosting. Can someone give me some basic insight into how all these components are wrapped up and ablwe to be used with PhoneGap?

The gem exports assets, fixes paths etc. to allow seamless export of single page apps based on a rails backend.

This is an important difference in most approaches as most will re-develop their front end using a client side framework and it has the potential to save users a bunch of time. The downside is that I've heard rumors you can't get into the iOS app store, but it doesn't seem like they had a problem with it. There's also services like GoNative.io that will wrap your app for you.

Using Phonegap as a native container for a Rails 3 App
Since I am developing a "secure" OAuth protocol for my RoR3 apps, I need to send protected information over the internet, so I need to use HTTPS connections (SSL/TSL). I read How to Cure Net::HTTP’s Risky Default HTTPS Behavior aticle that mentions the 'always_verify_ssl_certificates' gem, but, since I want to be more "pure" (it means: I do not want to install other gems, but I try to do everything with Ruby on Rails) as possible, I want to do that work without installing new gems.
I read about 'open_uri' (it is also mentioned in the linked article: "open_uri is a common exception - it gets things right!") that is from the Ruby OOPL and I think it can do the same work.
So, for my needs, is 'open_uri' the best choice (although it is more complicated of 'always_verify_ssl_certificates' gem)? If so, can someone help me using that (with an example, if possible) because I have not found good guides about?
You should find the best tool for the job and use it. You should not try to limit your usage of libraries to just Rails and the Ruby standard library, because these two alone will not always provide you with everything you need. As you have indicated, you found the right tool for the job - don't reject it just because it's not part of "official" Ruby or Rails.
You can easily manage which gems your application needs with Bundler, such that everyone on the team is, with a single command, always able to install and run the application, including automatically installing all gem dependencies. Rails 3, by default, integrates with Bundler and expects that you will use Bundler to manage all your gem dependencies.
